Acquired Bracket Pellicle Modulation Via Exposure To Histatin 3, Niklas W. Neilson

Objectives: To investigate the effect of histatin 3 on the protein pellicle formation on the orthodontic bracket surface.

Methods: Our study consisted of 4 sample groups. A sample of human parotid saliva without histatin functioned as a control group. Other groups were immersed with or without histatin 3 and human parotid saliva. Each group was incubated for 2 hours in their respective substrate at 37°C. The acquired pellicle from each group was harvested, then analyzed with SDS-PAGE and LC-ESI-MS/MS.

Results: Thirty-nine proteins were identified in the control group, 18 were identified in group 2, and 21 were identified in group …

Periodontal disease damages tissues as a result of dysregulated host responses against the chronic bacterial biofilm insult and approximately 50% of US adults > 30 years old exhibit periodontitis. The association of five blood nutrients and periodontitis were evaluated due to our previous findings regarding a potential protective effect for these nutrients in periodontal disease derived from the US population sampled as part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999–2004). Data from over 15,000 subjects was analyzed for blood levels of cis-β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, folate, vitamin D, and vitamin E, linked with analysis of the presence and severity of periodontitis. …

The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effects of Class II correctors and functional appliances on the dentoalveolar support of the mandibular incisors during orthodontic treatment. Twenty six patients who were treated with a ForsusTM, Herbst, or MARA participated this study. Lateral cephalometric radiographs, limited field-of-view CBCTs, and periodontal measurements were collected both the day of appliance activation and day of appliance deactivation. Ten hard tissue measurements on all four mandibular incisors were collected at each time point on CBCT images. Purpose: The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the immediate and long-term effects of palatal expansion on the transverse dimension of the nasomaxillary complex.

Materials and Methods: Twenty-eight patients’ CBCTs were obtained at four time points: pre-expansion (T1), post-expansion (T2), pre-treatment (T3), and middle or end of orthodontic treatment (T4). The study explores Ego Stroking Sandwich feedback and Non-Sandwich feedback as the feedback types and Instructors feedback vs. Scoring guide feedback as the feedback delivery method. Periodontitis is initiated by periodontal pathogens and caused by excessive or prolonged host mediated inflammation. Porphyromonas gingivalisis one important agent implicated in the etiopathogenesis of chronic periodontitis. Pro-inflammatory cytokines induced by periodontal pathogens can cause alveolar bone loss and periodontitis. Bone loss is caused by the imbalance of bone formation and bone resorption. A recent study demonstrated an association between the Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg)infection and the progression of ESCC (Gao et al., 2016). However, how Pg infection affects the nature of ESCC remains unknown. We examined the effects of Pg on the proliferation and chemotherapy drug-induced apoptosis of ESCC cells and elucidated the signaling molecules involved in these processes. Periodontal disease is one of the most prevalent infectious diseases worldwide. Between 30-50% of the global adult population suffers from periodontal disease. Some form of periodontitis is present in 46% of American adults, corresponding to annual expenditures in excess of 14 billion dollars for treatment and prevention. Current treatments for periodontal diseases involve mechanical removal of plaque, correction of risk factors, gingival surgery and/or antibiotic therapy. A 51-year-old white female presented with a painful ulcer of the left ventrolateral tongue. An incisional biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of adenosquamous carcinoma. The adenosquamous carcinoma is an uncommon malignant tumor with histopathological features of a squamous carcinoma and an adenocarcinoma. A definitive diagnosis requires histopathological examination of a deep biopsy involving the submucosal tissue. This malignant tumor shows aggressive behavior with early invasive growth and a poor prognosis. The histopathological findings and differential diagnosis of a case of adenosquamous carcinoma of the tongue are discussed.

Introduction: Patients undergoing orthodontic clear aligner therapy (CAT) may experience discomfort in their teeth and jaws, and often present with visible wear on their aligners. This multi-site prospective clinical study aimed to analyze tooth pain and masticatory muscle tenderness in patients subjected to CAT with Invisalign©.

Methods: Twenty-seven healthy adults undergoing treatment with Invisalign© were recruited from three university-based orthodontic clinics. Tooth pain and muscle tenderness were reported on visual analog scales in pain diaries prior to, and after starting CAT. Objectives
Odontogenic abscesses are one of the most common dental diseases causing maxillofacial skeletal lesions. They affect the individual's ability to maintain the dental structures necessary to obtain adequate nutrition for survival and reproduction. In this study, the prevalence and pattern of odontogenic abscesses in relation to age, sex, matriline, and living periods were investigated in adult rhesus macaque skeletons of the free-ranging colony on Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico.

Recently, studies have explored how biologically active compounds in wine benefit human teeth. Dietary polyphenols, in particular wine polyphenols, seem to balance the composition of the oral microbiota, thus leading to potentially more effective anti-carious effects on the individual. Recent research has discussed the main action mechanisms of polyphenols against oral microbial diseases and highlighted the antiadhesive capacity of caffeic and p-coumaric acids as well as grape seed and red wine extracts. Impending Total Airway Collapse Involving A Maxillary Removable Partial Denture: A Clinical Report, Georgios Maroulakos, Stylianos Voulgarelis

This article presents a rare incident of a bilateral maxillary removable partial denture as an airway foreign body. The removable partial denture and the surrounding soft tissue irritation caused partial obstruction of the airway. Impending airway collapse was avoided after successful removal of the foreign body. Removing a removable dental prostheses at night, not only to prevent soft tissue pathology but also to avoid ingestion or aspiration of the prosthesis, must be emphasized.

BACKGROUD: Leptospira interrogans is the major causative agent of leptospirosis, a worldwide zoonotic disease. Hemorrhage is a typical pathological feature of leptospirosis. Binding of von Willebrand factor (vWF) to platelet glycoprotein-Ibα (GPIbα) is a crucial step in initiation of platelet aggregation. The products of L. interrogans vwa-I and vwa-II genes contain vWF-A domains, but their ability to induce hemorrhage has not been determined.

Myofascial pain is considered a type of muscular TMD, being common in patients with musculoskeletal pain associated with active or latent trigger points. Despite the fact that the advances in surgical techniques have contributed to the reduction in the number of complications associated with orthognathic surgery, problems resulting from different phases of treatment, treatment planning, and postoperative period may occur. This paper presents a case of facial soft tissue lesion, burn in the lower lip region, in a patient with Class III malocclusion during orthognathic surgery.
