Background
To develop a no-code artificial intelligence (AI) model for the detection of apical radiolucent lesions and to assess how lesion location influences the model’s diagnostic performance.
Methods
312 periapical radiographs were retrospectively collected, each accompanied by a corresponding cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan obtained within six months and a radiology report authored by board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologists. These reports served as the reference standard, and all findings were cross-verified by the primary investigator through CBCT review. Objective: The purpose of this randomized clinical trial is to investigate the effects of preemptive analgesia on postoperative pain following extraction and ridge preservation and to evaluate the association between dental care-related fear and anxiety, health literacy, fear of pain, and pain catastrophizing with post-operative pain and swelling perception as well as Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14). Methods: This 22-year-retrospective cohort study utilized electronic health records from the Marquette University School of Dentistry (MUSoD) axiUm database, analyzing 11,002 teeth treated between 2004 and 2026. To evaluate the long-term effect of ammonia- and water-based silver fluoride treatments on the degradation of the dentin collagen matrix.
Methods
Dentin beams (0.3x3x7mm) were demineralized (10 % H3PO4), rinsed and randomly distributed into six groups. This study aims to investigate the trans-dentinal and direct cell viability of ammonia- and water-based silver fluoride treatments. Deep dentin discs were prepared, balanced for permeability and autoclaved. Three-dimensional cultures of odontoblast-like cells were transferred to the pulpal aspect of the dentin slices inside perfusion split chambers designed for dentin-barrier cytotoxicity test, following ISO 7405. Objective
To explore the structure-activity relationships of plant-based proanthocyanidins (PACs) with dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and the long-term biomechanical stability of PAC-modified dentin extracellular matrix (ECM).
Methods
Mid-coronal dentin ECM (n= 8) was treated with eight PAC tetramers and trimers with varying A-/B-type linkages. Chemo-mechanical analyses included dynamic mechanical analysis and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. Viscoelastic components were calculated after PAC biomodification, 18-month incubation, and protein destabilization. Collagen structure was assessed via IR amide absorbance ratios. Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in dental research for diagnosis, treatment planning, and disease prediction. However, many dental AI studies lack methodological rigor, transparency, or reproducibility, and no dedicated peer-review guidance exists for this field.
Methods
Editors and reviewers from the ITU/WHO/WIPO AI for Health – Dentistrygroup participated in a structured survey and group discussions to identify key elements for reviewing AI dental research. A draft of the recommendations was circulated for feedback and consensus.

The yellowing effect of camphorquinone (CQ) has led manufacturers to add alternative initiators into resin composites (RCs) to reduce the amount of CQ used. The aim of this study was to investigate the color change in commercial RCs with alternative photoinitiators besides CQ. Color change upon polymerization and aging in air and artificial saliva for up to 3 months was tested for seven commercial RCs (traditional and bulk-fill) with either CQ only or CQ and additional photoinitiators (CQ+). Objective
This systematic review aimed to answer the question: In patients undergoing periodontal and peri-implant surgery, gingival augmentation, implant site development or placement, are pre-emptive analgesics effective in controlling post-operative pain compared with patients not receiving pre-emptive medications?
Materials and Methods
After comprehensive electronic and manual literature searches, randomised placebo-controlled clinical trials on adults undergoing the aforementioned surgeries were included. A meta-analysis was performed comparing pain (standardised mean difference) between pre-emptive medication and placebo at post-operative hours 1, 3, 6, 8, 24 and 72.

Introduction: This study evaluated and compared orthodontic forces from different archwire designs and materials used to correct a deep curve of Spee. Methods: A three-dimensional orthodontic force tester (OFT) was used to measure forces and moments exerted by archwires on brackets from central incisors to first molars. Two setups were tested: one with a full dentition from central incisor to first molar, and another simulating bicuspid extractions with the first premolar removed. Dentoform models representing a deep curve of Spee were created using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data. This study aimed to compare the quality and readability of the responses generated by 3 publicly available artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in answering frequently asked questions (FAQs) related to Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (OMR) to assess their suitability for patient education.
Study Design
Fifteen OMR-related questions were selected from professional patient information websites. These questions were posed to ChatGPT-3.5 by OpenAI, Gemini 1.5 Pro by Google, and Copilot by Microsoft to generate responses. Aim
Academic integrity is crucial in dental education, especially during practical exams assessing competencies. Traditional oversight may not detect sophisticated academic dishonesty methods like radiograph substitution or tampering. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a novel artificial intelligence (AI) model utilizing a Siamese neural network to detect inconsistencies in radiographic images taken for root canal treatment (RCT) procedures in preclinical endodontic courses, thereby enhancing educational integrity.
Methododology

Periodontal diseases, a group of complex conditions marked by an excessive immune response and periodontal tissue destruction, are a global health concern. Since 1990, the incidence of these diseases has doubled, with Western sub-Saharan Africa experiencing the highest burden. Accurate diagnosis and case identification are crucial for understanding the etiology, features of disease, research, treatment and prevention. Modern perspectives on periodontal disease classification are based on commonality among those affected. However, current literature is often plagued by methodological inconsistencies and focused on disease mechanisms in European populations. Objective: Hand-wrist (HW) radiographs are considered the most accurate method for assessing pubertal growth spurts in orthodontics but have declined in use due to added radiation exposure and the expertise required. Cervical vertebral maturation staging (CVMS) is now commonly used, given the routine availability of lateral cephalograms. However, the validity of CVMS remains uncertain. A recent study reported only 66% inter-observer reliability across time periods (Ingersoll, 2024). This follow-up study aims to evaluate CVMS as a predictor of growth to guide clinical decision-making. Introduction
This study aimed to evaluate the short-term and long-term skeletal and dental asymmetry with miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE), rapid palatal expansion (RPE), and control group using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis.
Methods
A total of 180 CBCT scans were analyzed for 60 patients divided into 3 groups: MARPE (mean age 13.7 ± 1.74 years), RPE (mean age 13.9 ± 1.14 years), and control (mean age 13.3 ± 1.49 years). Objectives
Although pre-treatment parameters for subtractive computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) materials have been thoroughly investigated, data regarding additive restorative materials designed for permanent use in the oral cavity are scarce. This study investigated the effects of abrasive materials and blasting pressure on the bond strength of 3D-printed resins used in permanent restorations.
Methods
A total of n = 44 test specimens additively manufactured from Formlabs’ `Permanent Crown Resin' were prepared. Three groups with n = 11 specimens were airborne-particle abraded with 50 µm aluminium oxide at 1 bar, 2 bar or 3 bar. The control group did not receive any …
