It was shown that it can be prevented by supplementation of folic acid. However, much more needs to be known about etiopathogenetic factors and molecular mechanisms leading to NSCLP in order to personalize its prevention. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify studies that compared different post systems in endodontically treated teeth. The inclusion criteria included studies comparing two or more post-systems regarding clinical and/or radiographic outcomes. The studies included in the review evaluated different types of post systems, including prefabricated metal posts, custom-made metal posts, fibre-reinforced posts, and zirconia posts. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been suggested to replicate and be found in the oral cavity. The objective of this preliminary literature review is to determine the effects of cigarette smoke on the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the oral cavity, and the risk for the overall health. SARS-CoV-2, which causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), uses the ACE2 receptor and protease TMPRSS2 for entry into host cells. The cigarette smoke condensates upregulates these receptors in human gingival epithelial cells. Because smoking can alter expression of COVID-19 viral entry genes, smokers are more susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Several …

The oral cavity is under high immune surveillance because of its constant exposure to microbes in the environment. The primary immune cell responsible for this surveillance is the neutrophil. Pathogens associated with periodontitis possess virulence factors and have evolved strategies to evade neutrophil antimicrobial responses to survive. This study is methods-focused, centering around molar crown macrowear and its performance as a proxy for age in a sample of pedigreed, non-human primates. It analyzes the correlation between age-structured variables and molar wear among both males and females in a captive group of baboons. Here, I examined whether wear is significantly correlated with age-related variables (i.e., generations/cohorts) and whether the structure of the “age” dataset differed across wear categories. Because chronological age is unknown, I used documented pedigrees and parent-offspring relationships to group individuals into possible generations. Indirect pulp caps (IPCs) and pulpotomies are forms of vital pulp therapy. These procedures are performed on young patients who have deep cavities due to bacterial biofilm damage; however, the two are performed and utilized differently. The less severe of the two procedures is an IPC. This is when decayed dentin is covered with biocompatible material to avoid pulp exposure. The more severe procedure, the pulpotomy, is when the inflamed coronal pulp tissue is removed either partially or fully to save any remaining pulp tissue. Aims and Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether periodontal disease (PD) moderates the association between complex multimorbidity (MM) and fair/poor general health in a US representative sample of older individuals. Materials and Methods: This study identified 937 participants who were at least 60 years of age from the 2013-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to estimate the association between complex MM (including chronic conditions, functional limitations, and geriatric syndromes) and self-reported fair/poor general health. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the root anatomy of the maxillary and mandibular premolars among a sample of the Lebanese population and to explore their incidence by sex and the symmetry between the left and right sides.

Materials and Methods: This retrospective analysis of 250 cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans consisted of 960 maxillary and 972 mandibular premolars. Roots, canals, and morphology types were recorded. Vertucci’s classification was used to categorize the canal morphologies. Fisher’s exact and chi-square tests were applied (P≤.05).

Leukemia is the most prevalent malignancy of leukocytes and can occur in children and adults. Oral manifestations are part of the complexity of signs and symptoms in patients with leukemia and, in some patients, oral manifestations precede systemic manifestations. Oral signs of leukemia include spontaneous bleeding, gingival enlargement, and whiteness of the oral mucosa. Head and neck lymphadenopathy is common in patients with leukemia. Objective: the assessment of distal cantilever length in implant supported prothesis (Hybrid prosthesis) by comparing the load to fracture in two different esthetic framework materials (Zirconia and Polyetheretherketone (PEEK)) with two different cantilevers loading distances (10mm, 15mm).

During endodontic treatment in multi-rooted teeth, furcation perforation refers to an opening in the pulpal floor, leading to a communication with the periodontal ligament space. A three-dimensional hermetic seal, with a biocompatible material, is a key point for the success of pulp floor perforation repair. MTA® has been considered, for a long time, as a gold standard in furcation perforation repair. Besides, BiodentineTM, when used for the same purpose, showed considerable performance and good results.
