The 2023 MDA Annual Session was a successful event, with over 2,600 dental professionals attending in downtown Grand Rapids. Highlights included engaging keynote addresses, informative CE courses, a bustling exhibit hall, and various social events. The MDA Foundation's Sparkling Smiles Celebration raised funds to support dental scholarships and improve access to care. The event provided valuable networking opportunities and resources for attendees.

Many advanced cancer models, such as patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), offer significant benefits in their preservation of the native tumor's heterogeneity and susceptibility to treatments, but face significant barriers to use in their reliance on a rodent host for propagation and screening. PDXs remain difficult to implement in vitro, particularly in configurations that enable both detailed cellular analysis and high-throughput screening (HTS). Complex multilineage co-cultures with stromal fibroblasts, endothelium, and other cellular and structural components of the tumor microenvironment (TME) further complicate ex vivo implementation. The North Dakota Department of Health (DoH)a Oral Health Program (OHP)b has established a school-based dental sealant program, (SEAL!ND)c , which has been providing dental sealants, fluoride varnish applications, oral health education and dental screenings and referrals for students throughout North Dakota dating back to 2012. All services occur in the school during school hours. School-based sealant programs are a highly effective way to deliver preventive oral health services and dental sealants to children less likely to receive private dental care. Background: American Indian (AI), Alaska Native (AN), and Native Hawaiian (NH) populations report higher rates of diabetes, poorer oral health, and fewer dental visits than their peers. The authors aimed to identify relationships between oral health and dental visits and diabetes diagnosis among AI, AN, and NH elders. Methods: Data were obtained from a national survey of AI, AN, and NH elders 55 years and older (April 2014-2017) and included 16,136 respondents. My goal is to determine an accurate age at death estimation of an ancient Maya population from the archaeological site of Actuncan, Belize. This was done by measuring the lengths of the coronal pulp cavities in the individuals’ teeth. I used X-Ray images to measure the coronal pulp cavities of the teeth and estimated age using multiple regression formulae for premolars, molars, and incisors to make age estimations. Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine operator’s best position when doing interproximal reduction. Also, to determine if these positions are ergonomically recommended.

Materials and methods: 54 sets of upper and lower models were scanned and 3D-printed. Air-rotor stripping was performed at different provider positions. Vertical and horizontal deviations were measured, and errors were recorded.

Results: In LA, there was no statistically significant difference between vertical deviations in P7 and 11, however, they were both superior to P9. In LL, P11 leads to significantly lower vertical deviation than P7 and 9. In LR, P9 and 11 were superior …

Fixed prosthodontics requires accurate impressions to record the finish lines, which is instrumental for the success of a single crown or fixed dental prosthesis. If the finish line is adjacent to or below the gingival margin, an adequate amount of gingival retraction is necessary to capture the impression that will help the lab in delivering a therapeutic, preventive, and esthetically stable restoration. This review discusses the different gingival retractions methods to achieve maximum hemostasis and retraction for successful indirect restorations.

The purpose of this study is to compare the shear-bond strength of a chemically-cured bulk composite and a light-cured bulk composite. The chemically-cured bulk composite was delivered at room temperature. The light-cured composite was delivered at room temperature and at 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Tooth movement is caused by the application of force. In short, applied force strains structures present in the PDL space – cells, ligaments, blood vessels. Cells in the PDL are damaged by extension and by diminished oxygen supply due to compression of blood vessels. Compounds released from damaged or dead cells trigger an innate inflammatory response. One of the biomarkers of that response is increased formation of extracellular fluid (edema), specifically gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). Our goal is to monitor changes of GCF flow during the orthodontic treatment with Invisalign.

Invasive cervical resorption (ECR) is a complex form of external resorption. It is distinguished by its localization, its invasive nature, and the formation of a mineralized replacement tissue resembling cellular cementum. During initiation of ECR, the portal of entry is the cementum below the gingival epithelium, and resorption starts with localized destruction and removal of PDL. Response to PDL injury includes formation of a blood clot and inflammation, followed by granulation tissue, recruitment of macrophages, and multinucleated-cell differentiation.
