Negative pressure wound therapy provides a nonsurgical treatment option for many types of complex wounds. This therapy utilizes the vacuum-assisted closure device, which decreases air pressure, removes fluid that accumulates within the wound, and aids to facilitate changes that promote healing. Managing patients with a history of intravenous bisphosphonates and antiresorptive medications poses challenges in clinical decision-making. Extractions are generally discouraged in these patients due to the risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). This case study presents an 89-year-old female with metastatic breast cancer on Xgeva, facing a non-restorable tooth (#30). A collaborative approach involving the general dentist, endodontist, and oral surgeon employed endodontic therapy, crown amputation, and soft tissue advancement, avoiding extraction. Impact Of Maximal And Minimal Mouth Opening On Mandibular Flexure Via Scanning, Kangyeong Lim

Background: Mandibular flexure during mouth opening affects prosthodontic outcomes, but digital scanner research is limited.

Methods: Seventy dental students (35 males, 35 females) had two impressions taken: one with maximum and one with minimum mouth opening.

Results: First molars showed higher deviations than premolars. Females had larger deviations, though not statistically significant.

Conclusion: First molars exhibit greater flexure than premolars.

Root And Canal Morphology Of Mandibular Second Molars In An Egyptian Subpopulation: A Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Study, Shehabeldin Mohamed Saber Prof.Dr.

Background: This study was using Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to examine the anatomical variations in mandibular second molars in an Egyptian sub-population. Methods: A total of 350 CBCT images (215 females and 135 males, aged 15–65 years) of mandibular second molars were evaluated. Samples were evaluated in terms of: number of roots, number of root canals, roots’ cross section as well as prevalence and configurations of C-shaped canals. Statistical analysis was done to highlight differences between different categories and their prevalence among genders (significance level was set at p < 0.05). Data were presented as frequency and percentage values and were analyzed using chi square test followed by pairwise comparisons utilizing multiple Fisher’s exact tests with Bonferroni correction. The significance level was set at p < 0.05 within all tests. Results: Of the 350 mandibular second molars evaluated, 87.2% were non-C-shaped while 12.8% were C-shaped with no gender-based statistically significant differences (χ2 = 0.19, p = 0.656). Most samples had three root canals (80%) followed by two (16%), then one (3.2%), and finally four (0.8%) root canals. Among the non-C-shaped molars, presence of two roots was most common (83.4%) followed by presence of a single root (16.2%), and only one sample (0.2%) had three roots, and this had no correlation with gender (χ2 = 1.86, p = 0.431). In the mesial roots Type IV Vertucci was the most common configuration found (68.8%), while Type I was the most prevalent in the distal roots (91.8%). The long oval configuration was the most commonly found cross section in mesial roots while “oval” was the most prevalent in distal roots. Conclusion: Egyptian sub-population shows highly variable morphological features in mandibular second molars, hence, CBCT is highly recommended on case-to-case conditions.

Single-cell omics and multi-omics have revolutionized our understanding of molecular and cellular biological processes at a single-cell level. In bone biology, the combination of single-cell RNA-sequencing analyses and in vivo lineage-tracing approaches has successfully identified multi-cellular diversity and dynamics of skeletal cells. This established a new concept that bone growth and regeneration are regulated by concerted actions of multiple types of skeletal stem cells, which reside in spatiotemporally distinct niches. Porphyromonas gingivalis is a keystone oral pathogen in the progression of periodontal disease and has been implicated in the etiology of many other systemic human diseases. P. gingivalis produces primary virulence factors termed the gingipains, a group of cysteine proteases. There is a high demand for high purity gingipains for downstream in vitro studies where P.g. is implicated, both oral and systemic. Objective: The objective is to compare the preventive effect on secondary caries of glass ionomer cement (GIC) restorations with amalgam or resin-composite restorations.

Methods: Two independent researchers conducted a systematic search of English publications in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane and Scopus. They selected randomized clinical trials comparing secondary caries incidences around GIC restorations (conventional GIC or resin-modified GIC) with amalgam or resin-composite restorations. Meta-analysis of the secondary-caries incidences with risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) as the effect measure was performed.

Objectives

The purpose of this study was to utilize a no-code computer vision platform to develop, train, and evaluate a model specifically designed for segmenting dental restorations on panoramic radiographs.

Methods

One hundred anonymized panoramic radiographs were selected for this study. Accurate labeling of dental restorations was performed by calibrated dental faculty and students, with subsequent final review by an oral radiologist. The radiographs were automatically split within the platform into training (70 %), development (20 %), and testing (10 %) subgroups. The model was trained for 40 epochs using a medium model size. Obesity is a growing epidemic in the world. It increases the risk for severe health conditions, including diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Recent research has found that obesity is associated with an increased risk for temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). The purpose of this literature review with meta-analysis is to analyse the possible association between obesity and temporomandibular disorders.

Materials and Methods

Pubmed, Web of Science and Lilacs were systematically searched until 01/03/2000. Articles dealing with TMD and obesity were selected, and numbers that might be useful in the meta-analysis were extracted.

Periodontal disease is multifactorial in its aetiology, which encompasses biopsychosocial contributors, including psychological stress. Gastrointestinal distress and dysbiosis have been associated with several chronic inflammatory diseases yet have rarely been investigated with respect to oral inflammation. Given the implications of gastrointestinal distress on extraintestinal inflammation, this study aimed to evaluate the potential role of such distress as a mediator between psychological stress and periodontal disease.

Due to the underutilization of screening mammography, African American women (AAW) are more likely to experience negative health outcomes after receiving a late-stage breast cancer diagnosis than White Women (WW). Guided bone regeneration aided by the application of occlusive membranes is a promising therapy for diverse inflammatory periodontal diseases. Symbiosis, homeostasis between the host microbiome and cells, occurs in the oral environment under normal, but not pathologic, conditions. Here, we develop a symbiotically integrating occlusive membrane by mimicking the tooth enamel growth or multiple nucleation biomineralization processes. We perform human saliva and in vivo canine experiments to confirm that the symbiotically integrating occlusive membrane induces a symbiotic healing environment. Although digital impression using an intraoral scanner (IOS) has been applied for removable partial denture (RPD) fabrication, it is still unclear how the morphology of a residual ridge recorded by digital impression would differ from that recorded by conventional impression. This in vivo study investigated the morphological difference in the recorded residual ridge between digital and conventional impressions. Vertical and horizontal displacements (VD and HD) in residual ridges recorded by digital and conventional impressions were assessed in 22 participants (15 female; mean age 78.2 years) based on the morphology of the tissue surface of in-use RPD. This study aims to test the influence of incorporating different weight percentages of thymol micro-powder into the maxillofacial silicone matrix on Shore A hardness of the silicone.
