The diagnosis and treatment of third molars has often been cited as a special problem to the orthodontist. If the prognosis of third molars could be determined, orthodontic treatment could progress on a more positive basis.

This study was designed to provide a method of deciding whether developing third molars will erupt or become impacted.

Records from 130 orthodontically treated cases of Dr. Fredsall⁸ were studied. Several factors were evaluated and measured using the patients' cephalometric radiographs.

A Comparison Of The Nance Holding Arch And Kloehn Headgear In Maxilliary Molar Anchorage, Michael J. Fillman

A sample of thirty first bicuspid extraction patients, ages 9 through adult, were evaluated for maxillary molar anchorage loss during cuspid retraction. The Nance Holding Arch and Kloehn cervical headgear were compared as anchorage devices. A control group received no anchorage mechanics during cuspid retraction. All cuspids were retracted with Hilger's loop retractors.

Anchorage loss was measured cephalometrically by comparing the difference in the 6 to PTV measurement on the initial and post cuspid retraction lateral head films.

The association of fluoride and the reduction of dental caries is well established and the usefulness of water fluoridation as a community health measure has been acknowledged and proved. This article considers the metabolism of fluoride by the tooth physiologically and therapeutically and examines the theories and evidence of fluoride action with the aim of instituting a rationalised preventive programme for patients with dental caries.

การรายงานผู้ป่วยคนไทย 6 ราย เป็นโรคอยู่ในกลุ่มอาการของมัลติเปิลบาซาลเซลล์นีวัส เป็นการศึกษา และติดตามผู้ป่วยอย่างแท้จริงซึ่งเริ่มต้นด้วยผู้ป่วยชายรายแรกมีถุงน้ำในกระดูกขากรรไกรหลาย ๆ ถุง พร้อมกับมี บาซาลเซลล์ คาร์ซิโนมา และ ซีเบซัส ซิสต์ ที่ บริเวณใบหน้า ต่อมาสามารถติดตาม และศึกษาผู้ที่มีความเกี่ยวพันทางสายเลือดกับผู้ป่วย รายแรกได้อีก 5 ราย รวมทั้งบุตรชายของเขา ผู้ป่วยทุกรายมีถุงน้ำหลายถุงเกิดในกระดูก ขากรรไกรพร้อมกับมี บาซาลเซลล์ คาร์ซิโนมา นีวัส ซีเบซัส ซิสต์ อยู่ตามผิวหนัง การสืบประวัติย้อนหลังมีหลักฐานว่าโรคเกิดได้รวมแล้วถึง 3 ชั่วอายุคนรวมผู้ป่วยทั้งหมดได้ 15 ราย

ภายหลังการผ่าตัดเอา superior cervical ganglion ทางด้านขวาของหนู (mouse) ออกเป็นเวลา 3 เดือนมีผลทําให้จํานวนของ acini ใน submandibular salivary gland ลดลงเนื่องจากขาด sympathetic nerve มาเลี้ยง ในขณะเดียวกันต่อมน้ำลายได้สร้าง granular ducts เพิ่มขึ้นเป็นจํานวนมากเพื่อช่วยผลิตน้ำลายขึ้นมาชดเชยกับปริมาณน้ำลาย ซึ่งลดลงจากการที่ acini ฝ่อไป การเพิ่มจํานวนขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็วของ granular ducts ทําให้ไปเบียดที่อยู่ของ stroma ดังนั้นจํานวนของ stroma จึงลดลงอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (P < 0.03) ไม่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางจุลกายวิภาคศาสตร์หรือจำนวนส่วนประกอบของ major sublingual salivary gland อย่างเห็นได้ชัดเมื่อเปรียบเทียบระหว่างกลุ่มทดลอง(experi-mental animals) และกลุ่มเปรียบเทียบ(sham-operated animals)

การศึกษานี้เป็นการศึกษาโดยการใช้แบบสอบถามให้นิสิตตอบด้วยตนเอง โดยมี วัตถุประสงค์ ต้องการจะศึกษาวิเคราะห์ถึงเหตุจูงใจซึ่งชักนําให้นิสิตทันตแพทย์จุฬาฯ ชั้นปีที่หนึ่งเลือกเข้ามาศึกษาสาขาทันตแพทยศาสตร์ องค์ประกอบซึ่งมีอิทธิพลต่อการตัดสินใจ และช่วงเวลาที่นิสิตมีความคิดหรือตัดสินใจที่จะเลือกศึกษา ผลปรากฏว่าเหตุจูงใจที่สําคัญ ที่สุดซึ่งชักนําให้นิสิตชายเลือกทันตแพทยศาสตร์ ได้แก่การได้มีส่วนช่วยเหลือผู้อื่นให้พ้นทุกข์ ในขณะที่นิสิตหญิงเลือกศึกษา เพราะเห็นว่าเป็นอาชีพอิสระ ขณะเดียวกันเมื่อจําแนกประเภท ของนิสิตตามเงินรายได้ของครอบครัวต่อเดือนแล้ว จะพบว่านิสิตที่มาจากครอบครัวรายได้ดี เลือกทันตแพทยศาสตร์เพราะเห็นว่าเป็นอาชีพอิสระ ซึ่งแตกต่างไปจากนิสิตที่มาจากครอบครัวที่ยากจน ซึ่งเลือกเข้าศึกษาเพราะเห็นว่าเป็นวิชาที่มั่นคง ส่วนเหตุผลที่ว่าการได้ช่วยเหลือ ผู้อื่นให้พ้นทุกข์นิสิตกลุ่มนี้จัดอยู่ในอันดับค่อนข้างไปทางท้าย ๆ (อันดับ 5) นิสิตทั้งหมด เห็นว่า เกียรติของวิชาชีพทันตแพทย์ซึ่งได้รับการยกย่องจากคนในสังคมจัดอยู่ในอันดับต่ํา นิสิตหญิง 84.61 เปอร์เซ็นต์ (44 จาก 52 คน) คิดเลือกเรียนทันตแพทย์ตั้งแต่เรียน ม.ศ. 4 หรือก่อนจบ ม.ศ. 5 ซึ่งมากกว่านิสิตชายซึ่งมีเพียง 56.4 เปอร์เซ็นต์ (22 จาก 39 คน) ความต้องการของพ่อแม่และญาติพี่น้องมีอิทธิพลอย่างมากต่อการตัดสินใจเลือกเข้ามาเรียนทันตแพทยศาสตร์

The purpose of this study was to investigate the criteria used to select dental hygiene students and to determine the ability of these criteria to predict students' successful completion of a dental hygiene program. One hundred sixteen graduates of the certificate level dental hygiene program at Old Dominion University between 1971- 1981, inclusive, comprised the sample. The majority of the subjects were Caucasian females, ages 20 to 24. ได้สร้างแบบสอบถามชนิดตอบกลับด้วยตนเอง โดยการส่งไปให้คณาจารย์คณะทันต แพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาฯ ทุกคนจํานวน 130 คน อัตราการตอบกลับของแบบสอบถามคิดเป็นร้อยละ 49.23 ของคณาจารย์ทั้งหมดส่วนประกอบของแบบสอบถามแบ่งออกเป็น 3 ส่วน คือส่วนที่ 1 ข้อมูลส่วนบุคคลของผู้ตอบ ได้แก่ อายุรับราชการ วุฒิการศึกษา ตําแหน่งทางวิชาการ และ กลุ่มภาควิชา เป็นต้น ส่วนที่ 2 ถามความคิดเห็นของคณาจารย์ต่อชนิดต่าง ๆ ของการวิจัยว่าใช่หรือไม่ และมีคุณค่ามากน้อยเพียงใด และส่วนสุดท้ายถามถึงเหตุผลต่าง ๆ ตามลําดับ ความสําคัญของการทําวิจัย

Dens in dente เป็นผลจากความผันแปรในวิวัฒนาการของฟัน และจากความ ผิดปกติในรูปร่างของฟันชนิดนี้ จะก่อให้เกิดพยาธิสภาพปลายรากฟันได้ง่าย ซึ่ง Dens in dente ในฟันกรามพบได้น้อยมาก ในรายงานนี้กล่าวถึงผู้ป่วยหญิงไทยอายุ 31 ปี มีประวัติของก้อนเนื้องอกและทางเปิดของหนองที่บริเวณกระพุ้งแก้มด้านขวามาประมาณ 1 เดือน ภาพถ่ายทางรังสีแสดง Dens in dente ที่เกิดร่วมกับถุงน้ำปลายรากในฟันกรามล่างขวาที่สาม และผลทางพยาธิวิทยาภายหลังจากถอนฟันซี่นี้ พบว่าเป็นถุงน้ำติดเชื้อปลายรากฟัน

The total of 495 cases (300 females and 195 males) of a representative sample from the treatment files of Faculty of Dentistry Chulalongkorn University were reviewed. The congenitally absence of thir molars were recorded from the orthopantomogram. The average age of the patien was 15.7 years which taken between the ages of 12 and 22 years. All of the cases studied, 32.8% had occured in male and 31.66% occured in female. สถานภาพของสารซีแลนท์ต่องานทันตกรรม ป้องกันในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร, สุวรัตน์ ลุศนันทน์, โอบเอื้อ เจริญทรัพย์, ยุทธนา ปัญญางาม

ทันตแพทย์ 167 คน ในหน่วยบริการของรัฐและวิสาหกิจในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร 17 แห่ง ยกเว้นหน่วยงานสังกัดทบวงมหาวิทยาลัยได้ตอบแบบสอบถามความคิดเห็น และ การใช้สารซีแลนท์ ในงานทันตกรรมป้องกัน ซึ่งคิดเป็นร้อยละ 60.07 ของผู้ได้รับแบบสอบถามทั้งหมด 278 คน พบว่าร้อยละ 45.32 ของผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามได้รับความรู้เรื่องสารซีแลนท์จากการพูดคุยระหว่างเพื่อนร่วมงาน และคําแนะนําของบริษัทผู้ผลิตหรือผู้แทนจําหน่ายซึ่ง มากกว่าได้รับจากแหล่งทางวิชาการโดยตรง ทันตแพทย์ส่วนใหญ่ที่ตอบแบบสอบถามเชื่อว่าสารซีแลนท์สามารถป้องกันการเกิดรอยผุได้แต่มีทันตแพทย์เพียงร้อยละ 13.17 เท่านั้นที่ใช้สารซีแลนท์เป็นประจําเมื่อเห็นสมควร ร้อยละ 28.75 ที่เคยใช้แล้วเลิกใช้ในปัจจุบัน และร้อยละ 58.08 ไม่เคยใช้สารนี้เลยโดยให้เหตุผลที่ไม่ใช้สารซีแลนท์แตกต่างกันไปที่สําคัญได้แก่ อาจปิดทับรอยรั่วหรือปิดทับบริเวณหลุมและร่องบนผิวฟันไม่สนิท ทําให้เกิดรอยข้างใต้ได้ อาจปิดทับรอยผุที่ยังตรงจไม่พบและสารซีแลนท์ยึดติดกับผิวเคลือบฟันไม่ได้นาน ส่วนทันตบุคลากรที่เป็นผู้ใช้สารผู้ใช้สารซีแลนท์นอกจากทันตแพทย์แล้ว ทันตานามัยและทันตาภิบาลสมควรเป็นผู้ใช้ด้วย เพื่อให้บรรลุตามเป้าหมายด้านทันตสุขภาพขององค์การอนามัยโลก ซึ่งมุ่งที่จะควบคุมค่าเฉลี่ย ฟันผุ ถอน อุด ของเด็กกลุ่มอายุ 12 ปี ให้มีค่าไม่เกิน 3 คน ในปี 2543 จึงจําเป็น ต้องสนับสนุนและเผยแพร่ให้มีการใช้สารซีแลนท์เป็นมาตรการหนึ่งของงานทันตกรรมป้องกัน ให้แพร่หลายยิ่งกว่าในปัจจุบันนี้ เนื่องจากสารซีแลนท์เป็นสิ่งซึ่งผลิตขึ้นมาสําหรับป้องกันการ เกิดรอยยุบนด้านสบฟัน ซึ่งมีลักษณะเป็นหลุมและร่องและมีอุบัติการณ์การเกิดรอยผุสูงที่สุดของซี่ฟัน
