Work related low back pain (LBP) has a clear impact on productivity at work. The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence and risk factors of LBP among operating room (OR) nurses. It also aimed to identify the disability index among those OR nurses diagnosed with LBP.

Method

This cross-sectional survey was conducted among the OR nurses working at a 2500-bed tertiary care centre with 37 operating rooms. OR nurses with a minimum of one year experience were included. This is a case study of a patient who experiences chronic pain and was admitted for an acute surgical procedure in a private hospital. It illustrates how communication and teamwork can be overlooked within the multidisciplinary focus when jointly caring for this group of patients within the public and private sectors. This case study offers a nurse-led approach to improving individualised health care for chronic pain patients while preventing gaps in health care.

Although neurogastroenterology and motility (NGM) disorders are some of the most frequent disorders encountered by practicing gastroenterologists, a structured competency-based training curriculum developed by NGM experts is lacking. The American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society (ANMS) and the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (ESNM) jointly evaluated the components of NGM training in North America and Europe. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Clinician Rated Drop Vertical Jump Scale (CR-DVJS) in a population of patients following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Patients completed two drop vertical jump tasks at 6 and/or 12-months post-operative. One task was recorded using a motion capture system. Four individuals of varying clinical experience served as raters for the CR-DVJS. Rater scores of valgus collapse did not correlate strongly with motion capture measures of knee abduction moment or angle. Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a non-inflammatory spondyloarthropathy characterised by the formation of ectopic calcifications of the ligaments/enthuses along the anterolateral aspect of the vertebral column. Despite affecting 15-25% of North Americans over the age of 50, the aetiology of DISH is poorly understood and there are no disease modifying treatments. Our discovery-based approach implemented a transdisciplinary research team to study the basic biology, imaging science, clinical anatomy and significance of DISH in humans. Our novel characterisation defined distinct morphological presentations of ectopic calcifications associated with DISH in cadaveric specimens using micro-computed tomography imaging. Health-care providers play an essential role in rehabilitation following TBI. Thus, using qualitative descriptive research and focus groups, this thesis examined the experiences and perceptions of eight final-year health-professional students in nursing, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology with respect to oral health in TBI. Myotonic dystrophy type 2 (DM2) is a progressive muscular dystrophy with multi-system manifestations and can affect functional mobility, gait, and balance. Currently, there are few reports of functional outcome measures in this population. This case describes the change in function detected by the High-level Mobility Assessment Tool (HiMAT) and 30-second Chair Stand Test (CST) in a high-functioning adult female with DM2 after physical therapy treatment. Accumulating evidence identifies diet and inflammation as potential mechanisms contributing to cardiometabolic risk. However, inconsistent reports regarding dietary inflammatory potential, biomarkers of cardiometabolic health and metabolic syndrome (MetS) risk exist. Our objective was to examine the relationships between a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ)-derived dietary inflammatory index (DII®), biomarkers of lipoprotein metabolism, inflammation and glucose homeostasis and MetS risk in a cross-sectional sample of 1992 adults. Energy-adjusted DII (E-DII) scores derived from an FFQ were calculated. Lipoprotein particle size and subclass concentrations were measured using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Problem: From October 2016 to September 2017, the 5^th floor medical surgical telemetry unit has had 9 incidences of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP). Among the facility, this is the floor with the highest HAP incidences.

Context: HAP is associated with $40,000 to $65,000 to each patient care cost; an additional 7-9 days of stay in the hospital, increases the chances of discharging a patient to a skilled nursing facility instead of home, and has an attributable mortality rate (Quinn, et al., 2014).

Fifty-five healthy volunteers (31 females) participated. The median frequency of the posterior deltoid (PD), upper trapezius (UT), middle trapezius (MT), lower trapezius (LT), and infraspinatus (INF) was measured during the PSET at 90⁰ and 135⁰ of shoulder abduction. Introduction: Aeromonas are Gram-negative bacilli often causing necrotizing fasciitis or sepsis in immunocompromised patients. Aeromonas Hydrophila is most often found in immunocompromised patients or those with burns or aquatic trauma. When patients present with a discharge and infection on bone graft donor site and progressive sepsis, an Aeromonas hydrophila infection should be considered in the differential diagnosis.

She had fallen off the growth curve for both height and weight from the 50th percentile at birth to below the 5th percentile at presentation. An investigation was made of the value of using AR as a tool to support the teaching of clinical practice skills. A series of mobile AR resources were created for use on tablet computers and smartphones to supplement clinical skills teaching in the laboratory (using image recognition), and clinical practice (using geolocation). The purpose of this study was to examine falls prevalence, falls risk factors and knowledge of falls in individuals who have undergone a total hip arthroplasty. There were 135 patients examined at their one-year follow-up appointment for total hip arthroplasty. Our primary outcome, falls prevalence and falls circumstances, found a falls prevalence of 21.5% with identical circumstances to that of average community-dwelling older adults. Female sex, number of prescription medications and multiple joint replacements were found to be significantly associated with the occurrence of falls in the previous year. The aim of this study was to determine whether significant differences in perceptions of reflective practice were present across two groups of students engaged in standard practice and experimental group conditions. Twenty-seven undergraduate speech-language pathology students participated in the study. A two-condition, non-randomised, pre-test post-test design was employed with two groups (a standard practice condition and an experimental practice condition, utilizing structured activities and prompts). Participants took part in weekly reflective practice groups over a six week period, in which discussion centered on students’ clinical experiences.
