Fms Squat Assessment And 2d Video Motion Analysis As Screening Indicators Of Low Back Pain: A Cross Sectional Case- Study, Tracy Donlon, Britanny Franklin, Courtney Machamer, Christina Mogelnicki, Jeffrey Verneus, Christopher Taber

Exercise Science Faculty Publications

Aim: Low back pain (LBP) is a disabling condition to individuals in the United States and physical therapy (PT) has been proven to be a beneficial treatment by analyzing their movement patterns. The main objective of this study was to analyze the deep squat component of the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) as an indicator of LBP while simultaneously using 2-D analysis. Method: This cross-sectional case study included 36 participants that completed a total of six deep squats. Three raters scored the FMS score of each participant. Results: The association between FMS score and the presence of LBP showed to be …

BACKGROUND A script concordance test
(SCT) is a modality for assessing clinical
reasoning. Concerns had been raised about
the plausible validity threat to SCT scores if
students deliberately avoided the extreme
answer options to obtain higher scores. The
aims of the study were firstly to investigate
whether students’ avoidance of the extreme
answer options could result in higher scores,
and secondly to determine whether a
‘balanced approach’ by careful construction of
SCT items (to include extreme as well as
median options as model responses) would
improve the validity of an SCT.
METHODS Using the paired sample t-test, the
actual average …

Reliability And Validity Of The Turkish Version Of Pain Assessment Checklist For Seniorswith Limited Ability To Communicate (Pacslac-T), Öznur Büyükturan, Buket Büyükturan, Aysu Yeti̇ş, Mehmet İlki̇n Naharci, Nuray Kirdi

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: This study aimed to assess validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Pain Assessment Checklist for Seniors with Limited Ability to Communicate (PACSLAC-T). Materials and methods: The individuals who met inclusion criteria of the study were in patients of a hospital and a long-term care facility. Mini Mental Status Exam (MMSE), Cornell Dementia Depression Scale (CDDS), Global Deterioration Scale (GDS), visual analogue scale (VAS), and PACSLAC-T were administered to all subjects. The scales were repeated with an interval of two weeks for test-retest reliability. Results: A total of 112 patients with dementia were included in the study. The …

Assessing The Educational Environment Of A Flipped Physical Therapy Course: Utilization Of The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (Dreem), Brad W. Willis, Evan L. Prost, Stephen P. Sayers Jan 2018

Assessing The Educational Environment Of A Flipped Physical Therapy Course: Utilization Of The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (Dreem), Brad W. Willis, Evan L. Prost, Stephen P. Sayers

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: Using valid and reliable measures to assess curricula within health professions programs has gained significant attention in recent years. The educational environment is considered a key domain for student success. The primary aim of this study was to measure the educational environment following the addition of a flipped classroom model within a physical therapy course as measured by the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure.

Methods: A first year doctorate of physical therapy course, “Physical Agents”, was redesigned to include a flipped classroom model, incorporating 24 videos that students reviewed independently, prior to hands-on laboratory learning. Following the conclusion of …

Profiling Shoulder Strength In Competitive Surfers, James Furness, Ben Schram, Tim Cottman-Fields, Brendan Solia, Josh Secomb Jan 2018

Profiling Shoulder Strength In Competitive Surfers, James Furness, Ben Schram, Tim Cottman-Fields, Brendan Solia, Josh Secomb

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

The shoulder region has the highest incidence of acute injuries in the sport of surfing. Little is known about the strength profile at the shoulder in a surfing cohort. The primary aim of this study was to establish the reliability of a rotator cuff strength testing procedure for surfers with a secondary aim of providing a profile of internal and external rotation strength in a competitive surfing cohort. Shoulder internal rotation and external rotation isometric strength was measured using a hand-held dynamometer in 13 competitive surfers. Intra-class coefficient values ranged from 0.97 to 0.98 for intra-rater reliability and were lower …
