The Future Of Public Service Loan Forgiveness (Pslf) Under The Trump Administration, Arrianne Bautista
The Future Of Public Service Loan Forgiveness (Pslf) Under The Trump Administration, Arrianne Bautista
Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights and Social Justice (ERSJ) Blog
The earnings of public sector employees trail behind those of their private sector counterparts, and this income disparity is continually increasing. Thus, the burden of repaying student loan debt weighs heavily on public servants. Lower earnings, and the resulting difficulty in repaying student loans, tend to dissuade individuals from pursuing or maintaining careers in public service, thereby leading to staffing shortages in essential workforce sectors, particularly since those positions often require highly educated candidates. In 2007, Congress sought to address these burdens by passing the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (“CCRAA”), which established the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (“PSLF”) …

A committee of anonymous alumni selects each year’s Fellows from among many deserving candidates. To be named an Academy of Law Alumni Fellow is to receive the very highest honor that the Maurer School of Law can bestow.
This year, we are honored to recognize four alumni whose remarkable contributions …

Cardozo Law News Archive
The Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic at Cardozo School of Law secured a major win for a client facing deportation. Under the supervision of Clinical Teaching Fellow Ellie Norton, students Vasundhra Navjeevan ’25 and Anais Rosenblatt ’25 successfully argued that their client qualified for protection under the Convention Against Torture, preventing his return to a country where he risked severe harm. The students dedicated months of research and advocacy, producing a 50-page brief and representing their client in court, resulting in a decision that adopted many of their arguments.

2025 Event Invitations
Join us for a discussion on judicial independence and impartiality with Judge Shira Scheindlin, NYU Law Professor Burt Neuborne, and author Jeffrey Toobin. In Floyd v. City of New York (2013), Judge Scheindlin ruled that the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk program was unconstitutional, ordering reforms and oversight. Days later, the Second Circuit reassigned the case, citing concerns about the appearance of impartiality due to her public statements. Professor Neuborne, who objected to her removal in a brief to the court, and Toobin, who covered the case for The New Yorker, will join Judge Scheindlin to examine the implications of this decision and …

Us Supreme Court Reopens Door For Restitution Of Nazi Stolen Painting, David Seen
Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal (AELJ) Blog
The looting of works of art during World War II represents one of the most significant cultural thefts in history, with the Nazi state seeking to enrich itself by seizing property of the people it persecuted. The Nazis systematically seized thousands of invaluable works of art and cultural assets from museums, galleries, and private collections across Europe. The methods of seizure ranged from barefaced theft to indirect means such as forcing individuals to sell their property to finance their flights into exile. Due to the fact that many works of art were not looted directly but seized through indirect means, …

Killing Kindness: How Law School Honor Codes Miss The Mark On Moral Character, Jordan Stevenson
Killing Kindness: How Law School Honor Codes Miss The Mark On Moral Character, Jordan Stevenson
Legal Writing Competition Winners
Do law schools foster a culture of kindness? This essay argues that law schools’ policies do not adequately address non-academic misconduct, resulting in university policies that fail to promote good moral character. This argument is supported by analyzing a sample of law school student conduct and honor codes, examining anecdotal evidence of law school experiences, and looking at American Bar Association (ABA) regulations. This essay concludes that current honor codes are inconsistent and insufficient and provides suggestions to improve the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, add a Standard for ABA law school regulation, and institute honor codes regarding non-academic misconduct.

Bakke, Lochner, And Law School: The Nobility Clause Versus A Republican Form Of Medicine, James E. Lobsenz
Maine Law Review
Alan Bakke, an unsuccessful medical school applicant, filed suit challenging the constitutionality of the minority admissions program administered by the Medical School of the University of California at Davis. The practice of reserving sixteen special places for minority students out of a total of 100 positions in the entering class, Bakke contended, constituted a denial of the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the fourteenth amendment to the United States Constitution. Bakke's suit afforded the justices of both the California Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court a unique opportunity to examine the substantive nature of the "equality" …
