Every major U.S. airline has experienced a violent inflight assault on one of their flight attendants. The problem is becoming more widespread, but industry leaders have few coping strategies. The first step toward addressing the issue is understanding the various aspects of the event, including the actions of other passengers (bystanders) who may witness the assault. There is ample literature on bystander reactions to similar events such as bullying, medical emergencies, injuries, and violent attacks, but none dedicated to a flight attendant assault or passenger reactions to it.

This study examined the effectiveness of using virtual reality training environments for procedural training in fourth-generation airliners. Its goal was to assess whether the training outcomes from a recurrent training course for FAA certificated Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) technicians, which used a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) to deliver and assess training, differed from the same training delivered using a Virtual Reality (VR) device.

The solution required the design and construction of a new remain overnight (RON) parking apron with space for up to seven commercial aircrafts simultaneously. The Greensburg Municipal Airport completed the construction of Runway 1-19 on a new alignment in 2022. Runway 1-19 is 5,405-ft long × 100-ft wide and replaced the existing Runway 18-36 that was 3,430-ft long × 40-ft wide. This was a multi-year construction project with a broad scope that included land acquisition; construction in a flood-way; grading and drainage; paving and electrical; and extensive FAA coordination. Challenges and successes will be discussed.

This research models and analyzes the ability of commercial cargo UAVs to rapidly evacuate logistics from an airfield to proximal, outlying destinations, particularly in the USINDOPACOM AOR. This is a tenet of Agile Combat Employment by the USAF, which seeks to mitigate the effect of kinetic threats by near-peer adversaries. The analysis sets forth a binary linear program to minimize the total time to evacuate a fixed amount of logistics from an airfield. This paper explores an innovative approach, harnessing cutting-edge stereoscopic vision technology to create 3D point clouds of rolling stock cargo, adaptable to varying solar angles and cloud shadow conditions. A virtual cargo image is generated by systematically organizing depth and location points. Accuracy is rigorously tested across six camera positions offering detailed, real-time insights for optimized cargo loading in unpredictable outdoor conditions. The findings reveal the impact of solar positioning, cloud coverage, & camera placement, pushing the boundaries of possibilities for cargo logistics in challenging environments.

In 2018 USAF decided to move towards a digital transition for programs and processes. To maximize the impact of initial transition efforts the airworthiness process was identified as a candidate for digital implementation. The airworthiness process is mandated for nearly every system or modification that flies. An Investigation Of Torso Muscle Fatigue And Its Relation To Discomfort During Vertical Vibration Exposure, Nathan H. Hodges

Military and civilian helicopter pilots often experience back pain attributed to vibration exposure during flight and sustained poor posture, known as the "helicopter hunch." This study investigated torso muscle activation using surface electromyography (EMG) to assess the relationship between discomfort and muscle fatigue. Eight subjects were exposed to different vibration frequencies over two-hour periods, with EMG data collected every five minutes. Significant differences in muscle activation were observed before and after vibration exposure, suggesting increased muscle activation during vibration compared to prolonged seating alone. Discomfort surveys indicated higher discomfort during vibration.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (2022), fatigue is defined as “a condition characterized by increased discomfort with lessened capacity for work, reduced efficiency of accomplishment, loss of power or capacity to respond to stimulation, and is usually accompanied by a feeling of weariness and tiredness” (p. 2). Further outcomes of fatigue include tiredness, weakness, lack of energy, lethargy, depression, and lack of motivation (ICAO, 2016). Stress can release cortisol which can in turn cause sleep issues leading to fatigue (Harvard, 2021).
