The Evolving Wildfire Crisis: The Need To Adapt Statewide Extension Efforts To Address Diverse Challenges, Alison L. Deak, Kathryn E. Low, Luca Carmignani, Ryan E. Tompkins, Barbara Satink Wolfson

Journal of Extension

There are many factors that contribute to wildfire preparedness in California. Although effective wildfire preparedness requires tailored regional approaches, it is crucial to understand how statewide Extension programs can address shared challenges while augmenting region-specific strategies. For the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources Fire Network to meet the growing demands for fire-related Extension programming, a team of advisors surveyed California residents to refine the goals of our Extension programs. Survey results highlight key gaps in fire-related Extension education that residents in California and beyond need to reduce their wildfire risk.

A Perspective On The Transfer Portal And Academics, John Kraft, Arthur Kraft Oct 2026

A Perspective On The Transfer Portal And Academics, John Kraft, Arthur Kraft

Business Faculty Articles and Research

College athletics is currently in a state of chaos. Previously athletes were locked into a college for the duration of their degree. They were permitted to transfer but were required to sit out for one academic year. That all changed when college athletes could be compensated for the skills and they were allowed unlimited transfers and an opportunity to immediately play. College athletes were complete free agents and could transfer at whim for more money or more playing time. The universities turned to Congress for a solution. However, the university presidents could solve the problem by enforcing the premise that …

Impact Of A 3d Virtual Dissection Tool On Written And Laboratory Exam Performance In Dpt Gross Anatomy, Jorge Eduardo Sarmiento, Heather Disney

Journal of Innovation in Health Sciences Education

Introduction: Higher education institutions are incorporating 3D technology, such as the Anatomage Table, to supplement cadaveric dissection in gross anatomy courses. However, research on its impact on student learning outcomes remains limited.

Methods: This quantitative study examined differences in written and laboratory exam scores among Doctor of Physical Therapy students who used the Anatomage Table versus those who received traditional instruction. Guided by the adaptable learning theory framework for technology-enhanced learning, the study analyzed archival data from a five-campus U.S. university using the Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman’s rho.

Results: Findings revealed a statistically significant difference in written exam …

High Tution, High Aid And Institutional Competitiveness, Sihao Wang '28, Naima Shifa Oct 2026

High Tution, High Aid And Institutional Competitiveness, Sihao Wang '28, Naima Shifa

Annual Student Research Poster Session

This study examines how entry into a high-tuition, high-aid (HTHA) pricing regime relates to institutional competitiveness among U.S. private nonprofit four-year colleges. Using IPEDS data from 2003–2022 and a cohort-stacked event-study difference-in-differences design, the analysis finds that HTHA entry is associated with a 1.66-percentage-point increase in full-time admission yield. Admission rates and ACT/SAT profiles show no comparably clear average changes. The findings suggest that HTHA operates primarily through admitted-student conversion and enrollment management, although the estimates remain sensitive to institution-specific trends and should be interpreted as conditional associations.

Exploring Bias Filters As A Source Evaluation Tool, Mandi Goodsett, Ben Richards, David N. Rapp Oct 2026

Exploring Bias Filters As A Source Evaluation Tool, Mandi Goodsett, Ben Richards, David N. Rapp

Michael Schwartz Library Publications

Today's complex, algorithmically-driven information landscape can be difficult to navigate. While media literacy skills are important for negotiating this complexity, a pedagogical focus on misinformation and fact-checking can have the unintended effect of increasing already widespread cynicism, including among young people. In this exploratory study, we introduced college students to a new pedagogical concept: bias filters. Bias filters are aspects of the information creation process that help to reduce bias in the final product. The findings suggest that bias filters have considerable promise as an instructional tool, encouraging students to approach information sources with a more nuanced, less cynical perspective. …

Grieving While Becoming: Examining Where Grief, Whole Person Formation, And Student Support Meet, Tynia J. Albea

Papers

College is often a pivotal period in young adults’ lives. Adulthood may seem like a distant concept. However, grief and trauma appear to affect young adults significantly, often without a safe space to digest or comprehend. Thus, current student support may limit and disrupt a student’s ability to understand their emotional regulation, virtues, and identity. This analysis aims to understand how student support services provide resources and spaces for students experiencing grief and/or trauma and identify how grief intersects with student success. Using student development theory with an empathetic, trauma-informed lens, faculty and staff will be able to support students …

Listening, Partnering, Designing: Smu Libraries’ Journey Towards Human-Centered Wellness, Vincent Ong, Devika Sangaram, Zhenyan Li

Research Collection Library

As student wellness emerges as one of the most pressing concerns facing academic institutions today, libraries are uniquely and powerfully positioned to reimagine their spaces and services as holistic, human-centered environments that nurture the whole person. This paper presents three initiatives by the Singapore Management University (SMU) Libraries that embody this vision, collectively affirming the library's evolving role as a human-centered wellness hub and its commitment to actively shaping a more inclusive and people-first future.

The first initiative repurposed a vacated collection space into a wellbeing-centered quiet study environment, incorporating user experience (UX) design principles and longitudinal survey evidence, to …
