Student Perceptions On Resubmission Policies In An Upper-Level Engineering Course, Tess Hagstrom Aug 2026

Student Perceptions On Resubmission Policies In An Upper-Level Engineering Course, Tess Hagstrom

Discovery Day - Daytona Beach

Little is known about how resubmission policies affect students in upper-level engineering courses. Previous studies in a lower-level engineering course at Embry-Riddle found that students had a positive perception of the implementation of resubmission policies in relation to their confidence, performance, and sense of belonging. Students also reported that the policies helped them grow through feedback and mistakes, as well as helped improve their learning in the course. To investigate how students perceive these policies in a higher-level course, students in an upper-level mechanical engineering course at Embry-Riddle were given the opportunity to resubmit quizzes after they received their feedback. …

How Does Earning A 4-Year Degree Affect Promotion Rates Among Municipal Police Officers?, Anna Brumfield Aug 2026

How Does Earning A 4-Year Degree Affect Promotion Rates Among Municipal Police Officers?, Anna Brumfield

Discovery Day - Daytona Beach

How does earning a 4-year degree affect promotion rates among municipal police officers?   The importance of a 4-year degree for law enforcement officers has been a topic of interest in a number of studies throughout the recent decades; however, significantly less research has been conducted to understand the relationship between earning a degree and the possibility of career advancement in municipal police officers. In the past, the need for higher education in this field was considered negligible; but studies have been conducted that point to the possible value of college experience and more specifically a 4-year degree. This value has …

Genai Goes To Campus: A Narrative Literature Review Of Benefits, Challenges And Policies, Jayson Warren Peters, Mmasechaba J. Seopa, Justin T. Maistry, Tebogo J. Matome, Christen Du Toit, Maureen C. Tanner

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

This study examines the role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in the learning and administrative experiences of students and educators in higher education, through a narrative literature review of thirty-one articles. The literature was thematically reviewed and coded to identify themes and factors contributing to challenges, benefits, and policies and guidelines. These themes were explored in depth with their relation to GenAI for learning outcomes, the role of GenAI in student’s learning experiences and the effectiveness of using GenAI tools to support educators’ administrative processes. In light of the challenges and deterrents identified (e.g. implementation - maintenance, privacy and security, …

The Question Is A Node: Online Quizzes As Interactive Non-Fiction, Michael Merriam Jul 2026

The Question Is A Node: Online Quizzes As Interactive Non-Fiction, Michael Merriam

ELO (un)supervised 2026

The quiz is the most widely deployed form of interactive text in education. Even when it is not digitally administered, it presents a prompt, receives a response, and contains within it a formula determining the consequences of that response. A wrong answer is taken as a failure of learning (not mere recall) and, by virtue of their quasi-digital objectivity, a batch of low quiz scores might warn of difficulty in reaching benchmarks. Ergo, quizzes embody the automation of the supervisory function of the instructor, and the supervision of curricula.

Quiz questions have something in common with nodes in digital interactive …

Opening Keynote: From 'Publish Or Perish' To Purpose And People: Going Together On Research Assessment Reform, Lily Kong

FORCE 2026

Universities hold a unique position as the brain trusts of society — creating knowledge, countering misinformation, and catalysing innovation that drives societal progress. Yet the cultures of "publish or perish" and competitive rankings have led academia to focus on certain metrics, and in so doing, chase misplaced goals. This has resulted in some misdirections: misconduct, data manipulation, mistreatment of early-career researchers, and a troubling misalignment between what scholars pursue and what society needs. How can we begin to rethink research impact beyond standard metrics to embrace both academic excellence and societal contribution? In the spirit of FORCE 2026's theme, Prof …

A Systems-Based Approach To Supporting Resident Scholarly Productivity:Building A High-Throughput Academic Pipeline In Emergency Medicine Residency Training Through Poster Development Apprenticeship, James Espinosa, Alan Lucerna

Rowan-Virtua Research Day

Background:

Many residency programs require scholarly output; however, consistent and high-volume production of posters and publications can be challenging. Anecdotal evidence from a variety of programs suggests variability in outcomes across programs, often influenced by differences in mentorship, structure, and available scholarly infrastructure.

Objective: To describe a reproducible, systems-based model for generating high-volume resident scholarly output through alignment of expectations, culture, infrastructure, and faculty engagement.

Methods  and Conceptual Model: We outline a multi-domain framework derived from sustained programmatic experience, incorporating structural requirements, leadership alignment, cultural reinforcement, workflow standardization, and active faculty participation. The model is supported by practical tools including …

Culturally Diverse Undergraduate And Graduate Students Speak Out: Overcoming Leadership Barriers At A Predominantly White Institution, Davonte Mcclam

Undergraduate Research Symposium

On October 15ᵗʰ, 2025, Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU), hosted an annual leadership conference. Within the programming was a panel designed to explore the experiences of culturally diverse student leaders on campus. The intention was to have an honest conversation, regarding the environment for which they exist on campus. Using a qualitative thematic analysis, results uncovered four themes: the unspoken expectation of perfection, tokenism, the burden of representation, and the acceptance of discomfort.

Campus Connection And Classroom Confidence: Indicators Of First-Year Success At Arkansas Tech University, Lynnlee Mitchell, Peyton Henderson, Joe Kinneberg

ATU Scholars Symposium

For our research project, we will examine first-year student success and persistence through freshman retention rates at Arkansas Tech University among students enrolled in TECH 1013 and TECH 1001 from January to December 2025. Our poster will show our assessment of overall grades, survey data, and two shared assignments. Using the Campus Events Assignment, Week 3 Quiz, and the Skills for Success module (administered during the fall semester only), we will assess indicators of academic transition, college readiness, and campus engagement.. The study explores how belongingness, learning communities, and peer mentorship influence resilience, growth mindset, and student agency. We will …
