Plotting The Literature On Learning Outcomes And Academic Performance In Higher Education From 2001 To 2020: A Scientometric Analysis, Muhammad Shoaib, Nusrat Ali, Behzad Anwar, Bilal Shaukat
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This paper aims to evaluate the teaching skills, learning skills, learning outcomes, and academic performance using scientometrics analysis from 2001 to 2020. The scientometrics method and a total of 7536 published documents were found. The results reveal that the topic of academic performance and article as a type of published document was highly used. The high majority of these published documents are published in the English language and gradually increased in the number of published documents in terms of the year. Further, the author Chamorro-Premuzic T is the top author with 1139 citations and Univ. Grandada at top of twenty …

The Lost Road As Faërian Drama, John D. Rateliff

This essay looks at world-building in reverse: the process of transforming a desirable fantasy world into a familiar mundane one. Focusing on the tools he had on hand to effect this transformation, particularly on Tolkien’s use of what he calls Faërian Drama, helps explain some of Tolkien’s more cryptic remarks in his late metaphysical writings—e.g. that what was once Valinor is now the Americas.

Childhood Sexual Abuse In Contemporary Fiction, Alana Baldwin-Joiner

With the prevalence of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) in our society today, analyzing the fiction in which these trauma cases are depicted is more relevant than ever. In this project, I discuss The Color Purple (Alice Walker), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Stephen Chobosky), Swagger (Carl Deuker), and The Pact (Jodi Picoult). I delve into the ways they depict CSA, the cycles of violence involved, and how those cycles of violence are broken and justice is achieved for the literary characters. Following the Great War (1914–1918), J.R.R. Tolkien edited the poetry collection A Spring Harvest (1918) by his close friend, Lieutenant Geoffrey Bache Smith (October 18, 1894 – December 3, 1916), who died of wounds from shrapnel while stationed on the Somme. According to John Garth, it was “one of the many slim, sad volumes of poetry published posthumously as a memorial of those who died in war.” A spring harvest is a barren harvest, but even at his young age, Smith left a number of stirring poems on life, death, and destiny that seem, in retrospect, to have prophesied his …

Woolf As Window: A View Into Martín Gaite’S Treatment Of Alienation In El Cuarto De Atrás, Elizabeth Cornick

In this article, I explore the Spanish writer Carmen Martín Gaite’s affinity with Virginia Woolf’s modernism. In particular, I analyze the modernist theme of alienation so prominent in Woolf’s To the Lighthouse that Martín Gaite expresses in her novel El cuarto de atrás (The Back Room). To do so, I provide historical analysis of Woolf’s and Martín Gaite’s respective cultures to contextualize the ways in which the writers treat modernization as an alienating condition of modernity in the novels.
