The UK National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) is at Alrewas, Staffordshire. The 5BFTS Association gave donations to the NMA which provided a Grove of five trees (five for number 5) comprising two English Birch trees and three American Birch trees and a Plaque. The Grove was dedicated in October 2002. Document 04 ‘5BFTS Association Newsletter November 2001’ informs members about the proposed 5BFTS Grove at the NMA and suggests that the Dedication of the Grove could be during the 2002 Annual Reunion.

Memorandum for Record written by Dennis Luke, 5BFTS Course 5, and related to those who joined the Manchester University Air Squadron (MUAS) on April 15,1941 for a six-month short course for the RAF. The course finished on October 15, 1941. Dennis and 14 other members of this MUAS course then went to 5BFTS joining Course 5 as an RAF cadet for pilot training from December 7, 1941, to June 19, 1942. This is the original Memorandum.

Many arts organisations seek to increase the diversity of their audiences. Recent literature suggests that this requires organisations to interrogate and change their ways of operating. This is a fundamental shift for a sector that has long considered the goal of diversifying audiences as a problem external to the organisation. Responding to this discrepancy, this article compares attitudes and behaviours among workers in arts organisations, to identify whether staff see the need to make change and practise the behaviours required. It identifies and uses three organisational capabilities–‘dynamic capabilities’, ‘social networks’ and ‘business improvement processes’–to frame an analysis of a national …

A limitation, restriction, or constraint can force us to consider previously unimagined possibilities. In the Cardboard Construction Project, the restriction is a material one. In preparing the materials for this project, I take cardboard and cut or score* it in as many ways as I can think of.

What will quickly become apparent is the surprising variety of forms that can be generated by altering a single material.

The Discrimination Of Methodist Students At Oxford University, 1768, Nicholas M. Railton

The Asbury Journal

Discrimination and persecution are perennial features of church history. This paper deals with six Oxford students who were expelled from the university for what were called ‘Methodist’ practices and beliefs. Their university trial is analysed as are the support structures within the evangelical network in the eighteenth century. The paper sheds light upon the lives of the students post-exmatriculation.

Understanding the past roles of women within the 100-year lifespan of Asbury Theological Seminary is an important exercise in institutional history. Educational institutions frequently experience turnover in students, faculty, and administration at high rates. Institutional memory frequently is held by a few older members of the faculty and staff and more importantly by the archives of the institution. Institutional memory provides the foundation for changing policy decisions, understanding the institutional mission, and following how previous administrations dealt with a constantly changing cultural and social context. An Autoethnographic Study Of A Technical Services Librarian’S Teaching Journey During The Tenure Track: “Define Myself For Myself To Both Survive And Thrive”, Junli Diao

This autoethnographic study explores the disorienting dilemma that a technical services librarian experienced while alternating between working behind the scenes to fulfill professional responsibilities and teaching in the library to meet organizational expectations as a faculty member. The analysis of personal data accumulated during the tenure track period reveals three themes: teaching as learning to become, teaching as learning to challenge the system, and teaching as learning to research. Reflection focuses on three themes interconnected by the concept and practice of mindful learning. With the acknowledgement of limitations, this autoethnography concludes it was the self-reflective lifelong learning mindset that helped …

John W. Jackson, better known as Bud Fowler (1858–1913), was a Black baseball player, captain, manager, umpire, organizer, and promoter. He was also a barber, playwright, and song writer. His baseball career spanned at least 33 years, from 1877 to 1909. In 1878, Fowler became the first known Black baseball player in the major or minor leagues, and he went on to play for a total of 20 minor league clubs and numerous other teams with rosters composed predominantly of white ballplayers during the era of racial segregation. Does It Matter Who Tells The Story? Newspaper Coverage Of Immigration Across Three Latin American Countries, Fernando Severino, Sebastian Rivera

This study examines the news media’s coverage of intraregional immigration issues in three Latin American countries –Colombia, Chile, and Mexico– from 2014 to 2018, when immigration became a salient political issue in these nations. We examine the news coverage by utilizing a novel sample of approximately 20,000 news articles and relying on a Structure Topic Modelling (STM) analysis to detect the most prevalent topics in the news. Our findings reveal that policy issues and stories related to human rights constitute the primary focus of news media coverage on immigration in those countries. Viruses are microscopic infectious agents that can infect all living organisms and are found in every ecosystem on Earth. Despite this abundance, viral communities in deep-sea environments remain understudied. Hydrothermal vent systems are a unique environment of study due to high pressure, extreme temperatures, and lack of sunlight that make environments uninhabitable except for specialized organisms. The goal of this study is to characterize viral families at Axial Seamount and improve our understanding of viral diversity in deep-sea hydrothermal ecosystems. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by impaired epidermal barrier function and immune dysregulation. Emerging evidence suggests that the gut microbiome plays a key role in immune signaling pathways involved in AD development and severity, particularly during early life. This project examined how the gut microbiome influences skin inflammation to determine key immunological mechanisms mediating AD symptomology and possible therapeutic strategies. Reduced microbial diversity and decreased abundance of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)‚ producing anaerobes are consistently associated with increased AD risk. Dysbiosis disrupts immune tolerance by impairing regulatory T cell (Treg) function and promoting Th2 and …

Current research shows that experiencing childhood bullying can be associated with negative emotional, physical and behavioral outcomes (Armitage, 2021). The purpose of this study was to examine whether the experiences of childhood bullying victimization (CBV) increased the likelihood of substance use such as alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana in early adulthood. A total of 1022 participants aged 18-25, were recruited from social media, paper media, and emails, engaged in a study conducted in Spring of 2022. This survey aimed to explore the correlation of childhood bullying, including both physical and cyber forms, with the subsequent relationship of substance abuse. Understanding this …

The show follows a South Korean chaebol heiress, Yoon Se-ri, who crash lands into the North Korean side of the Demilitarized Zone. She is discovered by North Korean soldier, Ri Jeong Hyeok, who mercifully decides not to kill her on the spot. Over the course of 16 episodes and 23 hours, as Ri Jeong Hyeok betrays loyalty lines by evading the North Korean Military Police and helping Yoon Se-ri return to the south, the two’s fateful meeting evolves into a cross-border romance.

The 2024 dissolution of the MFP marked a turning point in Thai electoral politics, catalyzing a cultural contest over political expression through music. The court’s decision to dissolve the MFP was perceived as a direct attack on free political discourse, intensifying state-led censorship efforts against musicians who critiqued the establishment. In response, political music became not only a means of protest, but a crucial space for youth to form their political identities and express dissent.
