HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Art is a vital part of the human experience. We spend so much time completely immersed in the biological sciences in medicine, which explain how we mechanically operate, looking at various neurological theories and various pharmacological therapies. However, there is not a discrete science that allows for the shared perceptions of emotions as much as the arts. A painting can immerse the viewer in a myriad of different feelings from the artist in a way that language and numbers simply cannot comprehend. The arts are not only important, they are a necessary component of being human that allows us to …

A Body Now, Perhaps Once Someone, Pallavi Aneja
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Personally driven by compassion in hospital medicine, I can’t help but pen down certain emotions we experience as caregivers. It feels too selfish to not share some of those emotions, as profound as they are, though we seldom are aware that such feelings exist, even as they become palpable during adverse outcomes. Most of the time, thankfully the sick patients we encounter, recover and are discharged home. There are smiles of relief and gratitude to our profession as healers. But at times, with certain incurable conditions, we only can treat and try our best as doctors. There are tears, broken …

“It’S Not Just About Improving My Spanish.” Student Perceptions Of Service Learning, Farah Ali
“It’S Not Just About Improving My Spanish.” Student Perceptions Of Service Learning, Farah Ali
Global Language Studies Faculty publications
In the last few decades, service learning (SL) has emerged as an instructional model that facilitates connections between learning experiences in and outside the classroom, and highlights the socio-political nature of language use (Grim, 2010; Bettencourt, 2015; Moreno-López et. al, 2017). However, its effective and relevant curricular implementation remains a challenge for educators. This exploratory paper examines how SL impacts advanced learners’ beliefs, attitudes, and motivation towards learning Spanish, as well as their ability to connect their service experiences with course content. Findings show that learners evaluate service experiences through a proficiency-based lens, where the success of their experiences depended …

Two Issues For The Nfl, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
As is generally the case, the Super Bowl served as a distraction from more serious issues and problems in the NFL. One exception was the issue of Race, particularly the hiring of African-American coaches in the League. The firing of Brian Flores as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins and the subsequent filing of a lawsuit by Flores against the Dolphins pushed the issue back out of the shadows.

Although the previous studies have given so much attention to exploring the students’ attributions in various settings and academic levels, there is a scarcity of research that presents and compares findings on the attributions of Indonesian university students, specifically in the reading (receptive skill) and writing (productive skill) courses. The Translation Of Personal Pronouns In French Discourses Into Indonesian, Sajarwa Sajarwa
Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya
Translation is the transfer of a message from a source-language text into an equivalent target-language text. Cultural differences between a source language and a target language always leave marks on a translation process. Language as part of culture influences the minds of its speakers, especially translators. French literary texts (as source texts) and their Indonesian translations (target texts) can provide examples of the differences between the reasoning process of French literary writers and that of Indonesian translators, particularly in the translation of pronouns with this topic being the focus of this present study. By carefully investigating how pronouns are translated …
