During this session, four female presenters from diverse academic and service backgrounds spoke about the global pandemic of the past two years as a catalyst to raise awareness on global concerns about human rights, education, environment, immigration, and racism. This study sought to investigate fan reactions to the NCAA communication around the elimination of NC State from the 2021 Baseball College World Series. NC State was eliminated due to Covid-19 protocols. A content analysis was conducted by looking at posts from various NCAA related accounts on Instagram and Twitter: @ncaabaseball, @ncaa, @ncstatebaseball, @vandyboys, @hailstatebb, and @texasbaseball. Content was analyzed using frames such as Health/Covid-19, Fans, Team Spotlight, Game Update, Elimination, Hype, Merch, and Sympathy. The study concluded that the while NCAA accounts ignored the incident and Health/Covid-19 frames altogether, the posts about Health/Covid-19 from team accounts actually gained a …

This article explores the response within the Seventh-day Adventist Church after Ellen G. White’s death to the dual emphases in her writings on the city and rural living. On one hand she strongly encouraged large Adventist institutions and families raising children to locate out of the cities. This was because of the advantages natural surroundings have on physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, and to shield children and young adults from the evils and temptations of the city. International debt has been a fixture of the global economy and state financing for centuries. The economic logic of accruing international debt and its management is rarely questioned in the literature, even as sovereign debt crises abound. These crises offer a point of examination, re-assessment, and negotiations concerning allocating the burdens. This paper aims to study these debt crises to interrogate the issue of international debt, the depoliticized economic mantras that govern it, their validity, sincerity, and the political and social implications on the indebted polity. Born in 1874 the youngest daughter of a samurai and former daimyo—a feudal prince under the Takugawa shogunate—Etsu Inagaki grew up surrounded by ghosts of an aristocratic military lineage. Having fought on the losing side in the wars that installed the Meiji emperor, the ­Inagaki family was reduced in power, status, and wealth but not in pride or ­devotion to its traditional roles and customs. Etsu’s upbringing and education were conservative and old-fashioned, guided by the Shinto and Buddhist beliefs her family held. The samurai virtues of honor, ­stoicism, and sacrifice applied to daughters and wives as well as sons …

This project a cultural history of the U.S. Navy during an era of a major institutional and technological transformation. In it, I trace the ways that Gilded Age and Progressive Era naval advocates successfully pitched the idea of modernizing the U.S. Navy to the American people. These military promoters justified technological advancement as societal progress, arguing for a more pronounced presence for the United States on the world stage. Marketing experts then seized on the people’s increasing fascination with naval power to rekindle a sense of patriotism by sensationalizing militarism. From 1835-1842, the train depot at what is today the Depot Creek Depot site (8Gu199) served the historic town of St. Joseph in the Florida Panhandle. This town originated as a competitor to the city of Apalachicola in the cotton industry and grew into an economic boomtown. Imported goods arriving on ships in the Gulf of Mexico were delivered to the Depot Creek Depot by railway, and then were shipped up through Lake Wimico and into the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River System. Unfortunately, after 8 years of occupation, St. Joseph was destroyed by several hurricanes, a yellow fever epidemic, and fires resulting …

Dramaturgical History: The Roman Triumph, Gabe Kilzer

Great Plains Sociologist

This paper examines an ancient Roman ceremony, the Triumph, and explains the effect this ritual had on Roman civilization during the Empire and the effects it still has on our historical interpretation of that society. Using Erving Goffman’s theory of dramaturgy, I compare the leaders of Rome to actors on a stage playing to an audience. In this paper, I argue that the Triumph, which was a ceremony dedicated to the creation of a “God amongst men” in a conquering general, fueled a reciprocal relationship between the actions of society and the way in which we remember the Empire. أن من أهم أهداف الدراسة لهذا البحث هي التحذير من العقائد المخالفة والطقوس الوثنية في صورها المعاصرة، واستبانة سبيل المجرمين؛ وفق منهج أهل السنة والجماعة، مع الكشف عن الديانات الوثنية التي مهدت لانتشار العقائد الباطنية، وبيان ما في الباطنية الحديثة من مخالفات عقدية تشكل خطر كبير على الدين الإسلامي.

جاءت هذه الدراسة البحثية لبيان غاية القتال، ودور التعارض والترجيح في بيان أحكام الأسرى، في القرآن الكريم، والسنة النبوية الشريفة، وذلك من خلال التأصيل لغاية القتال في الإسلام، وإزالة التعارض الظاهري بين النصوص المتعلقة بالأسرى.

وخلصت الدراسة إلى أن اختلاف العلماء في حكم الأسرى كان تبعًا لاختلافهم في إزالة التعارض بين النصوص الشرعية. وأن تطبيق قواعد التعارض فيه ذب عن السنة النبوية الشريفة، وإعمال لها. وأن تطبيق هذه القواعد وفق مقاصد الشريعة الإسلامية هو الضمانة لعدم استخدام ذوي الفكر المتطرف للنصوص على غير الوجه المقصود منها.

يستعرض البحث "مشروع الموسوعة العلمية للصيرفة الإسلامية"، الذي تضمن أبرز الإسهامات البحثية في جانب المصرفية الإسلامية. إذ تغطي الموسوعة سائر ما أنتجه الباحثون في هذا الجانب، سواء من خلال الأطروحات والرسائل الجامعية، أو الأبحاث المحكمة في الدوريات والكتب، أو المؤتمرات المقالات، أو تلك الكتابات التي لم تنشر إلا عن طريق الوسائل الرقمية. ويهدف البحث إلى تقديم رؤية تحليلية إجمالية لهذه الكتابات.

هدفت الدراسة إلى بيان آراء الفقهاء في دفع القيمة بدل العين في الزكاة، حيث تمثلت مشكلة الدراسة في بيان مدى إمكانية إخراج قيمة العين الواجب إخراجها في زكاة المال بدلاً عنها، وما الآثار الاقتصادية المترتبة على ذلك، وعرضت الدراسة الزكاة كأداة من أدوات السياسة الاقتصادية؛ نظرا لما يترتب عليها من حجب أو ضخ كمية هائلة من النقود في السوق، ثم بينت الدراسة الآثار الاقتصادية المترتبة على التحول من العين إلى القيمة في دفع الزكاة لمستحقيها، وعرضت زكاة الفطر أنموذجاً، وخلصت هذه الدراسة إلى: أن المصلحة العامة تقتضي القول بمرونة إخراج الزكاة بين النقدية والعينية، ففي الأمر سعة تقررها السياسة …
