Does Suffering Really Predominate In Wild Ecosystems?, Elliot Buss May 2022

Does Suffering Really Predominate In Wild Ecosystems?, Elliot Buss

Between the Species

In recent discussions of the moral value of wild ecosystems it has been claimed that wild ecosystems contain more suffering than positive wellbeing, and therefore that wild ecosystems are overall morally bad for animals. This papers critically assesses this argument. Despite its popularity, I find that this argument is defective, as it rests on unexamined empirical assumptions about the quality of certain animals’ lives. Moreover, I argue that even if we grant these assumptions, the conclusion does not follow unless we make further controversial assumptions about how moral claims are aggregated across different animals. As a result, there is no …

The Effects Of Business Digitalization And Knowledge Management Practices On Business Performance: Findings From Indonesian Micro, Small, And Medium Enterprises, Rosdiana Sijabat

BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi

Studies analyzing the link between business digitalization, knowledge management practices, and business performance are rare, especially within the context of Indonesian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). As such, this study investigates the effects of business digitalization and knowledge management practices on the performance of MSMEs. It thus offers novel insight into the mediative influence of knowledge management on the digitalization and performance of MSMEs. Primary data, collected from 95 entrepreneurs involved in MSMEs, were used to test four hypotheses regarding the effect of business digitalization on knowledge management practices and business performance using a structural equation model. This study …

Yuefu Poetry : Political Satire Or Coquetry? An Ambiguous Song, Jui-Lung Su May 2022

Yuefu Poetry : Political Satire Or Coquetry? An Ambiguous Song, Jui-Lung Su

How to Read Chinese Poetry Podcast

This episode discusses the two opposing interpretations of the poem entitled, “Mulberry Along the Lane,” one of the best-known yuefu songs in classical Chinese literature. Traditionally this poem has been interpreted as a representation of social injustice, depicting the situation of an official harassing a peasant girl. The other perspective is the poem is simply a verbal flirtation between a man and a woman and a popular song about a clever lady who employs an engaging and inoffensive way to turn down her suitor.
