In this action research study, I examine different ways to re-engage students in the study of art history. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I sought out more effective and exciting ways to integrate technology when teaching art history to my eighth-grade students. I implement studentled learning strategies as students explore The Met’s website, focusing on the 1900-Present virtual exhibition. I consider if and how this virtual learning platform does or does not make learning about art history more engaging.

The purpose of this study is to consider a curriculum that uses the best characteristics of both modernist and pos-tmodernist approaches to art education, and showcases artists that model the forged curriculum. A modernist approach to art education has students emulate the technical skills that has prevailed the Western culture of classical artists. A post-modernism approach is the idea that art education should be more about multiculturalism, social engagement, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Across the Irish landscape we are fortunate to have plenty of well-preserved archaeological monuments. One such monument, embedded within the landscape, stands proudly on the island of Inis Oirr in Aran. This Bronze Age cairn, Cnoc Raithní, (Hill of the Ferns), has been identified as a multi-purpose burial mound used by both people from the Bronze Age and the early Christian period. Although the burial has never been excavated, it had an inspection after a storm in 1885 and further investigations have being conducted by the author and a Bronze Age pottery expert.. This research is focused on the integration of art activism into the elementary art curriculum. It begins with an overview of four contemporary artists known for their activist works. A review of recent literature related to art activism and art education follows. While there were many articles discussing art activism in art education curricula, integrating art activism at the elementary level is not well documented. It concludes with a discussion of these artists and the recent literature, with suggestions for age-appropriate activism-based art projects for elementary students.

Secondary education is placing a greater emphasis in preparing students through real life work experience. This case study examines one specific partnership of Baldwin High School visual arts students interning with a local business. It seeks answers to what can be gained through this partnership and what value, if any, the partnership has to visual arts education. This case study will compare student reflective performance before and after students’ internship experience. “I’ve done my research.” Misinformation has become a prevalent topic in communication courses, particularly those focused on argumentation, public speaking, or even interpersonal and family communication. Students thus benefit from adapting public speaking-focused assignments to illuminate how to understand - and thus combat- disinformation in their own lives. This assignment works toward this goal in two stages, allowing students to argue not just against misinformation and conspiracies, but also to argue for them as an act of empathy and understanding. The applied nature of this exercise also empowers instructors with a way to concretely address this issue in the classroom. …

The ability to define and conceptualize persuasion and its nuances without engaging in coercion, propaganda, and/or manipulation can be difficult for students at first. This activity centralizes the fine points among these persuasive concepts. Students also recognize the role of their audience in the persuasive messages that they create. Rather than only having a conversation about the common characteristics of these terms and how they differ, students can observe them within the fictional movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (Lawrence, 2014). In the market for tertiary level commercial music education, educators find themselves pulled between students' commercial stylistic interests and the seemingly incommensurable genres better suited to exploring advanced theoretical concepts and vocabulary. This divide can lead to a motivational deficiency in a student that, in turn, can hinder their development and render their collegiate experience less worth the expense. In the interest of combating this potential motivational deficiency, this recording project and accompanying paper explores and demonstrates the process of modernizing and recontextualizing material found in these less commercially mainstream genres. Limited research exists that effectively describes what format of ads (photos, videos, graphics, or GIFs), receive the most link clicks, the most adds-to-cart, and the most conversions. There is even less research available that describes the extent to which the visual structure of advertisements, such as chosen colors, imagery, text, and duration impacts ad performance. This study sets out to address and help close this research gap by creating and testing multiple advertisements on Facebook and Instagram.

When Disney released The Mandalorian, it quickly became the top show on its highly popular streaming platform. As with all media wielding this level of exposure, it is important to closely examine its content for depictions of peoples including females. In accordance with Sandra Bem's gender schema theory, the implicit messaging in this series can influence the formation of people's mental shortcuts about what it means to be female. Although language-family specific traits which do not find direct counterparts outside a given language family are usually ignored in quantitative phylogenetic studies, scholars have made ample use of them in qualitative investigations, revealing their potential for identifying language relationships. An example of such a family specific trait are body-part expressions in Pano languages, which are often lexicalized forms, composed of bound roots (also called body-part prefixes in the literature) and non-productive derivative morphemes (called here body-part formatives). We use various statistical methods to demonstrate that whereas body-part roots are generally conservative, body-part formatives exhibit diverse chronologies and are often the …
