A Pittsburg State University football players’ playbook from the mid-1950s, a football program from 1951, and a newspaper clipping.

Edward LeRoy Simpson was born in Miami, Oklahoma in 1934, to Eddie and Ada Simpson. From 1952-1956 LeRoy attended the Kansas State Teachers College (now Pittsburg State University). He played several positions on the football team, including quarterback, and lettered all four years. He went on to receive a master’s degree from the Kansas State Teachers College in 1961. After earning a doctorate, Dr. Simpson joined Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska in 1968 as an associate professor of human performance/leisure …

The Black Jack, Kansas Scrapbook includes newspaper clippings telling the account of the battle and town of Black Jack, as well as some history of Black Jack-area families including O’Neil, Von Tries, Black, and Pearson. Most clippings are from the Wellsville Globe and the Ottawa Herald. Photographs are included.

The Battle of Black Jack was the first armed conflict between proslavery and antislavery forces in the United States. Three photographs taken in rural Labette County, Kansas in 1873 at the Bender family house and property shortly after the discovery of the murders of approximately 12 individuals.

Roger O’Connor (1941-2006) ran a bookstore, Mostly Books, in Pittsburg, Kansas, selling books, papers, and photographs. He previously had bookstores in Lawrence, Kansas and Omaha, Nebraska before coming to Pittsburg. He previously had attended Pittsburg State University, where he received a master’s degree. The Bender Family crimes occurred in 1872-1873 where a mysterious family going by the name of Bender (aka “Bloody Benders”) murdered, apparently for their money, approximately a dozen travelers …

Bob Black was born in 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee, to John and Mary (Collins) Black. Bob graduated from Ottawa High School (Kansas) in 1961 and went on to earn a Computer Science degree from Kansas State University in 1972. In 1972 he began his career at Missouri Pacific as a programmer analyst. Shortly after this, he moved to Pittsburg, Kansas to start the first ServiceMaster franchise in Pittsburg. Resumen: Esta investigación transdisciplinaria, que abarca estudios de arqueología, antropología, semiótica y estética, se propone analizar la iconografía de «la llama» en el arte Tiwanaku. Múltiples representaciones de camélidos se encuentran pintadas, grabadas y tejidas en diferentes tipologías de materiales ceremoniales tiwanakotas, reflejando su importancia en la cosmovisión de esta antigua cultura. A través de este estudio iconográfico e iconológico se pretende mostraría como las imágenes de camélidos estaban incluidas en un conjunto de símbolos mágico-religiosos y de poder, manifestando el rol central que estos animales tuvieron para el desarrollo económico y cultural de la sociedad tiwanakota. En 1902, el Departamento de Etnografía del Museo Nacional de Hungría, antecesor del Museo de Etnografía, adquirió una colección de ciento tres objetos arqueológicos costarricenses del Museo de la Corte de Viena. Los objetos habían pertenecido originariamente a un conjunto mayor (de cuatrocientos cincuenta), comprados al director del Museo Nacional de Costa Rica por Karl Wahle, el cónsul austrohúngaro en San José, quien posteriormente los donó al museo de Viena. En este trabajo analizamos el uso, función y simbolismo del abanico entre los antiguos mayas. En principio, revisaremos las escenas palaciegas plasmadas en las vasijas estilo Códice del periodo Clásico Tardío, porque en ellas advertimos la presencia de personajes de la nobleza portando diversos tipos de abanicos. Entre ellos, destacan: gobernantes, mujeres de la nobleza, enanos, jefes militares, comerciantes y embajadores. En segundo lugar, realizaremos una tipología de los abanicos para descubrir de qué material estaban elaborados. Finalmente, indagaremos en las fuentes escritas y en los diccionarios, los nombres que se le otorgaban a la palabra “abanico”.

En la litoescultura antropomorfa teotihuacana la mayor parte de los ejemplares se presentan desnudos y asexuados. Al intentar definir el género, no contamos con muchos elementos, ya que los rasgos faciales inexpresivos y despersonalizados, así como los cuerpos anatómicamente poco diferenciados, no son atributos diagnósticos del género. La indumentaria es, para el caso de la escultura antropomorfa teotihuacana, un aspecto que contribuye a dilucidar el género de dichas esculturas. As we have argued throughout, language is always already political. Nevertheless, collegiate German studies curricula often seem largely indifferent to language politics, especially those that complicate or disrupt the notion of German as a singular language with an indexical relationship to the nation-states with which it is associated. However, discourses such as those described in the previous sections on linguistic indifference in cultural production and in language policy are relevant for learners of German since they reflect societal ideologies that they may encounter and that they themselves may endorse or reject. This project is the creation of blueprints for a second and a fifth grade traveling trunk for the North Berrien Historical Society (NBHS). These blueprints will be utilized by the museum to construct two traveling trunk educational programs offered by the museum to supplement classroom curriculum. This project also includes a review and revision of the loaning policy for these trunks for NBHS. The McNair Scholars Program (officially known as the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program) came to the campus of The University of Texas at Arlington in 1990. Created by the U.S. Congress in 1988, it is named after Dr. Ronald E. McNair, who perished with his fellow astronauts on the space shuttle Challenger two years earlier. The construction of a digital self is fully performative; online identities are simultaneously highly curated, edited, and uniquely personal. These spaces allow users to become producers of identity and religious narrative. In this dissertation I examine the online communities which are a dynamic and developing aspect of religious life in America. I will argue that religious women have created increasingly diverse virtual spaces for themselves, and that these online communities give women a safe space to talk about their faith and create common bonds with other female adherents. The need to modernize the armed forces motivated the Thai government to send a large number of soldiers to Europe to learn military during the absolute monarchy. Sending soldiers to study abroad, on the other hand, had become a part of national diplomacy seeking to balance power between the powerhouse states. After the Revolution of 1932, the new government likewise made an effort to preserve its stability by dismissing many royalist soldiers.
