Practice Of Building Biomedical Innovation Highland In The United States And Its Enlightenment To China, Xiaoling Ma
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
The modern pharmaceutical industry began with the large-scale production of chemical drugs. With the radical innovation of basic sciences, such as life science, biomedicine has become the focus of the pharmaceutical industry, with broad prospects. Since World War II, the U.S. government, enterprises and scientific community have cultivated the biomedical industry and scientific foundation, created an environment for innovation, established an effective life science innovation system, and gradually become the innovation highland of biomedicine in the world. Building a biomedical innovation highland is an important part of China to become the world science center. China can learn from U.S. experience …

The Little City Of Louis-Benoît Picard: The Turning Point From Illusion To Disappointment, Ahmad Al-Btoush
The Little City Of Louis-Benoît Picard: The Turning Point From Illusion To Disappointment, Ahmad Al-Btoush
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
This study aims to clarify the concept of illusion and try to explain the interplay between appearance and truth in an attempt to highlight the transformation of illusion into disappointment in Louis-Benoît Picard’s 1801 play The Little City. Picard’s heroes, as in almost all of his dramatic works, oscillate between two situations: the inherited and preconceived appearance (illusion) and the discovered and experienced reality (disappointment). This may be a constant doubt about the reality of appearances. This article attempts to explain these two positions established by the playwright in the play so that this duality pushes us to concretize our …
Art In Qatar Between Modernism And Postmodernism: Yousef Ahmed As A Case Study, Mariam Ibrahim Al-Hammadi
Art In Qatar Between Modernism And Postmodernism: Yousef Ahmed As A Case Study, Mariam Ibrahim Al-Hammadi
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
The article discusses the development of art and art movements in Qatar. Throughout the paper, I examine modern and postmodern arts and highlight the roles of different factors that could influence artists in their move between modern and postmodern art and vise-versa. The forms of art developed during the modernist and postmodern periods were influenced by the traits of the people. For example, the modernists constantly searched for the abstract truth of life, while the postmodernists did not believe in the abstract truth. It is important to recognize that postmodern culture is a reaction against the culture of modernism. The …
Natural Language Processing: Between Theoretical And Computational Linguistics, Safa Al-Shraideh
Natural Language Processing: Between Theoretical And Computational Linguistics, Safa Al-Shraideh
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
This research discusses how both theoretical linguistics and computational linguistics process natural language by clarifying the foundations which the two fields are based on. Also, this study attempts to analyze the differences and convergences that can lay a clear foundation for linguistics to be computed by studying the goals and operational procedures in different language systems such as morphology, phonetics, syntax and semantics. The research consists of an introduction and two sections. The first one is theoretical, explaining the linguistic theory with its two parts: Arabic and Western. Then the concept of computational linguistics and its role in studying, understanding, …
Multiple Functional Significance Of The Object: A Study In The Light Of The Theory Of Propping, Khalid Sulaiman Alkindi
Multiple Functional Significance Of The Object: A Study In The Light Of The Theory Of Propping, Khalid Sulaiman Alkindi
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
The term “object” for grammarians denotes: 1- What the “subject” has fallen on. 2-The result of the conversion. 3- The “predicate” and the “ascribed to it” in the attribution indicating what the subject’s verb fell on. 4- Who participated in the action and other functions. Because of the multiplicity of functions of the “object”, its concept has become ambiguous among grammarians with other concepts such as “Mansob because of the deletion of the preposition”. This study seeks to find out the reason that prompted the grammarians to launch the term “object” on all these functions despite their differences and to …

Saif Bin Omar's Novel About The Ridda Of The Tamim Tribe, Irsan Ramini
Saif Bin Omar's Novel About The Ridda Of The Tamim Tribe, Irsan Ramini
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
This article re-examines the authenticity of Sayf Bin Omar's account of the ridda among Tamīm, his own tribe. Sayf implies that the main body of Tamīm remained faithful to Madina at the advent of Muhammad's death. However, modern scholars have discredited Sayf's account on the grounds that 1) the Hadīth's critics considered him unreliable; hence rejecting his transmissions altogether. 2) All other Arab historians disagree with him on this matter. The article conducts an extensive examination into the attitude of every single Tamīmī section in the ridda and finds out that Sayf did not minimize the share of his tribe …

Some Linguistic Phenomena In Al-Adawi And Al-Basul’S Hebrew Translations Of The Holy Quran: A Critical Study, Mashhour Mousa Mashahreh
Some Linguistic Phenomena In Al-Adawi And Al-Basul’S Hebrew Translations Of The Holy Quran: A Critical Study, Mashhour Mousa Mashahreh
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
This research is based on the recent Hebrew translations of the Holy Quran: Al-Adawi and Al-Basul’s translations. In this research, I critically analyze these two translations in light of three phenomena of the Arabic rhetorics; specifically, antonymy, synonymy, and polysemy. Based on this research, I conclude that both translators did not consider the above mentioned phenomena for various reasons. First, it is because of the inability to convey the intended meanings on the part of the translators. Second, it is because of the inadequacy of the Hebrew language compared with Arabic since the latter has more lexical items with a …

Representations Of Women In "Hazrat Al-Mohtarm" By Naguib Mahfouz, Tayseer Al-Nsour
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
This study deals with how women are represented and the qualities and implications of this representation in the behavior of the hero in Hazrat Al-Mohtarm (1975) by Naguib Mahfouz, which is a novel that presents a very complex human experience. As for why the woman is in this novel, the woman achieves a remarkable presence in the life of the protagonist, Othman Bayoumi, who bestows special developments on his life that elicits his reactions to life's issues and manifestations, and then in the representation of the idea of work and its remarkable embodiment. Transferring Jerusalem To Moscow: Maksim Grek’S Letter And Its Afterlife, Justin Willson
Transferring Jerusalem To Moscow: Maksim Grek’S Letter And Its Afterlife, Justin Willson
Faculty Scholarship
Few debates in late seventeenth-century Muscovy were as heated as the controversy over the naming of the Resurrection “New Jerusalem” Monastery (1656). This essay draws attention to an overlooked sixteenth-century source, a letter by the Greek-born Slavic translator Maksim Grek (d. 1556), which played an important role in shaping the Church’s thinking. Maksim’s letter helps to explain why Jerusalem ideology took a very different path in Russia than it did in Western Europe, and why replications of the Holy Sepulcher are only very rarely encountered in Muscovy. Maksim’s letter introduces several themes which foreshadow the course of the later debate: …
