Dorothy Wordsworth, Religion, And The Rydal Journals, Emily Stephens Kasper

Dorothy Wordsworth’s religious practices continued to evolve throughout her life. She was baptized Anglican, but after her mother’s death she resided with her mother’s cousin, where she practiced Unitarianism. When she later moved in with her uncle, she embraced evangelical Anglicanism. Records of her religious beliefs in her twenties are scarce, as after moving to Racedown with her brother William in 1795 and throughout her years living in Alfoxden, she rarely wrote of her involvement with organized religion. Only in the 1810s while at Grasmere did Dorothy Wordsworth begin to record a gradual return to church attendance. Concerning her religious …

Cultural hierarchy, or the perception that different forms of art relate to each other in terms of higher or lower sophistication, has commanded the way we view art for centuries. Artforms which the cultural hierarchy deems to be “higher” are often given more attention, respect, and appreciation in academia, but can be less accessible both physically and mentally to the masses, while artforms deemed to be “lower” tend to be simpler and more fun, making them have a more popular appeal. Lewis's argument against naturalism is widely thought to have been undermined by Elizabeth Anscombe’s criticisms (and indeed it is sometimes claimed that Lewis was considerably weakened as an apologist by this exchange), I thought that an adequately reformulated version of the argument could surmount Anscombe’s objections. In the last 50 years political discourse that surrounds women of color (WOC) has changed in numerous ways. There has been an at times slow and at other times fast rise in the assertion that WOC in political movements are radical and even dangerous, and that their stances threaten American democracy. However, my research will look at how the erasure of contributions and actions of WOC in the past has impacted the direct and focused dialogue of today.
