World Government As Envisioned In The Latter-Day Saint "City Of Zion.", Hyrum Leslie Andrus

Theses and Dissertations

The Latter-day Saints look forward to an era of righteous peace under a world government having its central seats of authority in the City of Zion which is to be built upon the American continent and in Jerusalem upon the eastern hemisphere. (The probelm of this thesis is limited more specifically to the development of Zion's branch of this world order.) The earliest accounts of their history give information relating to basic principles and doctrines which have consistently developed to form a relatively complete concept of principles inherent within this proposed organization. This movement, designated as the "cause of Zion" …

Emma Hale: Wife Of The Prophet Joseph Smith, Raymond T. Bailey

History Of Utah State Prison 1850-1952, James B. Hill

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this thesis is to present a general history of Utah State Prison in order that a record of that institution may be preserved. This phase of Utah history has long been neglected. It is hoped that a contribution has also been made to a better understanding of Utah's penal system.

The present penal system in use in the state of Utah had its beginning with the early Mormon settlements in Salt Lake Valley in 1847. The first laws and judicial bodies of the Mormons were very closely tied to their religious beliefs. The handling of criminals was …

A Study Of The National Curriculum Of The Presbyterian Church U.S.A. And Its Use In Four Types Of Churches In The Washington, D.C. Area, Mary Lou Stubbs

Student Scholarship

This report, examines the implementation of the "Christian Faith and Life" curriculum within the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.. The study was born from a post-war realization that the church faced a "cultural lag," failing to provide young people with a sound intellectual and religious background to withstand the skepticism encountered in higher education. In response, the Presbyterian Church invested over three million dollars to develop a modern, psychologically grounded curriculum designed to "teach or die".

The curriculum is structured on a three-year cycle focusing on the life of Jesus, the Bible, and the Church. It emphasizes home cooperation through "home reading …
