The Octofoil

The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

The problem to which this study is directed is the need for a better understanding of the current status of the salaries of ministers and their significance in the life of the individual minister, the local churches they serve, and the conference of which they are a part. The study was limited to the California-Nevada Conference of the Methodist Church and its antecedent, the California Conference, during the period 1941 to 1952. The author is a minister in this conference.

An Experimental Study To Determine The Effectiveness Of Functional Music With Blind Children, William Samuel Hartley

It was the purpose of this study to explore and analyze the effectiveness of music as an educative and therapeutic medium in the specific area of childhood blindness.

Some general characteristics of childhood blindness are summarized. Indications for musical experiences, as related to the total educational scheme, are based upon the described characteristics. The case study has a three-fold purpose: (1) to describe the techniques, as related to the objectives, employed by the music worker; (2) to describe musical activities for a definite period; and (3) to evaluate the effectiveness of these activities.

Ceremonial music in Japan is a type of music used to celebrate special occasions in special places, e.g., to honor the Emperor on his birthday, or for other special celebrations at a shrine.

In Japanese, the character for ceremonial music is written 雅楽 (pronounced Gagaku). The character 雅 (ga) means graceful, noble, or excellent. The character 楽 (gaku) means good or beautiful musical sounds. Appearing together, 雅楽 the two parts of this character mean ceremonial music, which is not performed among ordinary people.

The ceremonial music is used in the Imperial Court and in shrines, although not every shrine is …

This paper attempts to relate institutions from two very different cultures. The institution of the analytical psychologist has developed in the Western world in the last sixty years. The institution of the Hindu "guru" or spiritual guide developed in the East several thousand years ago. Yet the two institutions have many similarities once superficial differences have been bridged. The flyer features advertisements for shoofly pies and other Amish goods such as dolls, puzzles, aprons, toleware plaques and tea towels. It also contains a map of the "heart of Amish country" in Lancaster County and prints a description of Amish and Mennonite traditions.
