Administrative History Of The Nauvoo Legion In Utah, Ralph Hansen

The Nauvoo Legion takes its name from the city in Illinois which was the center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the early 1840's, when the Mormon militia was organized. When the Mormons were driven to the Rocky Mountains they revived the militia, in 1849, under its original title.

The legislative organization of the Utah Nauvoo Legion was carried out through enactments of three lawmaking bodies, the High Council of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Legislature of the State of Deseret, and the Legislature of the Territory of Utah.

Early Utah history was characterized in part by a period of journalistic controversy and abuse that clearly reflected the differences between the Latter-day Saint and Gentile populations of the Territory. This thesis is a study of the differences between the Mormon and Gentile presses concerning the subject of woman suffrage.

The Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions (BCIM) was created in 1874 as the Office of the Commissioner for Catholic Indian Missions to protect, promote, and administer the Native American mission interests of the Catholic Church in the United States. Records in this group are organized by record group and then state or territory and year. Collection organization varies very little throughout the collection, however, prior to 1921, general correspondence was organized by location. This research paper examines the transition of Washington, D.C., from a city of "intolerable" racial segregation in the late 1940s to one undergoing rapid integration by the early 1950s. The study focuses on four pivotal areas: education, recreation, employment, and places of public accommodation.

Historically, Washington lacked an absolute color bar until the turn of the 20th century, when local civil rights acts of 1872 and 1873 disappeared from official codes. By 1947, a dual system of public education served as the core of a segregated society, with Negro schools suffering from severe overcrowding and inferior facilities. Recreational areas and …

Favissa: Past Archaeological Excavation Reports

In June–November 1954 and April 1955, excavations were conducted on an artificial mound about 800 m. north of the mouth of Ga'aton river, near the Nahariya seashore (map ref. 208/768). The excavations were carried out following the discovery of pottery sherds on the southern slopes of the mound, by residents of the neighborhood. In the excavations that were conducted on behalf of the Department of Antiquities of the Mandatory Government in 1947, remains of a structure were discovered. This paper provides a detailed examination of the Washington Federation of Churches, focusing specifically on its efforts to utilize mass media for religious outreach in the mid-twentieth century. Formally organized in 1920, the Federation grew from a small group of sixty congregations into a major ecumenical body representing twenty-seven denominations by 1954. The organization was established to meet the social, moral, and religious needs of the Washington, D. C. area through cooperative action that individual churches could not achieve alone. This report and any related files are made available to the online through the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum as resources allow. Established in 1998, this museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus. It is and appropriately housed within the walls of the historic 1920 Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory, where the first tractor test was started on March 31st, 1920. Because the pioneer tests became worldwide standards, this location was designated as a Historic Landmark of Agricultural Engineering by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in 1980, shortly after testing was moved to a …
