The Man Of Glass: A Three Act Comedy In Verse, Thomas V. Calkins

The author wishes to acknowledge his debt to Cervantes. The original inspiration for "The Man of Glass" came from "El Licenciado Vidriera", one of Cervantes' "Novelas Ejemplares". Though not following the great Spanish writer's plot exactly, the author has tried to approach his spirit and theme. If a great deal of "El Licenciado Vidriera" has been lost, the author hopes that some little something has been added.

The Boston Chronicle was a daily newspaper published from 1915-1966 and often described as Boston’s “other Black newspaper.” These scanned images were made from Suffolk University’s microfilm reels (covering 1932-1960) that were originally purchased from the Boston Public Library. Some of the original microfilm images are of poor quality so not all of the content is readable or keyword searchable.

It sets out to (1) determine what is contained in the preaching of the Gospel according to the New Testament; and, to (2) determine how Bishop Sheen’s Lenten preaching portrayed that New Testament kerygmatic pattern. The study further reveals that Sheen's Lenten preaching in many instances departs from and/or runs counter to the kerygmatic formulation.

The problem discussed in this paper is the second one: Where is Babylon? Three theories have been advanced: “Babylon" is: (1) Rome, (2) Babylon in Mesopotamia, and (3) Babylon on the Nile River in Egypt. Each of these theories is discussed in a separate chapter. The wording of 1 Pet. 5:13 does not make it mandatory to say that Peter was in Babylon, wherever it is, at the time he wrote his first epistle. It does show two things, however: first, that crossing denominational lines for fellowship involves a compromise with your own theology, often the sacrifice of truth on your part; second, that the theology of the movement was thoroughly Reformed and not Lutheran at all as Schmucker insisted it was. The purpose of the writer, as he began this study, to determine upon the basis of 11:1 what the concept of faith according to Hebrews actually is. However, upon a study of the Epistle itself, we have come to the conclusion that this verse neither defines nor describes faith. Rather it sets forth the only way in which it is possible to have a firm foundation for hope. It makes the assertion that it is by faith that one can have a basis and foundation for eschatological blessings, and certainty in the unseen spiritual realm.
