The Dumb Prophet, Walter R. Roehrs

Concordia Theological Monthly

The prophets were God's spokesmen. He sent them to speak. They were not to be "dumb dogs." But in the case of the prophet Ezekiel, unique among his fellows in a number of other respects, God made it a part of his assignment to be dumb and not to speak.

Aids To Bible Study Concordances, Frederick W. Danker Mar 1958

Aids To Bible Study Concordances, Frederick W. Danker

Concordia Theological Monthly

The recent publication of Nelson's Complete Concordance to the Revised Standard Version of the Bible focuses attention on Biblical concordances in general as a necessary tool for vital interpretation. This brief study aims to present a historical survey and answers in some small measure questions frequently asked by students: What is a good concordance? How can I use a concordance profitably?

Justification By Faith In Modern Theology (Continued), Henry P. Hamann Jr. Mar 1958

Justification By Faith In Modern Theology (Continued), Henry P. Hamann Jr.

Concordia Theological Monthly

The LXX does not afford us much help as we try to understand what St. Paul means by faith, except in one respect, which will be clear later. There is, of course, in the Old Testament the apostle's great example of faith, the patriarch Abraham. The Psalms, moreover, are replete with expressions which are the accents of faith. As Stewart has well said, "The thing itself can be traced everywhere from Genesis to Malachi," and the same writer quite correctly points to Heb. 11 and its many examples of faith drawn from the Old Testament. But the term itself is …

The New Critics And The Language Of Poetry, C.E. Pulos Mar 1958

The New Critics And The Language Of Poetry, C.E. Pulos

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

One of the most remarkable phenomena in the literary world of the present century has been the revolution in taste accomplished by what has come to be known as "the new criticism." While 1. A. Richards is sometimes looked upon as the founder of this movement, I purpose to show that the imagists were its real founders. The imagists and the school of Richards may, of course, be treated as separate schools. But they may also be regarded, as I propose to regard them, as different phases of the same basic movement.

To include the imagists under the new criticism …

Barretts Of Wimpole Street, Otterbein University Mar 1958

Barretts Of Wimpole Street, Otterbein University

1907-1958 Productions

The scene is Elizabeth Barrett's room. Here she lives with her father, sisters and brothers. Never too healthy, she has been kept prisoner by her domineering father, who rules his family with unbelievable severity. Her brothers and sisters are reconciled to their father's tyranny, but Elizabeth has in her a spark of rebellion. This is set off by the romantic young Robert Browning, who has known her through her poetry. He bursts upon the Barrett household and in the first scene with Elizabeth proclaims his deep love for her. When Elizabeth realizes that she is attracted to the young poet, …

Boston Chronicle March 1, 1958, The Boston Chronicle

Boston Chronicle Newspaper

The Boston Chronicle was a daily newspaper published from 1915-1966 and often described as Boston’s “other Black newspaper.” These scanned images were made from Suffolk University’s microfilm reels (covering 1932-1960) that were originally purchased from the Boston Public Library. Some of the original microfilm images are of poor quality so not all of the content is readable or keyword searchable.
