How can the church provide leadership in the area of inclusion and offer families a place of refuge and support? How does the church care for and teach children with disabilities? As a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, I have partnered with congregations to start programs for families impacted by disabilities. Here, we show how a family affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder challenged their church to provide a sustainable program. There is hope that the church can lead inclusion efforts and develop special needs support for caretakers. In late 2021, two ministers at Highland Church of Christ began a conversation about accessibility and inclusion, primarily aimed at children’s and student’s ministries. The two ministers knew they were adequately able to serve the children and students at Highland that required additional support, but that it was not a sustainable system. They set out on a year-long process of acquiring information, resources, and fresh ideas, in the hopes that these would provide the answer they had been searching for. The Spiritual Impact Of Disability On Parents And Caregivers, Grant Azbell

This study was designed to examine the impact of disability on the faith and faith communities of parents and caregivers of persons experiencing disability. This study proceeded by asking nine parents or caregivers of persons experiencing disability a series of seven questions to evaluate the impact of disability on their faith and on their relationship to their faith community. The interviews were conducted on Zoom and the recordings were transcribed and coded to observe discernable patterns and themes amongst the participants. In the Fall 1989 Insights we mentioned that a review of claims of the finding of early inscriptions in the New World written in Ogham, a language from medieval Ireland, would be published soon in the Review of Archaeology by David Kelley. That article has now been published (Spring 1990, pp. 1-10), and even though it is a rather technical discussion, you may want to examine it.

Rare Books Are Donated To Farms

Nibley Broadcasts Begin In January

The weekly broadcast of Hugh Nibley's Book of Mormon class on KBYU-TV begins Sunday, January 5, at 5:00 P.M. with the showing of The Faith of an Observer. Each week thereafter, KBYU will show one session of the class, which was filmed in the KBYU studio during the 1988-89 and 1989-90 school years.

The Sons of Horus, who appear in figures 5-8 of Facsimile 1 and figure 6 of Facsimile 2 in the Book of Abraham, are the subject of a new study by John Gee: ''Notes on the Sons of Horus." This illustrated study focuses on the history of these gods in Egypt, their role in Egyptian religion and burial practices, their connection with sacrifice, and their exportation from Egypt.

In addition to the new Journal of Book of Mormon Studies, announced in our last Newsletter, F.A.R.M.S. now announces a second new series of scholarly studies entitled Ancient Texts and Mormon Studies. Its long-term purpose will be to publish texts, translations, introductions, and new analyses of all main religious documents from antiquity that are of theological or textual interest to Latterday Saints.

September 1991 brought Stephen D. Ricks's three-year term as President of F.A.R.M.S. to a close. Without compensation, Professor Ricks has given hundreds of hours to the direction of the organization. Under his vigorous leadership and with increased levels of volunteer support, F.A.R.M.S. has grown and greatly increased its output over those three years.

A multi-volume work produced at BYU, this reference source contains 1,300 original articles signed by over 750 authors, 500 illustrations, and 50 maps and charts. Its topics range from Aaronic Priesthood to Zion's Camp. The fifth volume contains the texts of the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price. The set will retail for over $340.00.

Noel Reynolds Becomes Third Farms President

Noel B. Reynolds has become the president of the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies. He brings a wealth of scholarly experience and administrative talent to his task. He is a Professor of Political Science and former Associate Academic Vice-President at BYU, with a Ph.D. from Harvard. He served on the editorial board of the Encyclopedia of Mormonism and has been a member of the F.A.R.M.S. board of directors for 10 years. He has also given considerable service in the Church, having served as a bishop, scoutmaster, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and in other callings. He and his wife Sydney …

Kripke’S Knowledge Argument Against Materialism, Adriana Renero

In his unpublished 1979 Lectures on the Philosophy of Mind, Saul Kripke offers a knowledge argument against materialism, focusing on deaf people who lack knowledge of auditory experience. Kripke’s argument is a precursor of Frank Jackson’s better-known knowledge argument against materialism (1982). The paper sets out Kripke’s argument, brings out its interest and philosophical importance, and explores some similarities and differences between Kripke’s knowledge argument and Jackson’s.

This paper presents an analysis of data derived from thousands of publicly available photographs showing life on the International Space Station (ISS) between 2000 and 2020. Our analysis uses crew and locational information from the photographs’ metadata to identify the distribution of different population groups—by gender, nationality, and space agency affiliation—across modules of the ISS, for the first time. Given the significance of the ISS as the most intensively inhabited space habitat to date, an international cooperative initiative involving 26 countries and five space agencies, and one of the most expensive building projects ever undertaken by humans, developing an understanding …

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a wealth of new information regarding the virus's origin and treatment. Regrettably, the vast amount of online information has resulted in the proliferation of misinformation, as the World Health Organization reported. To investigate whether journalists may have contributed to this problem, a qualitative analysis was conducted on 15 news articles from top-tier media outlets. Using NVivo software, the articles were analyzed to identify linguistic words and visuals that fell into coding categories based on Behrendt's (2008) contextual analysis for evaluating text. This project articulates a new methodology, Discursive Nodal Analysis (DNA) to explore and track the growth, spread, and interaction of conspiracy-oriented communities in digital spaces. By utilizing a combination of social network analysis (SNA), critical discourse analysis (CDA), and memetic rhetorical analysis (MRA), DNA empowers researchers to explore the unique rhetorical characteristics of online conspiracy theories that enable their evolution within digital environments while simultaneously tracking and analyzing their velocity and spread. Bobby Smith (1923-2008) was a Tampa Bay butch lesbian, photographer, and earlyLGBTQ Florida figure, together with his partner of nearly fifty years, Katherine “Kay” Thompson (1923-2009). Coming of age as the Second World War provided women and girls with a certain level of independence, Smith easily found comfort presenting in a masculine, butch fashion outside of certain spheres such as school, and quickly dropped any remaining femininity once he left it. Throughout his life, in the workplace, at social gatherings, and at home, he maintained a masculine presentation for his entire life. As a photographer, Smith documented numerous photographs of …

The aim of this study was to examine our understanding regarding the intersection of both racial/ethnic and sexual/gender minority identities and its impact on the mental health of college students. A secondary data analysis of the Wake Forest University Wellbeing Assessment was utilized. The total number of participants was comprised of 528 students from a large research university in the Southeastern United States. For this study, new categories representing the intersection of race/ethnicity (White, Black, Hispanic etc.) and sexual orientation/gender (LGBTQ, heterosexual, cisgender etc.) were created: double majority, single minority race/ethnicity, single minority sexual orientation/gender, and double minority. The Gamble Plantation sits on the banks of the Manatee River in Ellenton Florida and has been home to many different occupants since its construction in 1844. Archaeological research at the site has recovered material culture spanning the entire occupation of the estate. One of the most universal aspects of life that these many residents shared is that they all prepared, consumed, and disposed of food and food waste in the same midden on the property. This thesis analyzes the faunal remains recovered from the 2017 and 2018 excavations of Gamble Plantation to identify remains down to a species level, …
