Andrés Segovia And Federico Moreno Torroba’S Danza Castellana, Julio Gimeno
Andrés Segovia And Federico Moreno Torroba’S Danza Castellana, Julio Gimeno
Soundboard Scholar
The guitar’s early twentieth-century repertoire is of unique importance, containing as it does the first guitar pieces by non-guitarist composers known for their symphonic, operatic and chamber music. Many of these composers wrote for the pioneering Andalusian guitarist Andrés Segovia, and among the most prolific of them was Federico Moreno Torroba. In various memoirs and interviews, Segovia identified Torroba’s miniature Danza castellana as not only the first piece written for him by a non-guitarist composer but even the first such piece by anyone, predating, in Segovia’s telling, Falla’s 1920 Homenaje. This article challenges Segovia’s claim by recounting the details …

Graduate Doctoral Dissertations
An enduring tension in the study of institutions is between the micro level of agents’ activities that shape institutions and the macro level of institutions as enduring entities that tend to resist change. Institutions in crisis offer opportunities to look at urgent and adaptive changes. I study an Islamic organization that is representative of a religious institution, which has deep traditions and meaningfulness to its members. In a time of crisis, in the urban area in the United States where it is located, the organization is pressed by external parties, such as government, media, and leaders from other religions, to …

This exegesis delves into the complex relationship between cinema and art, focusing on the development of story documents within the cinematic arts. Positioned within the realm of practice-led research, it is an academic companion to a creative work—a fantasy murder mystery augmented treatment set in Paris, 1914. The exegesis and the creative work collectively aim to describe an aesthetic experience akin to that of fine art, drawing upon Gilles Deleuze’s taxonomy of cinema, specifically the concepts of movement-image and time-image.
. Central to this study is the exploration of how cinema, as a form of art, engages with philosophical ideas …
