Border Bones, a trombone duo formed in 2023, is committed to encouraging marginalized and underrepresented composers from Mexico and the United States. In its first project, Border Bones commissioned ten new works for the trombone repertoire. The focus and representation of this projected included Mexican, female, and LGBTQ+ composers. Once commissioned, Border Bones recorded these works through New Branch Records and released them as an album titled, Between Borders.

This essay contextualizes the themes of breath and atmosphere in Nietzsche’s thinking, reading them in relation to certain contemporary crises and theories. Climate change and airborne pandemic challenge the tendency to position breath and atmosphere as life’s unthought background. Canadian jazz guitarist Lenny Breau (1941-1984) has long been revered for his innovative style and stellar approach to technique on the instrument. In his short career, he developed a reputation for emulating musical traits typically only associated with the piano. A key technique that allowed him to achieve this was his signature take on artificial harmonics, a guitar technique involving the displacement of a note by silencing a string’s fundamental frequency and isolating one of its overtones. This dissertation focusses on the early string chamber music of German-English composer and pianist Agnes Zimmermann (1847-1925), written whilst she was a student at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Whilst almost unknown today, Zimmermann was one of the finest pianists of the late[1]Nineteenth Century, appearing throughout Europe both as a concerto soloist and as a distinguished chamber music collaborator. She was also an accomplished composer, writing piano pieces, songs, music for the church and, especially, chamber music. Her models were the great Germanic figures of the Nineteenth Century, especially Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Brahms.

Steve Grossman was a tenor saxophonist from Brooklyn, New York, who passed away in 2020, leaving a catalogue of recordings and improvisations that are largely overlooked and under-appreciated by the mainstream jazz culture. Inspired heavily by the modal and free jazz improvisations of John Coltrane during his later period (which heavily utilised a chromatic approach to generate intensity), Grossman developed his own unique and powerful approach to the post-Coltrane style. As the mental health treatment gap widens and artificial intelligence (AI) gains global popularity, individuals are increasingly using the AI chatbot, ChatGPT, to seek conversational support for their personal mental health difficulties. This study investigated the use of ChatGPT for these purposes in an Australian context. A cross-sectional quasi-experimental group design investigated the association between self-reported mental health literacy (MHL), mental health stigma, and help-seeking intentions by adults who used ChatGPT for their mental health difficulties (User-Group) versus those who did not use ChatGPT for this purpose (Non-User Group). This thesis examines the convergence of the fin-de-siècle revival of Greek antiquity and the denigration of women brought on by the patriarchal structures of the Second Empire and the Third Republic in five works composed by Camille Saint-Saëns between 1870 and 1910: Omphale, Phryné, Antigone, Hélène, and Déjanire. Its main purpose is to reveal the compositional strategies he devised in order to effectively give each of these title characters the musical upper hand over their male counterparts. 粵語有不少獨有的方言詞，其中有不少以口耳相傳，它們的本字往往遠不及發音普及，日常以文字溝通時多以近音字詞甚至港式英語拼音書寫，如用以表示「一些」、「「一點」的「啲」[ti:˥]（或 [ti:t˥]），便有「啲」、「尐」、「d」等寫法。近年香港市民對保育、留存本土文化更為重視，坊間考究香港常用方言詞本字的人也日漸增加。儘管如此，這些常用方言詞中仍有許多未有本字的定論，其中「冚唪唥」[hɐm˨ pa:ŋ˨ la:ŋ˨]因發音特別，沒有音義相近的替代字，故日常較少書面形式出現，坊間和學者對於「冚唪唥」的來源也眾説紛紜。

第七屆國際粵方言研討會中千島英一據先前所作〈廣東語方言詞“冚棒冷” [hɐm˨ pa:ŋ˨ la:ŋ˨]小考〉增添內容而成的〈廣州話“冚��唥”的來源再考〉和第八屆中陳小明等所寫的〈粵方言“冚唪唥”再探〉蒐錄了「冚唪唥」來源的各種説法，其中後者主要論證的「粵語説」為二文中最全面的説法。本文首部分先評議二文列舉的「非粵語説」，第二部分評議〈粵方言“冚唪唥”再探〉的「粵語説」，並和其它粵語來源的説法比較，最後整合各説法，以評議各項説法的完整性。

劉師培〈《左傳》、《荀子》相通考〉探析, Wai Man Hau

劉師培作〈《左傳》《荀子》相通考〉，是他「會通」經、子之學的產出，藉此證明他深諳經、子大義，展現「通儒」風範，同時針砭當時桎梏於一經的學風。前人分析劉師培「相通考」系列，或從版本之別，窺探「相通」名實；或從時代背景，揣摩「相通考」之作意，蠡測「相通」之義實為解荀、揚荀；或從師承關係，定論「相通」是經、子源流說，探析「《荀子》本於《左傳》」的奧旨。但是，此等論述，功夫都花在外圍材料考辨上，並未參透文本，仍昧於董理「相通」之義。

本文旨在探明《左傳》和《荀子》在劉師培論述中「相通」之所在。透過分類和分析部分條文，釐清「相通」準則和意涵。「解經」是經、子之學內在相通的根本依據，而治子實亦為羽翼經傳，所以在解經性質上，與「傳」相通。是以，《左傳》和《荀子》的「相通考」也當以經籍核心（《春秋經》中孔聖的微言大義）為立足點。筆者將在兩文「通」的解說層面，予以補足，完善論說；在「不通」的解說層面，予以駁議和辨說，呈現劉作中「相通」大義的深淺層次。最後，筆者嘗試聯繫「相通考」性質和荀學融通經學義理，探尋《左傳》在荀學建構中發揮的作用。

《九歌》為祭歌之性質及功能新考, Jingyi Luan

屈原《九歌》素以雋美的詞藻，飄渺的浪漫主義情感，被後世文人尊為中國古典文學中的經典之作。然而，關於《九歌》的創作性質和功效，歷代研究者眾說紛紜，大體上提出了寄託說、民間祭歌說、國家祭歌說等不同看法。

本文擬就《九歌》的祭歌性質進行研究，提出《九歌》承擔國家祭歌功效的推想。首先，區分楚地巫觋文化與中原儒家祭祀文化的不同，從《九歌》人稱辨析入手，考察巫觋在楚國降神體系中發揮的重要作用。然後，試析《九歌》獨特的祭祀模式和祭祀心理，以民族學資料為佐證，重點闡述了《九歌》作為祭歌的合理性。最後，探析屈原憑藉宗教祭祀歌曲抒發自傷之情的可能性，尋覓其中隱藏的作者情愫。

本文提出的推斷建立在楚國祭祀風俗的基礎上，有別於過去學術界以儒家思想解析《九歌》的研究視角。希望能為研究《九歌》性質及功效提供新的思考方向。

唐代女冠與樂妓的社會地位——以李冶及薛濤詩作為研究中心, Sze Wing Pun

唐代詩風興盛，不少女子都投身寫詩。由於唐代社會開放，除了一般的閨閣女子，社會亦出現不同女性身份角色，如樂妓、女冠等，她們的詩作大多反映她們的生活面貌。

從女冠李冶的多首情詩可見，女子入道後可享有戀愛、交友等自由。女子入道更成為女性晉升社會地位的渠道，李冶更因其詩才而受詔進宮，寫下《恩命追入留別廣陵故人》，可見女冠自由解放的生活及社會地位。

相反，樂妓薛濤的詩作則反映了當時樂妓身份低賤，以及日常侍奉地方官的生活面貌。從薛濤的多首山水詩及唱和詩分析可見，她們平常侍奉達官貴人，又與士大夫多有唱和，更有機會與節度使遊歷山水。但她們的命運始終掌控於地方官之中，在得罪地方官詩只能放下一切尊嚴，如薛濤得罪西川節度使便寫下了《十離詩》。

本文選取唐代四大女詩人中的女冠李冶及樂妓薛濤，以研究她們的詩作，探討唐代女冠及樂妓的日常生活及社會角色地位。

論馮沅君小說的空間隱喻——以《隔絕》、《旅行》、《春痕》為例, Lok Yi Chu

馮沅君作為在五四時代大膽、赤裸地書寫男女愛情的女作家，作品有強烈反對封建禮教的色彩，同時她筆下的女性角色又因為新舊思想的影響，掙扎於情人的愛和母親的愛間的衝突。《隔絕》、《旅行》和《春痕》這三部作品均運用了不同空間作為文本背景，透過將空間與角色的情緒和從家庭的出走等聯繫，馮沅君塑造了封建的室內空間和自由的戶外空間，從角色所處的空間情緒和空間移動等隱喻了她反封建禮教的思想和轉變。

作品結構上，馮沅君沿用第一人稱書信體的寫作形式，直接呈現女性面對新舊思想、愛情和母親時的複雜心理，而角色間的書信來往亦隱喻了他們物理空間上的隔絕與溝通。同時，書信體的架構亦連接了各個作品中的背景思想，打破了小說背景上時間和空間的限制，令各個文本的思想特質得以在書信空間串連。故本文會從馮沅君小說的文本內容和書信體的寫作結構兩方面，研究沅君小說空間隱喻的運用。

在困苦中狂歡——《鋼的琴》與《冬泳》中的東北敘事, Zhaohang Lyu

近年來，隨著以班宇，雙學濤，鄭執為代表的「鐵西三劍客」在文壇上的崛起，以及影視上對《漫長的季節》（2023）與《鋼的琴》（2010）等作品的關注，東北敘事正憑藉其有別於傳統地域文學的獨特體驗，愈來愈成為一種帶有事件意義的傳播現象，並成為活躍在敘事內外的方法。

本文深耕班宇小說〈冬泳〉與張猛作品《鋼的琴》，以跨媒介的方式聯繫文字與影像，串係時代暗流，並借助巴赫金的狂歡理論，探究兩部作品中狂歡廣場的搭建，狂歡小丑的形象設計以及通過狂歡化的語言所製造出的狂歡體驗。

在以上的框架內本文共分為兩部：首先，在東北歷史脈絡的基礎上本文對兩部作品的背景進行了聯繫，儘管時間背景在九十年代末與千禧之後，但在一前一後的時間承繼上，將《鋼的琴》與〈冬泳〉一並討論，在如何更好的展現東北不同時代的相同困苦與病症是本文出發的基礎與下文強調狂歡理論意義的關鍵。

其次，通過狂歡理論中的各個元素，本文將對兩部作品進行細讀分析與對比，探究這種來自作品，來自真實生活的狂歡體驗探如何在面對現實的沈重困苦中展現出東北人民的超人意志，並用旺盛不絕的生命力回擊生活。

黃以周《禮書通故》親迎圖「奠雁」處考辨, Lok Hin Lam

黃以周（1828－1899）《禮書通故》，享譽士林。黃氏在〈婚禮通故〉和親迎圖中，指出婿奠雁處當在西階上。〈士昏禮〉記「賓升，北面，奠鴈」。按此，賈公彥（生卒年不詳）主張婿在「當楣北面」，而張惠言（1761－1802）則認為婿位「當阿」。但是，賈、張二者之憑據，都未及黃氏嚴謹。本文遂以黃氏的說法為研究重點，以推究《儀禮》經文本意，說明婿奠雁處應在西階上。本文先對賈氏及張氏的奠雁說作一述論，再對黃氏駁說作一整理及考辨，然後為黃說作一補證，藉此確定黃說為正解。

集體與個人、傳統與現代——從《危樓春曉》、《難兄難弟》、《七彩難兄難弟》探舊時香港（1950-1960年代）, Ka Ho Tai

香港粵語電影的發展一直與社會的主流意識形態息息相關，五〇至六〇年代是傳統與現代思想交匯、中西文化相互交錯的時代，體現在香港粵語電影中便是「集體意識」與「個人主義」的交接。在失序的五〇年代，香港粵語電影將大眾求存的光景投影在《危樓春曉》（1953）中，在虛構的特定空間「快富巷板間房」探索階級邊界與頌揚孝慈鄰里，在混亂時代催生「集體意識」共尋曙光。直到六〇年代戰後嬰兒成為社會主體，粵語電影踏入轉型時期以適應主流年輕觀眾，減少對傳統意識的靠攏，轉而描述個人發展及都市光影，即《難兄難弟》（1960）及《七彩難兄難弟》（1968）。由此，五〇年代香港粵語電影是作為左翼政治意識形態（長鳳新）或側翼社會集體主義宣傳（中聯）的媒介，依靠承接傳統文化以穩定社會。到六〇年代，粵語電影主要是一種「娛樂模式」而非穩定社會或宣傳政治的媒體工具，以「都市」與「個人」作本描述形形色色的新興潮流和西方元素以切合都市發展與年輕觀眾口味，呈現出香港現代化都市風貌，但同時並未割捨五〇年代的集體意識，甚至在《七彩難兄難弟》中陳文的教化觀對五〇年代更有所復歸，這在內文會詳述。

本論文以香港粵語電影《危樓春曉》、《難兄難弟》及《七彩難兄難弟》作研究對象，分析香港粵語電影如何回應五〇年代至六〇年代香港社會從「傳統」到「現代」，從「集體」到「個人」的轉變，務求釐清其時間線及具體進程，為五〇至六〇年代的香港粵語電影提供額外參考及補充。

論李碧華《霸王別姬》對虞姬傳統形象的繼承與顛覆, Wai Yan Yau

香港作家李碧華以女性為主角的故事新編小說膾炙人口，但其作品之淺白、意識浮擺不定，飽受學術界批評，更被指控為鞏固父權機制的作品。然而，筆者認為在小說《霸王別姬》中，李碧華藉着顛覆虞姬的傳統形象，瓦解了「霸王別姬」題材中的雙重二元對立結構，把女性從男性設立的限制中解放，衝擊父權機制。本論文以《霸王別姬》作研究對象。第一章會先討論虞姬在千年來角色形象的演化，第二章會討論虞姬形象在《霸》小說中的繼承，並延伸出第三章虞姬形象在小說中的顛覆，並分析作者的寫作策略對文本談及之性別議題賦予的意義。
