Revising Llm Text To (Re)Discover Rhetoric In A Graduate Seminar, Clancy Ratliff

In this essay, I share an assignment that asks students to engage in rhetorical revision of LLM text using a changelog table as a tool to document the revision. To demonstrate to the students what I was asking them to do, I did the assignment myself, and my example is included in this chapter as well. I argue that the style of generated text from LLMs calls for increased resistance to the norms and conventions of school writing and an embrace of writing that’s more rhetorical: a bit more personal, risky, rule-breaking, creative, and experimental, intentionally centering purpose and audience. …

Timing, a critical aspect in social contexts and human cognition, has been extensively studied across diverse fields, such as biology, neuroscience, and business. However, there is a lack of interdisciplinary approaches that offer fresh perspectives on how timing works. Music performance, being inherently temporal in nature, presents a unique opportunity to bridge this gap and explore timing mechanisms in a multifaceted context. This research explores how professional musicians understand and utilize timing in their training and artistic development, and how these insights can be applied to business contexts, bridging the two fields to understand timing more comprehensively. ในยุคที่สังคมเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างรวดเร็ว ผู้คนเริ่มแสวงหาวิธีใหม่ในการสร้างความสำเร็จและความมั่นคงในชีวิต แนวคิดเรื่องการบนบานหรือการขอพรซึ่งเคยผูกโยงกับสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์เพียงอย่างเดียว ได้เปลี่ยนไปสู่การสร้างพลังศรัทธาร่วมในสังคม โดยเชื่อว่าทุกสิ่งและทุกคนรอบตัวสามารถเป็นที่พึ่งได้ (Crowd Trusting) ผ่านการมีส่วนร่วมและเชื่อมโยงพลังจากหลายบุคคล (Decentralization) งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อหาแนวทางการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับแบรนด์บริการบนบานยุคใหม่ที่สะท้อนแนวคิด Crowd Trusting และ Decentralization โดยรวบรวมข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับความเชื่อ การบนบาน แนวคิด Crowd Trusting และ Decentralization รวมถึงการพัฒนาแอปพลิเคชันและการสร้างแบรนด์ ร่วมกับการศึกษาเชิงคุณภาพผ่านสัมภาษณ์และแบบสอบถามกลุ่มเป้าหมาย Generation Z โดยเฉพาะผู้ที่มีประสบการณ์การบนบานแบบไม่ยึดโยงกับสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์โดยตรง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า แบรนด์ควรสื่อสารผ่านแนวคิด “Together We Shine” เพื่อสะท้อนพลังของการรวมและการสร้างสรรค์ร่วมกัน โดยมีบุคลิกภาพแบรนด์ที่เข้มแข็ง สนุกสนาน และทันสมัย (Forceful, Enjoyable, Cheerful และ Modern) อัตลักษณ์ของแบรนด์สอดคล้องกับ Brand Archetype ประเภท The Creator ที่เน้นการริเริ่มสิ่งใหม่และสร้างนวัตกรรมแตกต่าง แนวทางการออกแบบเรขศิลป์ที่เหมาะสม ได้แก่ การสร้างภาพลักษณ์ที่ให้ประสบการณ์สนุกสนาน แปลกใหม่ โดยไม่จำเป็นต้องยึดติดภาพลักษณ์ทางศรัทธาแบบดั้งเดิม แต่เน้นการสร้างความเชื่อมั่นและไว้วางใจจากผู้ใช้ ผ่านการออกแบบแนว Illustration ที่สะท้อนแนวคิดร่วมสมัยอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ

สภาวะจิตเกาะเกี่ยวร่วม เป็นมโนทัศน์สำคัญอันหนึ่งในการทำความเข้าใจความเป็นจริงทางสังคมและปรากฏการณ์ของความเป็นกลุ่ม โดยบ่งถึงความสามารถทางจิตของปัจเจกบุคคลที่จะมุ่งหมายหรือสัมพันธ์กับวัตถุ สภาวการณ์ ประพจน์ หรือการกระทำในฐานะ “กลุ่ม” (หรือในฐานะพวกเรา) วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษามโนทัศน์เรื่องความตั้งใจกระทำการร่วม ซึ่งเป็นประเด็นย่อยอันหนึ่งในข้อถกเถียงเรื่องสภาวะจิตเกาะเกี่ยวร่วม และเป็นหนึ่งในปัญหาสำคัญที่มีการถกเถียงกันในภววิทยาสังคม ปรัชญาจิต และปรัชญาการกระทำ แนวทางและคำอธิบายแบบดั้งเดิมเกี่ยวกับความเข้าใจที่มีต่อมโนทัศน์ดังกล่าว สามารถแบ่งออกได้เป็นสามแนวทางของนักคิดสามคน ได้แก่ แนวทางแบบมุ่งเน้นเนื้อหา ของไมเคิล แบรทแมน แนวทางแบบมุ่งเน้นองค์ประธาน ของมากาเร็ต กิลเบอร์ต และแนวทางแบบมุ่งเน้นรูปแบบทางจิต ของจอห์น เซิร์ล วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งเสนอข้อถกเถียงว่าทั้งสามแนวทางต่างเผชิญข้อท้าทายเชิงทฤษฎีบางประการ กล่าวคือ สองแนวทางแรกเผชิญปัญหาเรื่องการให้คำอธิบายเป็นวงกลม ส่วนแนวทางที่สามเผชิญปัญหาเรื่องการเข้าใจธรรมชาติของสภาวะจิตเกาะเกี่ยวแบบภายในนิยม ที่ขาดมิติเชิงความสัมพันธ์ จากนั้นจะเสนอทางเลือกคำอธิบายใหม่โดยอาศัยแนวคิดของจอร์จ เฮอเบิร์ต มี้ดเรื่องตัวตนทางสังคม ซึ่งสามารถหลีกเลี่ยงปัญหาและให้คำอธิบายปรากฏการณ์ความตั้งใจกระทำการร่วมได้ดีกว่าแนวทางที่ผ่านมา

In the Fall of 2023, I had the great pleasure of studying the first season of an HBO drama from the 2000s called The Wire. In this paper, I analyze how creator David Simons made relevant cultural commentary about American capitalism and its effects on the citizens of our cities, specifically Baltimore. Simon derives his knowledge of Baltimore from his years spent as a crime reporter at The Baltimore Sun, which had a profound influence on the realism displayed in the show. Sex Education (Sex Ed) is crucial in the United States due to its impact on health, finance, politics, and education. Despite existing programs, the U.S. has one of the highest rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies worldwide according to the 2021 dataset collected by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). The Department of Health and Services advocates for increased education to reduce these rates. This dissertation investigated the effectiveness of Sex Ed by examining the role of identity, priming, Self-Determination Theory, and the Theory of Planned Behavior. Yuriko Doi founded the Theatre of Yugen in San Francisco and taught American students noh and kyōgen for more than thirty years. Noh theatre, in living practice in Japan for more than six hundred years, incorporates music, dance, acting, and singing. While noh is serious and sombre, kyōgen is a comedic form traditionally performed within or between noh plays. Starting in the late 1970s, Doi’s Theatre of Yugen performed new works inspired and informed by noh as well as kyōgen in English around the US and also in Japan. This chapter is a preliminary enquiry into a process for which I have invented the term ‘reverse translation’ since there seems to be no specific term available for it. Reverse translation is the process by which the meaning of a Hindu philosophical concept changes in Indian languages because of a process of incorrect translation to and from English.
