Living Well With Ai: Virtue, Education, And Artificial Intelligence, Nicholas Smith, Darby Vickers Feb 2024

Living Well With Ai: Virtue, Education, And Artificial Intelligence, Nicholas Smith, Darby Vickers

Philosophy: Faculty Scholarship

Artificial intelligence technologies have become a ubiquitous part of human life. This prompts us to ask, ‘how should we live well with artificial intelligence?’ Currently, the most prominent candidate answers to this question are principlist. According to these approaches, if you teach people some finite set of principles or convince them to adopt the right rules, people will be able to live and act well with artificial intelligence, even in an evolving and opaque moral world. We find the dominant principlist approaches to be ill-suited to providing forward-looking moral guidance regarding living well with artificial intelligence. We analyze some of …

Real #Hotgirl Sh*T: Practical Application Of Intersectional Re-Presentation Instruction, Jessica F. Love Feb 2024

Real #Hotgirl Sh*T: Practical Application Of Intersectional Re-Presentation Instruction, Jessica F. Love

Feminist Pedagogy

This critical commentary outlines how the Real #HotGirl Sh*T: Megan Thee Stallion & Mediated Hip Hop, Black Feminist and Communication Pedagogy promotes active learning via popular culture and digital media, and it provides a practical model for employing intersectionality in classroom settings. Previous critical media pedagogy exploring minority media re-presentation primarily focused on the effects of master narratives produced by traditional media. This syllabus's incorporation of social and digital media helps students understand how collective minority groups use and interact with media as a political tool to challenge re-presentational regimes. More importantly, this syllabus employs real-world examples of popular culture …

A Hip Hop Dialogic: Exploring Hip Hop Feminism In The College Classroom, Makini Beck, Nickesia Gordon Feb 2024

A Hip Hop Dialogic: Exploring Hip Hop Feminism In The College Classroom, Makini Beck, Nickesia Gordon

Feminist Pedagogy

In this paper, we explore the use of Hip Hop feminist pedagogy in an undergraduate classroom. We discuss the ways an in-class deliberation activity can: 1) engage students in ethical argumentation and critical reasoning on Black and Latina women’s representations in Hip Hop music and culture; 2) invoke discussions about the sexual and racial politics inherent in Hip Hop, including the objectification, hyper-visualization and marginalization of Black and Latina women; and 3) prompt students to think about Black and Latina women’s resistance to dominant male discourses and the ways women participation in the music and culture can be identified as …

Interpersonal Activism: How Local Black Residents Shaped The University Of Mississippi And Oxford In The Mid-Twentieth Century, Anna F. Kaplan Feb 2024

Interpersonal Activism: How Local Black Residents Shaped The University Of Mississippi And Oxford In The Mid-Twentieth Century, Anna F. Kaplan

Study the South

"It is difficult to measure the direct impact—and sometimes even the existence—of daily personal interactions on individuals’ thoughts about race and desegregation. Rather than attempting to parse between change stemming from interpersonal relationships versus change as a result of federal intervention, I examine interracial and intraracial interactions across the town/gown divide in Oxford as spheres of influence. Black challenges to White supremacy at UM brought systemic racism into question even though those systems of oppression remained in place."

His neighborhood was a mix of Jews, Italians, and Irish people. There were some tensions between the Jews and the Christians. People mostly kept within their own groups, although Bergman does recall that his parents had very close Catholic friends. In Bergman’s high school, the Christian kids were more popular than the Jewish kids. All of Bergman’s friends in high school …

The text also delves into the economic impacts of endowments, detailing their role in employment, income redistribution, and fostering various industries. …

In addition, the study explores the major reasons for these shifts and whether they are stimulated by the global refugee regime or other factors such as domestic legislation. The thesis attempts to answer the following two questions: 1) what are the shifts in …
