Building Bridges: Fostering Team Leadership Between Elders And Pastors Of Ethiopian Evangelical Churches In North America, Abraham Abiyo Teanso Oct 2024

Building Bridges: Fostering Team Leadership Between Elders And Pastors Of Ethiopian Evangelical Churches In North America, Abraham Abiyo Teanso

Doctor of Ministry

In Ethiopia, church leaders usually have full authority, while pastors have no power in decision-making. But in the USA, things are different. Here, pastors often have a lot of authority due to modern leadership styles. When older leaders from Ethiopia come to the USA, they want to stick to the traditional way of leading they were used to. They think pastors should only teach, not lead. However, younger generations and those who like modern leadership want pastors to stay in charge. This difference in opinion has caused problems among leaders in Ethiopian churches in North America. This can make people …

Sabbath Rest, Gregory Mcmullen Oct 2024

Sabbath Rest, Gregory Mcmullen

Doctor of Leadership

Limited time and finances have significantly contributed to the spiritual decay and practice of the Sabbath in Snohomish County. Through this study, I have identified that community members, immigrants, and refugees are impacted the most by working overtime or two jobs to provide a home for their families. Many immigrants not only have to work very hart but but most frequent food banks and seek assistance from the local church. Unfortunately, things are better as a high percentage of firstborn Slavic and Hispanics students drop out of school to work or take care of their younger siblings. Native Americans followed …

Ai Virtual Assistant For Student Disability Services: Implementing Rag-Enhanced Chatbots In Higher Education Support, Hannah Sussman, Jon Chun Oct 2024

Ai Virtual Assistant For Student Disability Services: Implementing Rag-Enhanced Chatbots In Higher Education Support, Hannah Sussman, Jon Chun

IPHS 391: Interdisciplinary AI Frontiers

When students with disabilities enter the college arena they lose many of the resources that supported them throughout high school, and suddenly are responsible for advocating for their needs and rights themselves. For some, this is an easy transition, but for most the sudden shift in setting, expectations, and responsibilities leaves them unprepared to transition smoothly into college life. A chatbot with sufficient institutional data and information about disabilities and accommodations could help college students with disabilities by providing immediate and personalized guidance throughout their college experience. The proposed accessibility support system implements a hybrid architecture combining a Retrieval-Augmented Generation …

Fake Drake? Ai Music Generation Implicates Copyright And The Right Of Publicity, Hope Juzon Oct 2024

Fake Drake? Ai Music Generation Implicates Copyright And The Right Of Publicity, Hope Juzon

Washington Law Review

Artificial intelligence has contributed to music composition since the 1950s. Its contributions evolved from machines that produced simple melodies to programs that generate accurate vocal imitations of singers. Modern artificial intelligence relies on pre-existing—and often copyrighted—songs to create new music, the most common of which include vocal imitations of popular singers. Copyright law in the United States has yet to address how copyright holders’ rights are implicated when artificial intelligence programs are trained on protected works. As a result, these rights holders across disciplines and sectors have filed complaints alleging infringement of their works. While copyright holders await their fate, …

Reforming Community Structures: The Public Library's Impact On The Midwestern Author, Mary Sabo

English: Student Scholarship & Creative Works

Public libraries, though increasingly overlooked, are pivotal spaces for Midwestern communities. Public libraries are fundamental institutions for those in their community and have consistently remained this way, due to the safety they provide as constant outlets for public life. Established in the late 1800s, the emerging public library system developed itself with the foundational goal of reforming society and addressing issues of “public vice” such as “drinking, gambling, and prostitution” (Goldstein 214). The following research discusses public libraries and librarians' continuous support for the moral health of society and how the public library has influenced Midwestern literary careers, specifically that …

The Hidden Atrocity Of The Kafala System: Addressing The Domestic And Sexual Abuse Against Female Migrant Workers In Qatar, Sarah Lee

Global Studies Senior Capstone

The Kafala System is a labor sponsorship program in the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jordan, and Lebanon, originally created to be beneficial for migrant workers by providing a legal framework that provides advantages for both foreign workers and their local sponsors. However, this program has turned into an avenue for human trafficking, with different forms of exploitations increasing through it. This paper focuses on this system in the context of Qatar, discussing the history, nature of the Kafala System, as well as it’s impact on female migrant workers. Female migrant workers face a different set of struggles compared to their male …

Gender In Tanzania: People’S Perceptions On Changing Female Gender Roles In Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Samantha Rice Oct 2024

Gender In Tanzania: People’S Perceptions On Changing Female Gender Roles In Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Samantha Rice

Tanzania: Wildlife Conservation and Political Ecology

Traditional gender roles have existed in Tanzania for centuries and are only now beginning to change as the country becomes increasingly globalized and more immersed in the global scene. Many studies in Tanzania focus on the lived experiences of women and women’s equality from an outsider’s perspective. Few focus on the general population’s perception of the state of gender roles and how they are changing. The city of Dar Es Salaam is uniquely exposed to external influences, being a large commercial city growing more rapidly than most cities in Africa. By using a questionnaire and the general population of Dar …

Seeds Of Dependency: How Neocolonialism Acts‬ ‭ As A Barrier To Sustainable Agriculture In Cameroon’S Centre Region, Joseph Caltagirone Oct 2024

Seeds Of Dependency: How Neocolonialism Acts‬ ‭ As A Barrier To Sustainable Agriculture In Cameroon’S Centre Region, Joseph Caltagirone

Cameroon: Development and Social Change

This paper aims to answer how neocolonialism has acted as a barrier to sustainable agriculture in the Centre region of Cameroon. This research draws on primary data from interviews with government officials, NGO employees, and farmers, as well as observations conducted in the village of Sa’a, and a review of literature on Cameroon’s colonial history and agricultural practices. It reveals that the barriers to sustainable agriculture are rooted in entrenched economic incentives driven by foreign investors and multinationals, with the complicity of the Cameroonian government, domestic NGOs, and producers. Findings uncovered that these financial incentives in turn encourage export driven …

The Ideological State Apparatus Of Cameroon: Molding Consciousness, Ethan Levine Oct 2024

The Ideological State Apparatus Of Cameroon: Molding Consciousness, Ethan Levine

Cameroon: Development and Social Change

The ideological state apparatus is a concept introduced by French Marxist philosopher Louis Althusser that refers to the body of institutions–educational, cultural, religious, and communications–that shape the popular class’ values, beliefs, and political ideas to legitimize and reproduce the conditions of production. This framework is essential for my research because it offers a material basis–the economic foundations–of the institutions that mold consciousness. Simply put, the education and media in Cameroon, as in every state, are guided by the underlying logics of their mode of production. Using this framework, my research explores the political consciousness of the working class in Yaoundé …

Khet खेत: Board Game Development As A Knowledge Producing Mechanism For Agroecological Development In Nepal, Margaret Mclaughlin Oct 2024

Khet खेत: Board Game Development As A Knowledge Producing Mechanism For Agroecological Development In Nepal, Margaret Mclaughlin

Nepal: Development, Gender, and Social Change in the Himalaya

Sustainable agriculture is a frequently weaponized phrase with a varying degree of intentions and applications world-wide. For Nepal, true sustainability lies within cultivating traditional indigenous agricultural practices in favor of imported western methods which are ill suited for the unique geography of Nepal and the longevity of the people and place they call home. Agroecology, or the focus on the importance of biodiversity conservation and attention to the greater natural balance lies at the heart of agricultural development and community building efforts which sustain Nepali agriculture at its core. By using board game play as a facilitator of cooperative knowledge …
