Giovanni Boccaccio’s introduction to the Decameron depicts one of the most gruesome and vivid portraits of the effects of the Black Death in Florence to come out of medieval Italy. Until 2020, students’ understanding of the plague in medieval Florence was, at best, one of lurid interest in the gory details of a disease that killed nearly 1/3 of the population of Europe, an interest far removed from their reality. Bekah replaces Beth Zurbuchen, who served as President for the past fifteen years and helped open a new center in 2008 in New Glarus, Wisconsin. With Beth retiring, Bekah has big shoes to fill! The Swiss American Historical Society has close ties with the Swiss Center of North America, where we held our annual meeting last October.

The Epistemic Role Of Ai Decision Support Systems: Neither Superiors, Nor Inferiors, Nor Peers, Rand Hirmiz

Despite the importance of discussions over the epistemic role that artificially intelligent decision support systems ought to play, there is currently a lack of these discussions in both the AI literature and the epistemology literature. My goal in this paper is to rectify this by proposing an account of the epistemic role of AI decision support systems in medicine and discussing what this epistemic role means with regard to how these systems ought to be utilized. In particular, I argue that AI decision support systems are not epistemic superiors, inferiors, or peers. Instead, I recommend that they be classified in …

Historian John van Wyhe has written a good deal on Alfred Russel Wallace’s travels in the Malay Archipelago in the 1850s and 1860s, in so doing coming to a number of generally derogative surmises on Wallace’s thoughts and collecting efforts that disagree with the conclusions made by other scholars. In this work one example of such treatment is given, concerning Wallace’s estimation of the number of persons in Singapore attacked by tigers over the middle years of that century.

Maude Valérie White (1866-1937) was an English composer during the Victorian Era. Her main output was in the genre of art song, of which she wrote more than two hundred during her life. Her music was very popular at the height of her career around 1880-1890, but fell out of favor with the general public in line with the general reaction against Victorian art and ideals. This written document focuses on the life of Maude Valérie White contextualized within the ideals of Victorian womanhood. Anna Catherine “Kay” Kelly Gregg was born in 1920 in Dawson, West Virginia, to Aldridge James Kelly and Mary Leah Lowry. She was raised in Huntington, West Virginia, alongside her four siblings: James Thompson Kelly, Franklin C. Kelly, Bonna Kelly Paul, and Jeanette W. Kelly Scheerer. Kay enrolled at Marshall College in 1940 and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Teachers College on September 12, 1944.

This qualitative phenomenological study explored the experiences of Asian and Asian American women administrators’ career paths in U.S. higher education. The research fills a gap in the literature regarding the careers of Asian and Asian American women administrators. The recruitment process was completed between May 13 and July 9, 2024. Recruitment emails were sent to 25 potentially qualified participants, including a network of 17 people made up of mentors, professors, and colleagues, as well as eight professional associations and LinkedIn. This research explored digital marketing strategies for restaurants in the Braj region of Uttar Pradesh, India, using a mixed-methods approach over six months. It involved a representative sample of 25 restaurants selected through stratified random sampling to ensure diversity.

Quantitative data were collected via structured surveys assessing website presence, social media engagement, and online reviews, while qualitative insights were gathered through in-depth interviews and focus groups with restaurant owners and marketing managers.

This study investigates the impact of Braj regional cuisine on tourism development, utilizing a quantitative research methodology. The research aims to understand how Braj cuisine, deeply rooted in the region's cultural and historical context, influences tourism dynamics. A structured survey was administered to 520 respondents, including 400 tourists and 120 tourism stakeholders from key locations within the Braj region, such as Mathura and Vrindavan. The survey assessed participants' perceptions of Braj cuisine, its appeal, and its role in enhancing the tourism experience.
