Amanda Walsh is a Junior pursuing a dual degree in Marketing and Creative Writing. On campus, she is a member of two varsity athletic teams (Cross Country, Track and Field), two honors programs (University Honors program, Beta Gamma Sigma), two on-campus organizations (WQRI, Hawks Herald), and holds a job as a university Admissions Ambassador. Her piece is inspired by the story of her great-grandfather, who worked in the mining industry and passed away there during an accident.

I used to write extensively about my own personal troubles, there would be a message but it was intensely personal and based around a bad experience with a close friend. Parents Who Make America Great Again: Identity Politics In Right-Wing Populist Discourses On Gender Ideology And Immigration, Alina Hechler

This dissertation explores how anti-immigration and anti-(trans)gender campaigns in the United States engage in an identity politics in which a group benefiting from heteronormative, white supremacist, and nationalist social structures discursively positions itself as an oppressed minority facing an elitist, oppressive, and parasitic establishment. While anti-transgender and anti-immigration platforms represent two distinct issues, they need to be situated within the broader context of right-wing politics. With a focus on the construction of parenthood, my dissertation juxtaposes these two forms of right-wing campaigns through a mixed-method approach by tracing the depiction of two parental figures that have recently emerged in right-wing …

Locating The Archangel Saint Michael In Michelangelo Buonarroti’S The Creation Of Adam, Ana Vega

This thesis asserts that Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam contains an unrecognized interpretation of the Archangel Saint Michael, thereby enriching Leo Steinberg's foundational analysis of the fresco's theological intricacies. Building on Steinberg's identification of the "glider" figure as a possible visual allusion to Michael, this study contends that Michelangelo intentionally integrated the archangel to symbolize themes of divine protection, judgment, and cosmic justice. Employing a multidisciplinary approach, the thesis draws from a range of biblical and apocryphal texts, including Revelation and The Assumptions of Moses, to illustrate that Saint Michael's traditional roles, as the protector of paradise, defender of the …

How Pentecostals Living In The United States Experience, Interpret, And Respond To Depression, Robert Mcbain

The prevalence of depression in society underscores the need for awareness and support, particularly within Pentecostal communities, where depression remains underexplored. While studies suggest how the Christian context shapes depression, the literature lacks depth about the relationship between Pentecostalism and depression. This gap risks fostering misconceptions, marginalizing sufferers, and allowing dominant voices to impose stigmatizing interpretations that discourage external help and reinforce unrealistic norms. These repercussions emphasize the need to research the relationship between Pentecostalism and depression to address stigma, create supportive environments, and ensure that sufferers retain ownership of their mental health narratives. “You Shall Be As Gods”: Xenogears, Gnosticism, And Gaming On The Mystical Marketplace At The Turn Of The Millennium, Alexander Sutton

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This thesis explores the role of Christian Gnosticism in the Japanese role-playing video game (JRPG) Xenogears, developed by Square Co. Ltd. and released in Japan and the United States in 1998. In tracing its historical context, development, and localization I argue that Xenogears is an important text in the history of mediated religion in global popular culture. In comparing the game’s narrative against ancient Christian Gnostic texts such as The Apocryphon of John, The Reality of the Rulers, and the Gospel of Judas, I show how the game harmonized, mediated, and reproduced ancient Gnostic mysticism for its players to emulate. …

This is their first Poetry Walk, although they did have a poem displayed at the Roger Free Library in Bristol last spring. Carl Santino Zarcone is a first-generation law student at Roger Williams University School of Law (Class of 2027). As a former NCAA athlete and storyteller, he weaves together discipline, creativity, and the pursuit of justice. Previously, he worked in the entertainment industry with Angel Studios and Netflix. Poetry is another passion for Carl, whether on the field, in the courtroom, or on the page. Cassandra Bousquet, from Brisbane, CA, is the recent recipient of the Poetry Lighthouse Prize and received an Honorable Mention from the Ruth Weiss Foundation in their 2024 poetry contest. Her poem, “Dear Human at the Edge of Time” appears in the 2023 anthology of the same title, edited by Luisa A. Igloria, Aileen Cassinetto, and Jeremy S. Hoffman. In April 2023, she was a Writer-In-Residence at Bristol's own historic mansion and museum, Linden Place.

As I get older I am struck with these memories that would otherwise be lost, and find them again in a context of nostalgia.
