The Spread Of Buddhism During Ancient China, Emma Englehart
The Spread Of Buddhism During Ancient China, Emma Englehart
Senior Theses
Stories contain the power to be able to pull people in and engulf them with the teachings and enjoyment they possess. Storytelling is used in many different manners and one of those is through religion. It is through the telling of stories, and eventually the writing of them, that major religious beliefs have successfully spread to other parts of the world instead of staying in one place. Buddhism is one of the religions that is well-known and practiced by many because of the spread of its stories to other parts of the world, especially Asia. In ancient China, Buddhism flourished …

Performing Genders: A Study Of Gender Fluidity, Nicholas Jkmk Coney
Performing Genders: A Study Of Gender Fluidity, Nicholas Jkmk Coney
Senior Theses
The subjective quality of identity and the relativistic nature of gender bemuse and attract social scientists. In this study I combine both topics by examining gender fluidity – an inconsistent gender identity – within the framework of Western ontology. Within my informants’ narratives I identify what I term feelings of gender as feelings that influence how people perceive and interact with their bodies. Gender fluidity entails a constant yet inconsistent fluctuation of those feelings. Furthermore, I found other important elements that may have influenced my informants' understanding of their gender identities and bodies: upbringing, previous relationships and interactions, communities, and …
The Problem Of Informal Housing In The City Of Amara, Salah Mahdi Al-Ziyadi
The Problem Of Informal Housing In The City Of Amara, Salah Mahdi Al-Ziyadi
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
The problem of informal settlements is one of the most significant urban challenges facing developing countries. This is due to inadequate planning, coupled with high population growth rates, declining mortality rates, and increased rural-to-urban migration. These factors have led to millions of people settling in urban centers and their peripheries, areas that already suffer from a housing crisis. As a result, many people are forced to live in informal and unregulated settlements. In 2005, these informal settlements comprised 43% of the total population in these developing countries (a total of one billion people), while in Egypt, they accounted for 46% …
The Impact Of Cultural References On Shaping The Structure Of Islamic Painting, Shimaa Halim Nagi, Mahdi Abdul Amir
The Impact Of Cultural References On Shaping The Structure Of Islamic Painting, Shimaa Halim Nagi, Mahdi Abdul Amir
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
The current research dealt with (a) the impact of cultural references in shaping the structure of Islamic painting) through four chapters. The first chapter included the general framework of the research and in it the research problem was presented, which was defined by answering the following two questions: 1. Does the cultural heritage and references of Islamic countries have an impact on the diversity of the structure of Islamic painting? 2. And to what extent did this impact reach. Then the importance of the research, which came to contribute to clarifying the history and political events that accompanied the history …

Travel Ban In Domestic Laws Is An International Violation And A Constitutional Ban (Iraq As A Model), Nice Abdul Hussein Musa
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
Rights and freedoms are among the most important topics raised at the global, regional and local levels. Today, a state's civil, cultural and civilizational progress is measured by its respect for human rights, including the right to travel and movement. Therefore, this study will focus on this right according to successive Iraqi constitutions and the laws emanating from them, starting with the 1925 Constitution, passing through the constitutions of 1958, 1963, 1964, 1968, 1970, the 1990 draft constitution, and ending with the 2005 Constitution. There is a set of Iraqi laws that constitute an obstacle to citizens' enjoyment of the …
Critical Presence In Arabic Maqamat, Mohammed Fleih Hassan Al-Jubouri
Critical Presence In Arabic Maqamat, Mohammed Fleih Hassan Al-Jubouri
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
The maqamat represent a refined literary tradition and a unique art form that distinguishes Arabic literature. They emerged in the 4th century AH (10th century AD) with the works of al-Badi' al-Zaman al-Hamadhani and have remained vibrant and relevant to this day. The maqamat blend narrative storytelling with a highly ornate and sophisticated rhetorical style, employing various rhetorical devices. This emphasis on stylistic artistry is evident in al-Badi' al-Zaman's criticism of al-Jahiz, whom he criticized for his less polished style. The authors of maqamat were not detached from broader literary and cultural issues; rather, they actively engaged with them, particularly …

The Arab Critical Heritage Through The Book “Modern Literary Criticism” By Muhammad Ghanimi Hilal - A Reading Of The Vision And Methodology -, Alaa Mohsen Hassan Al-Hasani
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
In recent times, there has been a proliferation of Arabic critical studies that examine the nature of ancient Arabic heritage using scientific methodologies. This has resulted in a diversity of methodological approaches to studying heritage, as well as varying critical perspectives on it and its underlying concepts. Some scholars embrace and value this heritage, while others reject and dismiss it. Indeed, the issue of heritage remains a central intellectual debate throughout the history of what is termed "modern Arabic literature," particularly during the Arab Renaissance. The problem of how to engage with heritage has been a major concern for Arab …
