Diversity Of Depoliticization?, Bas Van Der Vossen
Philosophy Faculty Articles and Research
An ideologically homogeneous discipline of political psychology is a serious problem. But undoing the field's homogeneity may not suffice to address this problem. Instead, we should consider undoing the politicization.

Deification, Friendship, And Self-Knowledge, Matthew Hale
Deification, Friendship, And Self-Knowledge, Matthew Hale
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
How does human friendship contribute to the process of deification? In this thesis, I will argue that a kind of “spiritual friendship” contributes to the process of deification by placing the human agent in a better position for acquiring self-knowledge, and avoiding false beliefs or misunderstandings about the self. This acquisition of self-knowledge is an important part of the deification process, which involves not just a moral and ontological transformation, but an epistemological one as well.

Nietzsche Contra Wright: On Becoming What You Are, Jordan Rodgers
Nietzsche Contra Wright: On Becoming What You Are, Jordan Rodgers
Kaleidoscope
Robert Wright’s recent book on evolutionary psychology, The Moral Animal, is concerned largely with the ethical implications of recent evolutionary science, and espouses a form of utilitarianism as the ethical theory that should naturally follow evolutionary insights into human psychology. This paper challenges that notion, with constant reference to the work of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, on the basis that such an ethical theory places far too little emphasis on the individual as such, and is tantamount to a form of nihilism. This paper also argues that, while seeking for the happiness of other people is a good thing, our …

Writing Moonlight: An Analysis Of Beethoven’S Piano Sonata Opus 27 No. 2 In C Sharp Minor, Andrew L. Lynch
Kaleidoscope
An analysis of the first movement of one of Beethoven’s most popular sonatas, the Moonlight Sonata, by a chemical engineering major who is a relative outsider to music. Analysis proceeds systematically: line by line and stanza by stanza. The goal of this analysis is elucidation of Beethoven’s methods for producing the atmosphere of haunting desire which pervades the piece.

Men (n = 128; 46.3%) and women (n = 75; 33.7%) reported histories of GS. Group sex participation among men and women was associated with heroin and injection drug use, trading or selling sex, and sex while high, compared with no GS participation. Moreover, among men, GS was associated with buying sex and sex with an injection drug user; among women, GS was associated with substance dependence, a history of sexually …

Providing Objective Metrics Of Team Communication Skills Via Interpersonal Coordination Mechanisms, Celine De Looze, Brian Vaughan, Finnian Kelly, Alison Kay
Conference Papers
Being able to communicate efficiently has been acknowledged as a vital skill in many different domains. In particular, team communication skills are of key importance in the operation of complex machinery such as aircrafts, maritime vessels and such other, highly-specialized, civilian or military vehicles, as well as the performance of complex tasks in the medical domain. In this paper, we propose to use prosodic accommodation and turn- taking organisation to provide objective metrics of communica- tion skills. To do this, human-factors evaluations, via a coordi- nation Demand Analysis (CDA), were used in conjunction with a dynamic model of prosodic accommodation …
