Exploring Student Perceptions Of Faculty Messages: The Moderating Role Of Internationalized Status And Gender, Geoffrey Luurs, Ismail Karabas, Brittany Wood

Email is a tool used often for developing rapport between students and teachers. A professor’s email mistakes may affect the attributions students make about the professor’s competence and professionalism. This study used an experimental, between-subjects design to analyze the impact of professors’ typographical mistakes during initial email interactions and the moderating role of instructor demographics in those perceptions. The final sample consisted of 426 participants (64.6% female, 75.8% Caucasian) across eight universities representing five regions of the United States. The results of this study showed instructor’s email mistakes do lead to negative perceptions. Furthermore, it showed a professor’s internationalized status …

A Relational Approach To Workplace Leadership, Nathaniel J. Hunt

This research project examines relational leadership as an ethical and strategic foundation for fostering effective workplaces. Motivated by the growing importance of human connection in leadership, the study integrates philosophical insights, particularly Emmanuel Levinas’s ethics of the face of the Other, with empirical evidence on workplace relationship-building. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining a structured survey of 32 professionals with thematic analysis of qualitative responses. Results confirmed that strategies such as encouraging knowledge-sharing and cultivating positive relational climates significantly enhance employee well-being, psychological safety, and organizational performance. Knowledge-sharing emerged as the most effective strategy, while relationship-building was found to be …

Food Insecurity In Latin America: Climate Change, Industrial Agriculture, And The Case For Regenerative Solutions, Leila Hernandez-Webster

This study critically analyzes the nexus between climate change and food insecurity in Latin America, with a particular focus on Costa Rica’s agricultural sector. It interrogates how industrial agricultural practices, deforestation, and trade liberalization have contributed to environmental degradation and heightened socio-economic vulnerabilities, especially among smallholder farmers. Through the lens of political ecology, this research situates these dynamics within the broader context of neoliberal and neo-extractivist development paradigms, which have systematically eroded food sovereignty. This study also evaluates agro-ecological responses, particularly agroforestry, as viable strategies for promoting ecological resilience and socio-economic equity. The early 2010s produced animated kids shows such as Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and The Legend of Korra, which drew Generation Z because of elements like family, friendship, and self-introspection. This connection is strengthened by the Pandemic Skip Phenomenon: a time where young adult’s mental growth was stunted during COVID-19, leading to this generation looking for comfort in these nostalgic animated series’ to assist the transition into adulthood.

In modern states, law is often reduced to merely a tool of power. Many contemporary practices treat law as nothing more than a procedural requirement, disregarding its substantive values and the social conditions of society. This article discusses the validity of law within a political community from Habermas's perspective. According to him, the law must be discursive and stem from rational subjects capable of effective communication. IPHS 484: Senior Seminar

This study uses topic modeling to analyze over 17,000 English-language conversations from the WILDCHAT-FULL dataset, a large-scale collection of human-ChatGPT interactions. By applying Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) across 17 time-based segments spanning one year, the research identifies major themes and temporal shifts in user engagement. Creative writing emerged as the dominant topic category, accounting for nearly 40% of all identified topics. Subcategories such as character development, fight scenes, and sexual content offer further insight into how users creatively engage with ChatGPT. By combining large-scale topic modeling with close qualitative review, this study demonstrates a scalable yet nuanced approach to analyzing …

This research project examines creative writing outputs from five leading large language models (Claude 3.7 Sonnet, ChatGPT 4o, Grok 3, Gemini 2.5 Flash, and Deepseek R1) as they generate and respond to prompts focused on diverse identity experiences. By analyzing stories centered on immigrant, Black, LGBTQ+, transgender, and Indigenous experiences, I identify recurring patterns, tropes, and limitations across different AI systems. This study illuminates how algorithmic storytelling currently relies on a limited repertoire of narrative elements, raising important questions about the representation of diverse human experiences in AI-generated creative content and the potential impacts of these patterns as AI writing …

This disconnect can hinder effective training and optimization. PEAK addresses this gap by combining customizable performance analytics with real-time emotional insights via Hume's Empathic Voice Interface (EVI). Through natural voice interaction, PEAK correlates emotional expression with performance data, enabling personalized feedback and data-driven reflection. Pediatric rheumatology is an understudied and underprovided field in medicine. Currently, there are only 850 pediatric rheumatologists in the United States (1). This can make it incredibly difficult to get a diagnosis, since pediatric rheumatologic disorders are rare and thus easily missed. For example, eight states have no pediatric rheumatologists at all, and only 25% of children with arthritis are able to see a rheumatologist (2). Nursing has historically been associated with the spiritual. Referred to “anamcara,” a soul friend in Celtic writings (Groves & Klauser, 2005), nurses accompany those in need, and the ill, from birth to end-of-life. The purpose of this project was to increase awareness of nurses in the identification of patients’ Spiritual Distress, a NANDA diagnosis.

Mythic Arcana is part of my senior thesis show and the culmination of my writing and design journey at the college. It is a creative spin on the Major Arcana tarot deck and features mythological characters from around the world. Can Belief Be Compelled? Evidence From Salem, Stewart Justman

Global Humanities and Religions Faculty Publications

In his Letter Concerning Toleration Locke argues forcefully that belief cannot be compelled under any circumstances. I put this proposition to the test by examining false confessions extracted during the Salem witch-hunt only three years after Locke’s letter was translated into English. Evidence in the Salem records—in particular, a deposition signed by six accused witches—establishes that a number of confessors believed their own false narratives at the time they offered them. Of great psychological interest, these cases give us a sense of what the Salem hysteria felt like to those engulfed by it. They also invalidate Locke’s claim that belief …
