Lubiya (El-Khirbeh): A Late Hellenistic, Roman And Early Byzantine Village In Lower Galilee, Yardenna Alexandre, Michal Oren-Paskal, Gil Tsioni

Qadum: Journal of Excavation Reports from Israel

A small archaeological excavation carried out in 2005–2007 on a hilltop in the Lavi Forest in Lower Galilee uncovered a small area of the village of Lubiya that was settled in the Late Hellenistic to early Byzantine periods. The earliest exposed building complex was constructed on the bedrock and comprised parts of two residential units with a shared long wall, an internal courtyard and several rooms. An underground complex beneath the units comprised individual basement storage elements that were subsequently joined to form an underground hiding complex, dated by the associated finds to the time of the First Jewish Revolt …

In the process of this internship, I think I have learned a lot of things with conservation, but the biggest thing that this internship changed is my attitude toward objects. I am significantly more comfortable with historical objects now than when I started. I am now comfortable holding and handling objects without being overly cautious and paranoid.

This study employed qualitative methods to explore how the UVA in Valencia Summer Program 2019/ 2021 approached instructional practices (e.g., in-class and out-of-class immersive learning activities, homestays, pre-program services, including use of L2 and culture learning strategies) to identify those features of the program design that Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) could reproduce in a new short-term study abroad designed to expand its students’ oral proficiency and cultural awareness. The study used data from Zoom interviews with faculty, administrators, and L2 participating students. The country, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Virginia Community College System initiatives all promote generative AI within education. It is a topic of great concern and interest for higher education instructors, yet at the same time many faculty members feel uncertain about effectively integrating it into class material. To further add pressure to the AI explosion, community colleges particularly face a responsibility to prepare their students for success in this new AI-focused environment. The attitude towards the Protestant Church in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) changed overtime and was not homogenous during the approximately forty years of the GDR’s existence. This thesis will use this established cultural and historical context in order to analyze the representation of Christianity in the novel Einer trage des anderen Last, written by Wolfgang Held. The Grand Narratives: The Rise And Fall Of Universal Philosophical Systems, Gavin S. Litchford

This thesis reviews the development of narrative and systematic methods of argumentative legitimation in the Western tradition of philosophy from its conception until the present day. Utilizing both primary sources from central figures in key movements within this development process and supplementary secondary sources, this analysis notes which systems were used as appeals to higher authority and the trends in the adoption and transformation of new models. It is demonstrated that the Enlightenment era punctuated a progression begun in the premodern era from simple, cultural narratives to individualized, subjective, and self-perpetuating Grand Narrative systems, and that it generated the preconditions …

回族作家張承志以他傳奇的人生經歷串聯起北方大陸的三大文明板塊，也即拉鐵摩爾所謂的「中國的內陸亞洲邊疆」。中國北部邊疆具有鮮明的內亞特性，其兩大義項即是民族性和生態性，這正是張承志文學書寫的重要內容，而且承载著作家獨特的宗教信仰和政治理想，暗含著作家的歷史心結與時代之思。進言之，作為「人民之子」和毛主義者，張承志的內亞書寫反覆辯駁中國社會轉型和文明抉擇的大問題，包括他對毛時代與後毛時代、繼續革命與告別革命、大陸與海洋、鄉村與城市、第三世界與西方中心等方面的看法，這些暴露他學者功底的歷史思辨或溢於言表，或幽靈般地融入他的內亞書寫，呈現出一種「生態政治」（eco-politics）的理念和特色，表明其左翼立場和民族情結。職是之故，本文試圖借鑒生態批評和族群理論、中國西北學和海外內亞研究的資源，以地域、時代和共同體三個維度入手，分章依次討論張承志的北方大河、蒙古草原、黃土高原和新疆天山，探討這些生態符號和地理類型如何成爲不同中國（性）的定義方式，奠定張承志「超越内亞，尋路中國」的思想路徑，以及追問其生態政治和民族認同背後的儒回淵源。重讀張承志這樣神話不再、負典異端和冷僻敏感的老作家，有助於我們回首來時路，在紛繁世局和中西學術之間找尋定位，重思中國，既檢討傳統漢族中心、邊疆式的文學批評，也回應海外新清史和華語語系等歷史及文學研究的「族群轉向」。

The following screenplay and critical paper mold together into one comprehensive project. The historical context found in the critical paper informs the screenplay as much as the screenplay weaves its way into the critical paper’s autoethnography. For example, the unique section breaks throughout the critical paper were taken directly from my grandfather's letterheads that he used for his seasonal business letters.

Ultimately this thesis will examine how Mean Girls melodramas moralize gender and sexuality. The Mean Girl is not an embodiment of moral hegemony. She may look like the perfect subject, but she is imperfect, because she tries to be perfect. She is a failure of femininity, because her attempts to be feminine reveal the masquerade. Womaniliness is not inherent; it is not real. The Mean Girl is attractive to the sapphic spectator because she exposes the alienation and artifice of gender and heterosexuality. The stereotypical image of the Mean Girl is plastic perfection, but she is not.

In lieu of an abstract, here is an excerpt: Marriage in west Africa has played a central role in shaping aspects of society, and has evolved over time. While traditional heterosexual unions dominate discussions, a lesser-known but significant practice – woman-to-woman marriage – has existed for centuries. In my research, I examined this institution, which allows a woman to assume the role of a husband by marrying another woman. There’s evidence of woman-to-woman marriage in more than 40 societies across west Africa, including the Igbo of Nigeria, the Frafra of Ghana and the Dahomeans of present-day Benin.

The primary aim of this research is to contrast personal testimonies from birthing women in Cuba with the frequently boasted Cuban health statistics in order to illuminate important discrepancies existing between what is reported by the state versus the reality of individual experiences. Investigation into women’s personal testimonies of mistreatment within maternity homes and hospitals in Cuba will reveal significant disparities that exist within the socialist healthcare system that have otherwise gone unconsidered. In order to contextualize these lived experiences as products of problematic post-revolutionary ideologies, the political, economic, and social stakeholders in the Cuban healthcare system will be outlined. …

This thesis aims to demonstrate that relationships between students and nature can be improved through teaching young learners about music and bugs together, potentially leading to a greater overall love for and willingness to protect nature. The thesis features original teacher action research conducted over multiple weeks in a first grade classroom, with observations and data to support the efficacy of the methods discussed. This thesis analyzes literature that supports how increasing empathy toward bugs at a young age can have tangible benefits for the environment, how ecoliteracy as a framework is an effective means of teaching about nature, and …
