Counterculture, Ju-Jitsu And Emancipation Of Wood, Marcin WóJcik

Experiential Knowledge (EKSIG) Conference Series

This paper sets out to formulate the notion of material-oriented design in wood. In this respect I propose an alternative ontology, where the material is seen as an equal rights partner to the designer. Further, I contrast the constructivist and evolutionary types of management, where in the latter systems are produced with minimal waste and energy expense. I discuss the implications of the approach on an example of five experimental projects, including my own in more detail. I advance that material-oriented design challenges the established form-matter relationship, design process, our understanding of authorship and bears an environmentally friendly potential.

Materiality is the medium through which architecture engages most directly with its inhabitants, via their sensory and perceptual faculties. Current understandings of the physical traits, symbolic potential and poetic qualities of constructional materials benefit from earlier theoretical and empirical investigations. This article aims to discuss and explore how craft knowledge in the field of ceramics can be utilized through digital technologies. Based on a set of experiments, which led to the development of a computational system that negotiates between the movement of the designer’s hands and the 3d clay printing, we propose to leave thinking in diametric positions about technology and craft. This paper explores the relationship between potentially dynamic materials and textile structures for designing textiles with inherent changing qualities. Friends "For Good" - Wicked: A New Musical And The Idealization Of Friendship, Valerie Lynn Schrader

This rhetorical analysis explores the relationship between the two main characters, Elphaba and G(a)linda, in the musical Wicked through the interpersonal communication lens of friendship. This article focuses on the role that friendship plays in the musical and suggests that friendship is a relationship that can be stronger than romantic relationships. Through the application of Rawlins’ work on friendship to the relationship between Elphaba and G(a)linda, this analysis suggests that friendship is the most prominent relationship in Wicked. Wicked offers an im-portant message to theatre-goers: Friendship is something to be valued and cherished.

Following the September 11 terrorist attacks there were increased demands in America for patriotism. This attitude of hyper-patriotism, in accordance with the Bush Administration’s appropriation of the American civil religion, precluded many discursive possibilities for dissent. Yet there were some who still utilized the available outlets of public discourse to dissent from Bush Administration policies. Green Day’s 2004 song, “Jesus of Suburbia,” is just such an exemplary dissent discourse. What follows is divided into four sections. Theatre production is a collaborative creative activity. Recent theory and research into group creativity recognizes the relationships between individuals, groups, and the contexts in which creativity emerges. It also suggests that between the interactive creative processes of the collaborators and their work, the work itself becomes a kind of creative entity. The term "critical discourse" was not indigenous in China, and Liang Qichao and Wang Guowei were believed to bring it as a Kantian concept into Chinese knowledge and discourse system. But Liang gradually strayed from the neutral and rational Kantian concept to relate it with negative political nuance. As a product of author-reader communication, lyrical texts, like narrative texts, have internal narrative dynamics to push the narrative progression. The structure of the dynamics shows as the three relations of time, logic and space in the texts. These relations exist in the combination of events and development of plots in narrative texts, but in lyrical texts they show in different ways. The fusion of narrative dynamics and reader dynamics pushes the narrative progression and realizes the communications between the author and the reader. This paper takes classical Chinese lyrics as examples to illustrate the analysis.

Traditional distinction between the Southern and the Northern China's literature were made on historical specificities, while Liu Shipei in his pioneer essay in modern literary criticism "On the Difference between the Southern and the Northern China's Literature" took a theoretical perspective that viewed the distinction as an ahistorical literary framework a priori.
