This comparative study asserts the centrality of spirituality to literature that explores life in the African Diaspora. Specifically, it emphasizes the importance of spirituality both to the authors and to the lives of their characters in the novels Victoire, les saveurs et les mots (2006) by the Guadeloupian author Maryse Condé, Camwood at Crossroads (2007) by Nigerian author Femi Euba, and El color del verano (1991) by Cuban author Reinaldo Arenas. After 20 years of industrial practice, consumers now can shop for mass-customized apparel in various channels including websites and smart device applications (apps). Online apparel mass-customization (OAMC), which provides platforms and convenience for customers to communicate with retailers effectively, provides retailers with a growing opportunity in today’s evolving omni-channel environment. Meanwhile, product value and experiential value delivered to consumers will help increase customer satisfaction and lower the return rate. Studies of Central American varieties of Spanish, including the Spanish spoken in Honduras, are scarce and the present study represents one of the few attempts to investigate the sociolinguistics of Honduran Spanish in the United States. Pronominal uses of voseo, tuteo and ustedeo are analyzed and compared between two speech communities located in the Central District of Honduras and the Baton Rouge Metro Area in Louisiana. Besides, the study explores linguistic attitudes towards pronominal forms of address in both communities. In Idling Women: The Domestic Bildungsroman and the American City, 1830-1900, I explore urban narratives of female non-development. In city novels featuring female protagonists, there are two normative arcs of development: either women find new opportunities for marriage, work, and, in some cases, independence in the city, or they fall prey to threats of seduction, poverty, and even death. However, these two plotlines fail to accommodate stories of women who wait to develop, fail at it, or otherwise resist what might be considered character growth. This paper will argue that a proper evaluation of the epistemic status of another person in relation to oneself presupposes the possession of the relevant subset of intellectual virtues, referred to as “p-virtues” throughout the rest of the work. A summation of the claim I am making is as follows: If person S believes the claim P and S believes that another person, S1, believes the claim not- P, S knows (or has a justified belief about) the evidential value they have to accord to S1's disagreement "only if" S has p-virtues.

Compliance of human rights norms requires the application of pressure from a multitude of directions and levels. It takes individual advocacy, micro-system/organizational/community-level pressure, and macro-level pressure from other nation-states and international organizations and governance bodies. This MA study focuses on the mechanisms employed by the United Nations to monitor the compliance of signatory nation-states to the standards established in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), with particular focus on Canada. This thesis produced a branded cross‐media campaign for the UNI Recreation Services department. A brand, or visual identity, was needed to tie together all of the promotional materials being produced for Recreation Services. Before I created the brand, the department's materials did not have a consistent visual style, and each program within the department maintained its own materials. As a result, visitors who came to the department office often left with a handful of visually inconsistent printed materials. Additionally, print materials often needed to incorporate large areas of purple and gold in order to stay within guidelines set by University …

The current status of graded repertoire lists for trombonists is almost nonexistent. Selecting works for students can be difficult especially when you are unfamiliar with the large body of solo literature. I created a list of solo trombone works all graded with the same system in which students and teachers could utilize when selecting new pieces of music to perform. Teachers could more readily find new pieces for their students to study by using this grading scale. At the risk of oversimplification, the central concept for Luther was trust, and for Calvin it was obedience, but for the Evangelical Radicals it was discipleship. The Radicals agreed with the magisterial Reformers about justification by faith but they were not willing to stop there. Their concern was about what followed justification - character development, the ethical life, and where love predominates. They criticized bitterly contemporary Catholicism and Protestantism for their lack of emphasis on the regenerate life and love. Karlstadt, one of their leading theologian, while agreeing with Luther about God’s grace, felt Luther had not gone far enough. …

Linear, Narrative-Plot Development In The Song Of Songs—Part One, Richard M. Davidson

This article examines the linear, narrative-plot development in the Song of Songs. Evidence is first given supporting several hermeneutical presuppositions which underpin this study: (1) the unity of the Song, revealed especially in its exquisitely designed symmetrical literary macrostructure; (2) Solomonic authorship of the Song, written early in his reign while he was still monogamous; (3) King Solomon and Pharaoh’s daughter (Shulamit) as the couple in the Song; and (4) a literal (not allegorical) interpretation of the Song as human love poetry. On The Use And Development Of The Pentatonic Scale Through The Works Of Antonín Dvořák, Andrew W. Brinkman

Concepts related to style change have been discussed thoroughly by theorists such as Leonard Meyer and others. In the case of Czech scholar, Antonín Dvořák, this change relates directly to his pentatonic style. While many musicologists suggest that the composer's travels to the United States in the early 1890's had a profound effect on the birth of his pentatonic style, this thesis posits that Dvořák's pentatonicism is apparent from even his earliest works. In examining evidence of this pentatonicism it becomes clear that, for Dvořák, there are two types: thematic and cadential. Thematic pentatonicism arises from themes of works or …

Despite his celebrity status in the wizard community, Harry’s lack of familiarity with its culture, language, social structures, and institutions constantly causes him to question his competence and magical potential. Although most muggle teens will never deal with the challenges Harry confronts as he tries to sort out Quidditch from Slytherin and Hufflepuff on his first visit to Diagon Alley, they can empathize with Harry’s attempts to acculturate into the social, academic, and political norms of a very unfamiliar world. "The lack of organized historical and archival documentation regarding the pre-1900s Chinese placer miners in northeastern Washington has left the historical and archaeological records fragmented. Documentation of the Chinese placer mining activities in the region is poor, at best, and the scars left on the landscape by these miners are often inundated by the damming of the Columbia River (and other major waterways), or the sites are heavily eroded and damaged. For some time, scholars who study English identity formation in the literature produced between the Norman Conquest and the Hundred Years War have addressed the manifold ways English writers imagined and reconstructed the Anglo-Saxon past as a golden era free of the taint of foreign domination. I find the cultural memory of pre-Conquest England to be only a fraction of what constituted literary Englishness, and my research calls for a more nuanced description of English literary identity during the period in question. Las reflexiones de Marianne Hirsch (1997) sobre la función de las imágenes fotográficas en los procesos individuales y colectivos de indagación sobre el pasado han ocupado un papel destacado en estudios recientes sobre la experiencia dictatorial en la Argentina (Fortuny y Blejmar, 2011).
