We experimented with artificial intelligence (Al) to better understand its limitations, guiding principles, and ethical impacts in creative and academic research and writing. Our project's purpose was to explore if Al can only harm creative endeavors and should therefore remain separate from the arts. Our methodology involved prompting and re-prompting to compose a variety of texts, demonstrating that the use of Al for creative and academic works can involve critical thinking. This process included giving the Als broad-scope prompts and narrowing in on specific tasks with repetitive re-prompting. Purpose: The Astronaut's dialogue was intentionally written to highlight speech impairments, a challenge I have personally faced in my life. Growing up, I struggled with articulating certain speech sounds and found it disheartening that children's books rarely featured characters with speech disabilities. This book aims to provide comfort and visibility to children who face similar challenges.

According to data from the US Census Bureau (2023), the official poverty rate for those under 18 years of age was 16%, however when adjusted to 150% of the poverty line, it is estimated that about 26% of children are living in poverty. Data from the Center for Disease Control indicates that among these children living in poverty, 1 in 5 experiences a mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder (CDC, 2022). In addition to this, the American Psychological Association reports that children and teens in poverty are at a greater risk for below average academic achievement and behavioral problems (APA, 2024). …

Homelessness, as it is portrayed in American media (e.g. news, social media, films, television) is riddle with misinformation and stereotype application. These stereotypes place individual blame on those experiencing homelessness, claiming that they are drug addicts, violent, and not worthy of help. 61% of Americans have not researched homelessness on their own, meaning they solely depend on media for their information (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2024). Furthermore, research has provided evidence that this culturally dominant messaging impacts Americans’ level of empathy and willingness to support policies of care (e.g., Medicaid, food stamps, shelter services) (Johnson et al., 2009). This paper utilizes the frameworks, terms, and methodology used by David Chalmers in his recent book “Reality+”, along with ancient Chinese philosophers Zhuangzi and Mozi in order to make an argument for why we ought to believe that we are currently living in a simulation while at the same time withholding judgment on the metaphysical reality of whether or not we are currently living in a simulation. Scenes of expansive cotton fields and rotting Manor houses lined by moss covered oaks where strange fruit once hung induce an acute sense of horror from an audience familiar with these relics. The genre of “Southern Gothic” spans literature, film and music and is built on themes of cultural repression in the Southern United States. This tradition explores fears rooted in lingering memories of human enslavement and patriarchal domination. In a culture marked by racial violence and class oppression, evil is, often, identifiable by markers of wealth and white skin. Historical memories only exacerbate suffering. Pint-Sized Advisories is a game inspired by Nintendo's WarioWare series made for the ODU Serious Games Jam of Spring 2025, where it won 2nd place out of 11 entries overall, winning first in the "Fun Factor" category, while tying for first in "Rhetoric" and "Theme". The game covers themes of environmental friendliness on an individual level: within the story, an organization is making "micro-PSAs" to hold the attention spans of teenagers. This research dedicates attention to different examples of music and visual art that encompass contemporary San Diego-Tijuana border-integrated art. By employing a participant-observer approach with the music component and conducting plática-based interviews with all involved artists, this work underlines the vitality of the artworks’ manipulation of the U.S.-Mexico border wall and community as a driving force in the elaboration and growing influence of these projects and pieces. By analyzing how these works act as vehicles for response, light is also cast on greater matters that lie beyond the border zone: propagation of fear, anti-immigrant sentiment, and misinformed anxieties.

This research project explores connections between a moral injury framework and the recognition and mitigation of ethical stress and trauma experienced by ASL-English interpreters. I have employed strategies such as thick description, textual analysis, and a narrative synthesis of existing literature on moral injury and ethical stress in interpreting to arrive at my findings. The study explains Demand Control Schema (DCS) and the Code of Professional Conduct (CPC) as valuable tools for interpreters to discuss and address ethical stresses that arise in their work. Sincerely, is a personal study of how language is used to document and process past relationships. The work is my own experience with utilizing letter-writing to find closure with those whom the letters may never be sent. Through viewing the writing process and watching heartfelt messages write themselves out for none of the recipients to ever see, one can see how language and catharsis go hand in hand.

Science fiction (SF) films are typically some of the most popular movies that are released each year. They tend to be blockbuster phenomena, raking in millions or even billions of dollars. Examples of modern SF hits include Avatar (2009), which grossed $2,923,710,708 worldwide and Avengers: Endgame (2019), which grossed $2,799,439,100 worldwide (“Avatar”; “Avengers: Endgame”).
