St Therese Of Lisieux's Perception Of God, J Schneider
Theology Papers and Journal Articles
(i) The way her writing can inform us of how we come to view God
(ii) In this light, what might we learn from Thérèse today?
It is probably true to say that, at the level of 'popular' faith, Thérèse of Lisieux has been adopted by many as their 'go-to' person-in heaven. As such, she has been experienced as someone who bestowed special, even miraculous, favours—something she gave permission for in her lifetime. However, here we're not talking about a beyond-death Thérèse we might have personally experienced. The Thérèse I will speak about is from research, specifically with respect to …

'Yes!' And 'Thou' In Dag Hammarskjold's "Markings": A Theological Investigation, T Ryan
Theology Papers and Journal Articles
Hammarskjöld’s Markings combines the spiritual, theological and ethical. This article engages with the journal in four stages. First, it briefly introduces the text (context, translation and overall purpose). Second, I explore Hammarskjöld’s faith guided by two words: ‘Yes’- to explore key ideas on union, discipleship, the ‘beyond,’ religious language, his use of the medieval mystics and the influence of the apophatic and kataphatic traditions on his consciousness. Third, under ‘Thou,’ follows an examination of this word’s role in Hammarskjöld’s religious awareness and, also, of the journal’s convergences with other authors, such as Bernard Haring and Andrew Tallon’s analysis of Martin …

Truth, Justice, And The Common Good: Core Capstone Final Essay, Valentina De Santis (Class Of 2016)
Truth, Justice, And The Common Good: Core Capstone Final Essay, Valentina De Santis (Class Of 2016)
Writing Across the Curriculum
The course Truth, Justice, and the Common Good brought awareness to themes of the environment, common good, and social issues. Environmental justice is the involvement of the society to respect and care for environmental laws and regulations. It is a part of the common good to appreciate and respect the natural world. The common good is customized toward every individual and it is the decision of the human being to recognize the common good daily. From the readings and presentations in class, a correlation was formed between beliefs and values towards topics in religion, justice, and community.
The Fourth Chief Justice Of The United States, John Marshall, Meagan Schantz
The Fourth Chief Justice Of The United States, John Marshall, Meagan Schantz
Writing Across the Curriculum
The fourth Chief Justice of the United States, John Marshall (1755-1835), served thirty-four years (1801-1835) in the United States Supreme Court. During his term, Marshall established a stable foundation for the United States Judiciary, which in turn increased the role and scope of the federal government. Marshall’s life and achievements are documented in the biography, The Great Chief Justice: John Marshall and the Rule of Law by Charles F. Hobson, the editor of The Papers of John Marshall.

Bigger By The Dozens: The Prevalence Of Afro-Based Tradition In Battle Rap, Shingi Mavima
Journal of Hip Hop Studies
This paper interrogates the linguistic grounding of battle rap in Afro-based cultural practices, and the transformative power the understated art form possesses within the African American community. An integral part of hip-hop from the beginning, 'battling' has grown into a distinct subculture in recent years. Because of its oft-unmitigated rawness, it is often viewed as a lesser artistic form that embodies the worst of the violence, misogyny and other societal ills that hip-hop is accused of promoting. This paper argues that battle rap is not a corruption of Black culture: it is the modern incarnation of long-held oral, competitive, and …
