Rereading SōSeki: Three Early Twentieth-Century Japanese Novels, Reiko Abe Auestad

CEAS Reprint Series for Rare and Out of Print Publications

For the first project in the Council on East Asian Studies’s reprint series for rare and out of print publications, we are pleased to introduce an electronic republication of Rereading Sōseki: Three Early Twentieth-Century Japanese Novels, a very influential work from 1998 on the celebrated Japanese novelist Natsume Sōseki, written by Reiko Abe Auestad of the University of Oslo. J. Keith Vincent of Boston University has written a new introduction, and Auestad has provided a new preface as well as a bibliography of recent critical studies on Sōseki. We would like to thank John Whittier Treat for recommending this …

Talking About Impact: A Handbook For Pre-Tenure Humanists And Social Scientists, Stephen Chrisomalis

Anthropology Faculty Research Publications

A handbook outlining frameworks, concepts, and strategies that pre-tenure humanists and social scientists can employ when making the case for the impact of their scholarship. In place of the suite of metrics and approaches used to evaluate research in the natural and physical sciences, engineering and medicine, more suitable ways of producing verifiable, comprehensible material for the preparation of tenure and promotion files are demonstrated.

A Patchwork Family: The Struggle For Survival In Pölsler’S Austrian Movie Die Wand, Eckhard Rolz Jan 2016

A Patchwork Family: The Struggle For Survival In Pölsler’S Austrian Movie Die Wand, Eckhard Rolz

School of American and Global Studies Faculty Publications with a Focus on Modern Languages and Global Studies

The movie Die Wand (2013) was hugely successful in the German-speaking world and once dubbed, also in other countries. It is often described as a film depicting a woman living in utter isolation cut off from any social contact. I, however, argue that the protagonist, though she is without any human contact, creates a family-like order with the animals that have flocked to her. She is the dominant mother figure who takes care of her “children” and defends them when needed.

El Metro En El Teatro Y El Teatro En El Metro: Un Escenario Laberíntico De Múltiples Velocidades, Polly J. Hodge Jan 2016

El Metro En El Teatro Y El Teatro En El Metro: Un Escenario Laberíntico De Múltiples Velocidades, Polly J. Hodge

World Languages and Cultures Faculty Books and Book Chapters
