The Relationship Between Ethical Leadership And Sustainability In Small Businesses, David Amisano Jan 2017

The Relationship Between Ethical Leadership And Sustainability In Small Businesses, David Amisano

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Since the 2008 financial crisis, business leaders' ethical behaviors have been under scrutiny. These leaders face uncertainty regarding ethical leadership behaviors and their impact. Because small business leadership involves multiple facets of behavior and decision-making, small business leaders may have an insufficient understanding of the impact of ethical leadership behaviors on the sustainability of their businesses. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationship between ethical leadership and financial, social, and environmental sustainability in small businesses. Integrated social contracts theory was the theoretical framework. The participants consisted of 80 members of a chamber of commerce located in …

Welcome into my scientific lab! My lab[oratory] is a virtual facility with noncontrolled conditions in which I mostly perform scientific meditation and chats: a nest of ideas (nidus idearum, in Latin). I called the jottings herein scilogs (truncations of the words scientific, and gr. Λόγος – appealing rather to its original meanings "ground", "opinion", "expectation"), combining the welly of both science and informal (via internet) talks (in English, French, and Romanian). * In this third book of scilogs collected from my nest of ideas, one may find new and old questions and solutions, referring to topics on NEUTROSOPHY – email …

Khaled Hosseini, Keigo Higashino, And Zoe Ferraris: Social Concealment, Personal Revelation, And Community Guilt, John C. Hawley Jan 2017

Khaled Hosseini, Keigo Higashino, And Zoe Ferraris: Social Concealment, Personal Revelation, And Community Guilt, John C. Hawley

English

Detective novels, while generally considered to be pulp fiction and therefore worthy of less academic attention, nonetheless lay bare the reader’s interest in getting to the so-called truth. Even the inclusion of “red herrings” and false leads serves to entice a deeper commitment to proving the existence of what “really” happened. They are, therefore, escapist in the sense that they tease readers to reject the underpinnings of deconstruction and poststructuralism and allow, at least for the limited duration of the reading, a comforting illusion that there are larger truths that an actual “self” can discern and pin down. This need …

Mourning And Melancholy In Hisham Matar's In The Country Of Men And Anatomy Of A Disappearance, John C. Hawley Jan 2017

Mourning And Melancholy In Hisham Matar's In The Country Of Men And Anatomy Of A Disappearance, John C. Hawley

English

In a recent study of masculine identity in the fiction of the Arab East since 1967, Samira Aghacy analyzes those novels that "possess an underlying political awareness revealing the centrality of political life in the fiction of the Arab East and the precedence of collective over private issues" (Aghacy, 7). Hisham Matar, though, has chosen to work against the grain and to shrink the political down to the personal; politics remain almost unseen, ghost-like, something his protagonists cannot comprehend or fully see. 1 Muhammad Siddiq famously notes that "any writer can ill afford to remain uninvolved and merely watch history …

Perspectives On The Missiological Legacy Of Martin Luther And The Protestant Reformation, Richard L. Starcher, Philip C. Huber, J. Nelson Jennings, Benjamin L. Hartley, Stan Nussbaum, William R. Burrows

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Upon the occasion of the 500th anniversary Martin Luther’s publication of his 95 theses, this composite article brings together five perspectives on the missiological legacy of the reformer and the subsequent Protestant Reformation. The blend of voices makes clear that Luther and the subsequent Protestant Reformation do not have a simple missiological legacy but rather various legacies: theological, ecclesiological, political, and practical; some of which co-exist, and even collide, in the same ecclesiastical community. The scandalous legacy of a splintered and splintering church remains. Yet, demonstrations of mutual recognition, reciprocal respect, and genuine fellowship can be found in certain missiological …

Maimonides On Teshuvah: The Ways Of Repentance, Henry M. Abramson

Lander College of Arts and Sciences Books

Teshuvah: from the Hebrew root “to return” and often translated as “repentance,” teshuvah represents an answer to spiritual or intellectual challenge, just as a question requires a response and a home awaits a return. Maimonides on Teshuvah is a translation and commentary on The Ways of Repentance, the first comprehensive study of teshuvah in Jewish literary history.

This is the fifth edition of this work.

Torah From The Years Of Wrath 1939-1943: The Historical Context Of The Aish Kodesh, Henry M. Abramson

Lander College of Arts and Sciences Books

Discovered in the rubble of the Warsaw Ghetto, Rabbi Kalonymus Kalmish Shapira's wartime writings exemplify the faith of Hasidic Jewry under the unimaginable conditions of the Nazi occupation. Published in 1960 under the Hebrew title Aish Kodesh, the notes of Rabbi Shapira's weekly Sabbath sermons and annotations have been studied by pious Hasidim and secular academics alike, seeking his answers to the searing theological questions posed by the war. Why do the righteous suffer? Where was God during the Holocaust?

Torah from the Years of Wrath provides a new and essential scholarly contribution by placing Rabbi Shapira's writings in their …

Occupational Therapy And Physiotherapy Education And Workforce In Anglophone Sub-Saharan Africa Countries, Augustine O. Agho, Emmanuel John

Physical Therapy Faculty Articles and Research

Background: Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries are faced with the challenge of educating a critical mass of occupational therapists (OTs) and physiotherapists (PTs) to meet the growing demand for health and rehabilitation services. The World Federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT) and World Confederation of Physical Therapy (WCPT) have argued for the need of graduate-level training for OTs and PTs for decades. However, very few studies have been conducted to determine the availability of OT and PT training programs and practitioners in SSA countries.

Methods: Initial data were collected and compiled from an extensive literature search conducted using MEDLINE and …

Of A Healthy Constitution: Socialized Medicine Between The Triumphs Of Social Security And Medicare, Sarah D. Kim

Kaplan Senior Essay Prize for Use of Library Special Collections

In January 1937, Thomas Thacher, a former solicitor general of the United States under President Hoover, gave a talk at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Medicine. He attacked socialized medicine as a “fallacy” that would “blanket the country without regard to local conditions and individuals.” He also expressed doubts about the constitutionality of socialized medicine under the proposed system of compulsory health insurance, adding that states had no power to enforce funding for it. (Funding for such insurance would entail a sliding scale of costs between those in the upper and middle-income brackets, or to take money …

Journal of Letters

The article aims at studying characteristics of Pāli language in 53selected prayers uttered in the worship of significant Stupas and Buddha's images in 8provinces of Northern Thailand. It is found that the prayers, mostly written in prose with some particular styles, have a similar structure and similar components, showing the same thought and subject matter on which the prayers are based. Three special characteristics are found in the language. Firstly, Thai proper nouns are formed into Pāli by the methods in Pāli works ofNorthern Thailand. Secondly, use of gender, case, and number are often different from standard grammar. Thirdly, words …

The Problems Of Propositional Attitude Reports In Russellianism(ปัญหาของประโยครายงานสภาวะทางจิตในทัศนะแบบรัสเซลล์), Pailin Pinsum-Ang Jan 2017

The Problems Of Propositional Attitude Reports In Russellianism(ปัญหาของประโยครายงานสภาวะทางจิตในทัศนะแบบรัสเซลล์), Pailin Pinsum-Ang

Journal of Letters

Two basic principles of meaning: the principle of compositionality and the principle of substitution, and the direct-reference idea that the meaning of an expression is a particular object which is denoted generate the problem concerning meanings of propositional attitude report. Russellianism has suggested the notion of Guise and a distinction between the semantic content of a sentence and its pragmatic implication to explain the meaning of propositional attitude reports and to solve the problems but theirtheory still has shortcomings. This paper presents a way to understand propositional attitude reports which bases on two notions: the way of thinking about an …

Influence And Effectiveness In The Years Of Upheaval: Winston Lord And The Policy Planning Staff From 1973 To 1977, Max L.B. Cook

Harvey M. Applebaum ’59 Award

This two-semester senior essay submitted in completion of the History major at Yale University focuses broadly on the formation of U.S. long-term foreign policy in the Cold War period. More specifically, it analyzes the influence of the State Department’s Policy Planning Staff (S/P) and its Director Winston Lord (YC ’59) from 1973 to 1977 on the decision-making and policy formulation of Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. In this period, the S/P took the lead on cross-agency issues, linked operational policy decisions with established long-term U.S. strategic principles, and in some issue areas directly defined U.S. policy on behalf of Secretary …

The Life Of Donald Mcgavran: Becoming A Professor, Gary L. Mcintosh Jan 2017

The Life Of Donald Mcgavran: Becoming A Professor, Gary L. Mcintosh

Great Commission Research Journal

As McGavran’s missionary career in India came to an end, publication of The Bridges of God opened new doors for research, teaching, and writing. The years 1955–1965 found McGavran moving from a missionary career to that of a professor and founding The Institute of Church Growth. In Eugene, Oregon, he met and befriended Methodist missionary Alan R. Tippett who became a partner in the spread of Church Growth Thought during the 1960s and 70s.

Conflict In The Small- And Medium-Sized Church, William D. Henard Jan 2017

Conflict In The Small- And Medium-Sized Church, William D. Henard

Great Commission Research Journal

One of the most difficult aspects of dealing with any church is conflict. Because of humanity’s fallen nature and because of the difficulty of initiating and accepting change, conflict is almost always inevitable. Conflict becomes detrimental when it is not handled correctly or when it remains unchecked and finds its source deep within the sinful nature and motives of people. Conflict in the church, though, does not necessarily have to be destructive. Many of those within the church reconciliatory ministry say that conflict is essentially neutral. When handled properly, it can actually result in some positive benefits for the church.

Preparing To Multiply: Four Steps For Established Churches, Joey Chen Jan 2017

Preparing To Multiply: Four Steps For Established Churches, Joey Chen

Great Commission Research Journal

How should a leader of an established church lead the church to multiply? With the increased attention to church planting, there are more resources available, but little attention is given to the established church. This article seeks to help the leader of an established church prepare to engage in multiplication. While strategy, best practices, and finances are vital components to church multiplication, the crucial starting point for an established church leader is to prepare. There are four places to look while in the preparation stage: inward, upward, outward, and around.
