This research is an explorative study into the user expectations of interpreters in the domains of Patent Litigation, Public Health, and Cultural Heritage in Thailand. The study attempts to determine the importance of the accurate interpretation of terms in these highly-specialized fields with specific technical (in the case of court and medical interpreting) and cultural terminology. The researcher also attempts to identify user preferences for extra-linguistic features in interpreters. Results show that participants rated the delivery of the key message as higher priority than the translation of terminology. สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษาทฤษฎีการแปลและแนวทางการแปลวรรณกรรม เพื่อถ่ายทอดวัจนลีลาของตัวละครเอกในเรื่อง Room ของเอ็มมา โดโนฮิว ผู้วิจัยมีจุดประสงค์ที่จะถ่ายทอดบทแปลที่มีสมมูลภาพทางความหมายและอรรถรสเทียบเคียงกับต้นฉบับ และหาวิธีการแก้ไขปัญหาการแปลลักษณะภาษาและวัจนลีลาที่ผิดแปร่ง ซึ่งเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของตัวละครเอกในเรื่อง จากการศึกษาครั้งนี้พบว่า แนวทางการวิเคราะห์ตัวบทของคริสติอาเน นอร์ด และแนวทางการวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบนวนิยายของ คาร์ล เอ็ม ทอมลินสัน และแครอล ลินช์-บราวน์ ช่วยให้ผู้วิจัยสามารถวิเคราะห์ตัวบทต้นฉบับได้ละเอียดและครบถ้วนมากยิ่งขึ้น ทำให้ผู้วิจัยเข้าใจสารที่ผู้ส่งสารต้องการสื่อก่อนทำการถ่ายทอดไปสู่บทแปลในภาษาปลายทาง แนวทางการแปลแบบตีความของฌอง เดอลีล ช่วยให้ผู้วิจัยเข้าใจความหมายที่แท้จริงในวาทกรรมนั้นๆ ซึ่งทำให้ถ่ายทอดความหมายได้อย่างถูกต้องและเหมาะสม นอกจากนี้ยังมีความสำคัญมากในการตรวจสอบบทแปล ทฤษฎีพัฒนาการทางสติปัญญา ของ ชอง เพียเจต์ ในขั้นก่อนปฏิบัติการคิด ของเด็กตั้งแต่อายุ 2-7 ปี ช่วยให้ผู้วิจัยเข้าใจสภาพอปกติของตัวละครที่สื่อออกมาผ่านทางภาษาและลักษณะความคิด ซึ่งช่วยในการถ่ายทอดลักษณะนั้นๆ เป็นภาษาปลายทางได้เหมาะสมยิ่งขึ้น และทฤษฎีวัจนลีลาของ อมรา ประสิทธิ์รัฐสินธุ์ ช่วยให้ผู้วิจัยถ่ายทอดอรรถรสและความหมายของบทแปลให้เทียบเคียงและมีสมมูลภาพกับต้นฉบับมากที่สุด ซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นว่า ความรู้ แนวทาง และทฤษฎีข้างต้น เป็นปัจจัยที่สำคัญมากในการสร้างงานแปลที่มีคุณภาพมากที่สุดและตรงตามวัตถุประสงค์ที่ผู้วิจัยตั้งไว้

This study examined African American students' perceptions of and experiences with police officers with particular emphasis on campus police in order to determine whether these perceptions and experiences could impact their college experience. Participants were seven African American students from urban areas who attended a midsize university in the rural Midwest during the fall 2017 semester, and who had some interaction with law enforcement. Data was collected from one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Starting as early as primary grades students are to analyze multiple texts on the same historical topic. Student's reading levels vary; consequently, trade books can be used to reach each individual child. Due to this, trade book usage has increased. The purpose of this study is to investigate the space where readers and texts interact. By applying non-Euclidean geometry to the modern subgenre of science fiction known as steampunk, we can see that narratives have no intrinsic geometry. Instead, what we can understand is that readers unflatten inherently flat narratives by applying their own metric of understanding to a narrative. Steampunk acts a primer to considering this mathematical process by explicitly flattening its settings and characters, as well as the historical accounts founding the narrative. This study explores how a digital music archive tells the story and contributes to the public memory of cult bands. Utilizing the Grateful Dead Archive Online (GDAO) as the primary data source, the researcher obtained a population of 26,835 items and categorized them by the production method of fan or band, item type, era, and logo. Content analysis illustrated themes within the archive in relation to the fannish production and activity within the fandom of the Grateful Dead. "Incarcerated, Transported, and Bound: Constructing Community among Convicts Transported from London to the Chesapeake, 1739-1776" explores the movement, migration, the malleability of identities, and development of communal ties among transported convicts. This thesis utilizes information on more than 3000 convicts brought to the colonial Chesapeake region. Precise details are currently available for more than two hundred transported convicts. In many cases the convicts can be followed from their birthplace to London to their trial and imprisonment, continuing to their transportation to the Americas, their new lives in the Chesapeake, and, in some cases, their flight and return to Great Britain. …

This study examined the portrayal of female characters in selected texts from the Young Adult Library Association's 2016 Great Graphic Novels for Teens list. Appearances, conversations, and behaviors of preteen and teenage female primary characters were coded. Results indicate that progress is being made in the portrayal of female characters in graphic novels. Diversity in appearances, relatable conversations, and a break from stereotypical behaviors have led to more complex characters that provide readers with better role models. While some stereotypical conventions remain, the progress indicates a positive change for all readers.

Special populations are defined as a population that has been assigned a label for the sake of educational interventions; in this case, special populations refer to thirteen categories of disability as well as English Language Learners. In my artwork, I merge nature with typography. I use macro-level photography to capture details of nature, such as the pistils of a flower or the sensory hairs of an insect. I print enlargements and transfer these photos onto pages of poetic text about nature, or collage them onto canvas. Once transferred, I use multiple media to alter and enhance features of the photos. I intentionally obscure much of the text which allows me to place focus on the overall layout and design. The arrangement of lines of text and spacing of words is used to create a visual rhythm. …

Christian eco-theology, a maturing subfield in the area of religion and ecology, was born as a response to the historian Lynn White, Jr.'s suggestion that "we shall continue to have a worsening ecological crisis until we reject the Christian axiom that nature has no reason for existence save to serve man." Whether this claim is in fact axiomatic for Christianity is certainly debatable; nonetheless, many eco-theologians today agree that White was onto something.
