A new variety of empirical skeptical moral arguments have been put forward in recent years, drawing on data from neuroscience, social and behavioral psychology, and economics, which strongly suggest that emotions play a central causal role in moral judgment, and that reasoning has at most a limited supplementary causal role in small portion of moral judgments. It follows from these empirical finding, it is argued, that moral judgments and morality more generally cannot be grounded in reason in the right sort of way to be rational. Recent epistemology has focused almost exclusively on propositional knowledge. This paper considers an underexplored area of epistemology, namely knowledge of persons: if propositional knowledge is a state of mind, consisting in a subject's attitude to a (true) proposition, the account developed here thinks of interpersonal knowledge as a state of minds, involving a subject's attitude to another (existing) subject. This kind of knowledge is distinct from propositional knowledge, but it exhibits a gradability characteristic of context-sensitivity, and admits of shifty thresholds. World War II brought about many changes for the United States. Colleges and Universities had to deal with this change just as any other individual or organization did during the war. This paper looks specifically at how the war impacted Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Using the Selective Service and Training Act of 1940, this paper shows the steps taken by Augustana's president, Conrad Bergendoff, to combat the school's declining student population. It emphasizes the school's reliance on its traditional values for spiritual guidance as well as showing the proactive steps taken by Bergendoff and the Augustana community to …

During the 2017-2018 academic year, I led a collaborative interdisciplinary project to develop a historical fiction video game focused on the Swedish immigration story. With bristling debates over modern immigration in national and international politics, it seems more important than ever for us to look to history to understand the immigrant experience, both at a personal level (immigrants' lives and stories), and at a broader cultural and economic level to understand the impact they have had on our nation, and that our nation has had on them.
