Witch’S Song: Morality, Name-Calling And Poetic Authority In The Argonautica, Jessica Blum

Modern & Classical Languages Faculty Publications

This paper focuses on the interaction of Roman moral discourse and autonomous female voices in the Argonautica and Ovid’s Heroides. It argues that Valerius’ heroines use the moral language of the Heroides to reflect on the function of traditional language. By assigning culturally encoded roles to themselves and one another, these heroines present the audience with alternative versions of their stories that undermine the very terms they employ: they thus enact the problems inherent in using the language of the past to interpret the present. The cultural vocabulary that authorizes their voices to an internal audience presents a serious threat …

A Dialogue On Disaster: Antichrists In Jewish And Christian Apocalypses And Their Medieval Recensions, Natalie Latteri

This paper examines textual and iconographic representations of antichrist personae in medieval Christian and Jewish manuscripts. Through a common language of polemics, Christians and Jews conflated antichrist personae to represent a more generalized category of apocalyptic antagonist that reflected the most significant temptations and threats to each respective religious community. As will be argued here, the greatest temptation and threat for Christians and Jews alike were those posed by members of the other religious group

Making The Invisible Visible: The Presence Of Older Women Artists In Early Modern Artistic Biography, Julia K. Dabbs

One intention of this chapter is to reverse the current misapprehension of the longevity of early modern women artists, and render these “invisible” elder women creators more visible. Yet in addition, I will consider how the woman artist was characterized by her biographer in old age, and provide some comparison with literary tropes associated with elder male artists of the period, to see to what extent gender may have factored into cultural perceptions and attitudes towards old age.

Founded in 1926, it has primarily served the congregations of the Swedish Mission Covenant (now Evangelical Covenant Church), and represents the broader revival movements that produced that denomination in the nineteenth century. The story of this camp is also part of the history of the Christian camping movement that developed throughout the twentieth century in the United States and Canada. Department of Family Therapy Dissertations and Applied Clinical Projects

The relationship between the therapist and the client is an important consideration for most models of therapy, with all models of therapy emphasizing the importance of establishing a positive therapeutic relationship. Quantitative and qualitative studies have shown that the relationship between the therapist and the client is a predictor of positive outcomes. However, different models define the preferred therapeutic relationship differently. This study was a qualitative exploration of a decentered and influential position of the therapist in narrative therapy. In 1993 I married my high school sweetheart and we began adding to our family with our first child a couple of years later. Over the last 22 years, our 4 children are amazingly different from one another and from ourselves. Yet, with all those differences, similarities abound. We share mannerisms, memories, experiences, habits, personalities, and physical traits. This short series explores family. Our ‘sameness’ makes us comfortable with one another while our diversity of personalities refreshes our senses and offers surprise – and sometimes, conflict. We are a fabric tightly woven together whether we like it or not.
