Poor Little Rich Girl, What Does She Know About Misery? : The Significance And Symbolism Of Rose In James Cameron's Titanic, Matthew Levine
Poor Little Rich Girl, What Does She Know About Misery? : The Significance And Symbolism Of Rose In James Cameron's Titanic, Matthew Levine
Pell Scholars and Senior Theses
This thesis draws attention to and analyzes the various choices made by James Cameron for the characterization of Rose in Titanic, which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. While many scholars have defined the hidden meaning behind other directorial aspects, this thesis will take a more interpretive approach in connecting Rose's character journey to her changing appearance on screen, her character defining actions and words, and her overall relationship with Jack. Rose reveals herself as a strong, modern woman throughout the film, and serves as an example of how costume design and dialogue and action mirrors the personal growth of …
@Ctress To @Ctivist: Sophia Bush's Activism & Self-Branding Through Twitter, Katie Persechino
@Ctress To @Ctivist: Sophia Bush's Activism & Self-Branding Through Twitter, Katie Persechino
Pell Scholars and Senior Theses
This study analyzes actress Sophia Bush s Twitter account in terms of activism and self-branding, as she tweets out daily to millions of followers. While scholars have studied social media use for other celebrities in terms of self-branding, none have looked at the celebrity use of social media for activism. One hundred tweets from Bush s Twitter page are randomly selected and categorized in order to determine what kind of social media presence Bush creates. It is concluded that Bush s brand goes beyond her profession of an actress and includes her activist Twitter presence to where her title becomes …

The Madwoman Persists: Expression As Resistance In Emily Holmes Coleman's The Shutter Of Snow And H.D.'S Hermione, Spring Healy
The Madwoman Persists: Expression As Resistance In Emily Holmes Coleman's The Shutter Of Snow And H.D.'S Hermione, Spring Healy
Honors Projects
Emily Holmes Coleman’s The Shutter of Snow and H.D.’s HERmione each feature a female narrator struggling to survive in a patriarchal society that confines them and polices the movement of their bodies through space in attempt to gain control. The characters Marthe Gail and Hermione Gart experience bouts of insanity in response to their confinement by the patriarchy. I explore the various ways these two women push against their confinement, and argue that despite their places in society, Marthe and Hermione are able to use expression—writing, language, voice, movement, sexuality—to successfully resist the patriarchy and create legitimate identities.

Eschatological Pneumatology As A Theological Framework For Evaluating The Pneumatology Of The International Church Of God’S Grace In Brazil, Gerson Linden
Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation
Linden, Gerson, L. “Eschatological Pneumatology as a Theological Framework for Evaluating the Pneumatology of the International Church of God’s Grace in Brazil.” Ph.D. diss., Concordia Seminary, 2017. 238 pp.
The purpose of this dissertation was to understand the phenomenon of Neopentecostalism in Brazil, particularly as seen in the International Church of God’s Grace (ICGG), a large and well-known Denomination in Brazil, with communities in several countries in the world. This Denomination may be seen as part of a larger movement, as an expression of what has been called the third wave of Pentecostalism. On the other hand, the ICGG has …
Scenic Design For "The Metal Children", Joseph Bryan Farley
Scenic Design For "The Metal Children", Joseph Bryan Farley
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
A scenic design for the play “The Metal Children” by Adam Rapp was created and performed by the steps of the design process used in the design program at the University of Arkansas Department of Theatre. The Metal Children presents itself as a multi-unit set. With a script that introduces five different locations, one begins to question how we move forward with every different scene fluidly and in a quick scene shift time. When beginning the design process, I had to look at the show as if it were a musical with multiple scenic pieces that would fly in and …

“Woman, Awake!”: How Lds Doctrine On The Fall And The Practice Of Polygamy Created A Suffragist Culture In Nineteenth-Century Mormonism, Sarah Dunn
AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
This paper addresses the question of why Mormon (LDS) women in Utah were so involved in the women’s suffrage movement of the late nineteenth century. This paper explores how two factors in particular—the LDS doctrine concerning Eve and the practice of polygamy—gave those of the LDS community a perspective on women’s role in society that empowered women rather than suppressed them. This empowering perspective on the role of women in society both diverted from the widely-followed protestant traditions of the time and closely paralleled the beliefs and ideologies of the women’s suffragists. With a perspective on women’s role in society …
