However, autonomy in the aquatic environment is still limited, due to difficulty in testing and unavailability of realistic simulation environments.

A Cultural Pluralistic Reading On The Afro- And Chinese-Cuban Communities In Memorias De Una Cubanita Que Nació Con El Siglo (1964), Francisco Chen-López

This article deploys the cultural pluralism theory, which focuses on how minoritized groups integrate while preserving their cultural identities instead of assimilating into the dominant culture. In her memoir, Renée Méndez Capote describes how Black and Chinese people coexisted in twentieth-century Cuba while maintaining their own cultural identities and were in the process of integrating into the definition of the cubanidad. Via this theoretical framework, this research provides a different approach to studying the literary representation of Afro-Asian relationships in Cuba, aiming to contribute to the constantly growing field of Afro-Asian studies in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Cristina García’s third novel, Monkey Hunting (2003), is a sweeping multigenerational family saga that surveys the history of Asian and African diasporas in the Americas and the impact of coerced, racialized labor and migrations. Futurismo Cósmico: Sonic Dislocation Under The Fifth Sun, Rodrigo Martínez Torres

Futurismo Cósmico is a text in which I tune into the interstices of my sonic practice: popular musical styles, alternative tuning systems, and different, contrasting epochs of my experience as Mexicano and Latino. I discuss three projects of mine that engage with sound, time, and space in different ways. The journey concludes by looking at my practice in the context of a culturally dislocated space I inhabit, in my own psyche. However, understanding that I am a social being, this same practice is what provides a drive and a sense of purpose in an otherwise loosely articulated identity.

Abstract

Sub Terra is an immersive exhibition that renders intangible states of mind through sculptural installation. These constructions speak to internalized angst and complexity, mirroring what is seldom looked at, witnessed, or acknowledged. Many symbolic elements are suspended from either the walls and ceiling or within constructed frames, evoking entanglement. My work is an attempt to express the emotion turmoil inherent to living in an increasingly bureaucratic society and its effect on someone with an anxiety disorder.

In 1787, a Constitutional Convention was convened to revise the weak Articles of Confederation. However, the delegates at this convention ended up creating an entirely new system of government—that is one with a much more powerful structure of federal power. This paper examines the influence of the French philosopher Baron de Montesquieu on this process and the creation of early U.S. political culture. While previous academic scholarship has acknowledged Montesquieu’s influence on this process of writing the Constitution, this paper seeks to explore further the specific ways his influence shows itself in the U.S. Constitution and the creation of U.S. …

Histories of design pay scant attention to the corded telephone, which played an immeasurable role in early communication. Although the Bell System, with many Nobel Prizes, is justly acknowledged for its technical prowess, it should also be recognized for its early and considerable impact on the developing discipline of industrial design. In 1930, young Henry Dreyfuss, who would later become known as a pioneer of industrial design, was retained by the Bell System as a design consultant and matured in that environment. This study bridges the gap between vocal performance degrees and the opera industry by identifying the vocal techniques that may improve a singer’s likelihood of acceptance into an apprentice program. This qualitative, phenomenological study examines how autistic women characterize and interpret their experiences, beliefs, and self-perceptions within the framework of the neurodiversity paradigm. Guided by a social constructivist epistemology, this study explores the complex intersections between autistic women’s experiences of diagnostic processes, gendered socialization, and identity formation in autistic women. Through semi-structured interviews with ten autistic women, themes emerged around gender differences between autistic men and women, external versus internal self-perception, diagnostic age and self-perception, sensory overload and its consequences, and the journey from feeling othered to finding one’s place socially.
