The reversal of roles reflects the ability to negotiate with the dominant power. Despite this, women have the ability to challenge male power; however, in their efforts to do so and their given roles, women are eradicated from …

Male And Female Portraits In Russian Proverbs: Status Of Husbands And Wives, Parit Aroonoast Jun 2025

Male And Female Portraits In Russian Proverbs: Status Of Husbands And Wives, Parit Aroonoast

Journal of Letters

This research article studied the portrayal of husbands and wives in Russian proverbs to analyze the thoughts and beliefs of Russians on gender roles from Christian perspectives and the concept of hegemonic masculinity. Data was collected from Vladimir Dal’s “Proverbs of the Russian People” (1879), one of the largest collections of Russian proverbs. The literature indicates that Russian proverbs tend to be misogynistic, reflecting societal domination by hegemonic masculinity. Men were seen as leaders before the adoption of Christianity in Russia, but Russian proverbs influenced by Christian teachings imply that hegemonic masculinity opposes biblical teachings. Despite different spousal responsibilities, the …

Pretty And Problematic: The Use Of Music In Guadagnino's 'Call Me By Your Name', Brandon L. Foskett Jun 2025

Pretty And Problematic: The Use Of Music In Guadagnino's 'Call Me By Your Name', Brandon L. Foskett

Deliberately Queer Journal

Tension in the reception of the American-Italian film Call Me by Your Name (dir. Guadagnino, 2017)—as a beautiful film that implicitly condones a problematic narrative—is shaped in part by its compilation soundtrack. Already lauded as a timeless masterpiece in cinematography, sensuality, and music, the film also receives steadfast criticism regarding its portrayal of homosexuality and alleged condoning of interage desire between Elio, a 17-year-old Italian-French boy, and Oliver, a 24-year-old American man. In this paper, I analyze five musical episodes from the film, including The Psychedelic Furs’ “Love My Way,” Ravel’s Une barque sur l’océan, and Sufjan Stevens’s “Mystery …

Irony In Luke's Gospel: Christological Revelation, God's Superior Kingdom, And A Charismatic Theology Of The Spirit, Todd Boulware Jun 2025

Irony In Luke's Gospel: Christological Revelation, God's Superior Kingdom, And A Charismatic Theology Of The Spirit, Todd Boulware

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation considers Luke’s use of irony as a strategy of theological significance—a topic not often thoroughly analyzed throughout the history of Lukan scholarship even though many scholars have noted Luke’s narrative artistry. Prior inquiries have acknowledged Luke’s use of irony and other figures of speech, but comprehensive analysis of irony as a theological motif remains largely unaddressed. This is striking since Luke uses irony throughout, starting in Luke 1 and continuing through Luke 24. In this study, narrative and rhetorical critical analysis of the Third Gospel demonstrates that Luke uses the device of irony strategically for his primary theological …

Aristotle On Household, Polis And Regime, Chutidech Metheechutikul

Journal of Letters

This article studies the work of Aristotle, Politics, to indicate the relationship among household, polis and regime. The article finds that, the article finds that polis links to the idea of household in the sense that household can represent the status of the polis in terms of wealth and the question of is the regime a good one? For this, household, polis and regime are related like a chain regarding how the smallest unit affects the bigger units which mean house, village, city, and then polis. On the other hand, household can be good or not, depending on how …

Dice: An Examination Of Online Dating And Neuroqueer Identity In New Girl, Ashley D. Steele Jun 2025

Dice: An Examination Of Online Dating And Neuroqueer Identity In New Girl, Ashley D. Steele

Deliberately Queer Journal

This paper explores the representation of neurodiversity in popular media, with a specific focus on the television show New Girl. Through a critical analysis of Season 4, Episode 2 ("Dice"), I examine the episode alongside academic and online discussions surrounding female Autistic representation, dating while neurodivergent, and how the character Jessica Day (played by Zooey Deschanel) is often interpreted as Autistic by fan communities. The analysis highlights the pressure on Autistic individuals—both fictional and real—to adopt neurotypical behaviors for the comfort of others, particularly in online dating contexts. I also explore the importance of fan-created content in shaping conversations …

In Transit: Being Non-Binary In A World Of Dichotomies (Review), Kennan Dykstra Jun 2025

In Transit: Being Non-Binary In A World Of Dichotomies (Review), Kennan Dykstra

Deliberately Queer Journal

In Transit: Being Non-Binary in a World of Dichotomies is a book written by Dex Anderson that explores what it is to be gender nonconformant. With a specific look at the nonbinary experience, the author deconstructs binary ideas about gender through discussions of their own experiences, LGBTQ+ history, and media representation. This review encapsulates the content and structure of Anderson’s book, chapter-by-chapter, to analyze how well it communicates the importance of nonbinary and transgender visibility. This review also examines how well it communicates to the intended audience—not those who are unsympathetic to gender non-conformant identities but those who are newly …

Teaching Word Combinations Using Matrix Training Via Serious Gaming In Minimally Verbal Children, Nataly Innamorato

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation addresses the communication challenges faced by minimally verbal children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), often limited to one-word expressions. The approach used involves gamifying matrix training, an empirically supported method for teaching word combinations and promoting the generalization of language skills. Across three studies, the development of an instructional game is described and evaluated with two populations, typically developing children and children who are minimally verbal. First, it introduces a gamified application of matrix training that provides training in an interactive digital environment. Second, a proof-of-concept was obtained via a multiple baseline across participants with typically …

Healthy Bodies, Moral Minds, And Rural Ideals: Contextualizing Interwar British Childhood And Citizenship Through Children's Country Holidays Fund Vacations, Paula J. Pack Jun 2025

Healthy Bodies, Moral Minds, And Rural Ideals: Contextualizing Interwar British Childhood And Citizenship Through Children's Country Holidays Fund Vacations, Paula J. Pack

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation uses the Children’s Country Holidays Fund (CCHF) as a critical lens to examine how philanthropy, childhood, class, public health, and rural nostalgia intersected within the broader context of citizen formation in interwar Britain. Founded in 1884 to provide country holidays for poor London schoolchildren, the CCHF evolved from a philanthropic response to Victorian slum life into an informal arm of welfare governance by the end of the interwar period. Through its country holidays, the Fund became an active participant in shaping ideals of health, morality, and civic responsibility in a period marked by heightened concern over national vitality …

A More Robust Ethics: The Weakness And Theistic Dependence Of Godless Normative Realism, Micah Andrew Pycraft Jun 2025

A More Robust Ethics: The Weakness And Theistic Dependence Of Godless Normative Realism, Micah Andrew Pycraft

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation is centered on the metaethics and moral ontology of Erik Wielenberg. The central task of the dissertation is to examine Wielenberg’s metaethical view termed “Godless Normative Realism” and ascertain the ontological implications therein. I contend that Wielenberg’s moral ontology ultimately fails to establish moral realism and aspects of his metaethics are better explained by the existence of God rather than his non-existence.

Chapter One presents Erik Wielenberg’s metaethics within the background of the historical progression of moral ontology and contemporary approaches to moral realism. Tracing from ancient foundations of theistic moral realism I show how moral antirealism grew …

Ties That Bind: A Study Of Relational Networks And Spiritual Formation, Joshua Michael Leborious Jun 2025

Ties That Bind: A Study Of Relational Networks And Spiritual Formation, Joshua Michael Leborious

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

In His earthly ministry, Christ tasked the church with the responsibility of making disciples. Today, God calls leaders into professional ministry to discern specific means of doing so. The calling does not make that task easy and the methods for making disciple vary greatly, leaving Christian leaders overwhelmed by trying to figure out how to disciple the people in their care. A mountain of sources suggest that a relational approach has remarkable potential for making disciples. The purpose of this quantitative research study was to explore the potential relationship between relational networks and quantifiable habits of spiritual formation for adult, …

Apologetics Curriculum In A Chinese International School, William Kiel Nation Jun 2025

Apologetics Curriculum In A Chinese International School, William Kiel Nation

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Christian schools face the challenge of engaging students whose biblical views are being secularized by a culture that is individualistic and materialistic. At International Christian School Hong Kong, in response to such secular challenges, the overreliance on classical and evidential apologetics in the Bible curriculum has led to student disengagement, as these methods often fail to address the presuppositions of secular youth. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a presuppositional apologetics curriculum, grounded in Tim Keller’s Making Sense of God, compared to the traditional classical approach grounded in Keller’s The Reason for God, to determine which method better …

Student And Teacher Perspectives On Blending Popular Music Pedagogies Into Kodály-Based Elementary Music Classes, Maurine Floyd Parker Jun 2025

Student And Teacher Perspectives On Blending Popular Music Pedagogies Into Kodály-Based Elementary Music Classes, Maurine Floyd Parker

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Kodály instructors in the United States train music educators to use American folk songs and classical Western European music as a foundation for students’ lessons; however, American music classrooms today look very different from the 1940s Hungarian classrooms when Zoltán Kodály developed his philosophy for teaching music, and there is a current need to include music that reflects the diverse student population within our schools. While Kodály “purists” may be hesitant to add music outside the realm of folk songs and art music, doing so may provide today’s learners the relevancy to stay engaged as valued members of the music …
